Funny that Harbor Freight used to carry Helko hatchets made in Germany. I bought one several years ago but haven't seen them again, I believe they still carry the fireman's axe by Helko, which is between a hand hatchet and a felling axe and has the claw intead of a regular poll. I think I will get one, cut the claw off and polish the poll smooth. It would make a nice camp light axe or heavy hatchet (?) Besides at HFT you can pick the ones that are properly edge-handle aligned. German made!
@chapiit08 I haven't been to HF in a long time. I might do a low cost prepping vid series from there at some point if my Dollar Tree Kit works out (yeah it's ghetto but kinda fun)
The cilinder secondary wedge originated in the USA. Plumb has been using them in their engineers hammers for almost 30 years now. The hatchet looks properly wedged, with the primary wedge being wooden, possibly softer than the handle the way it has to be, and the secondary wedge metal.
@econnofoot I've just never seen the "Ring" style before. I'll need to check into it. . .I'm just overly cautious about something I've never seen before. Not sure if it's a European or Central American (as the axe is a European pattern but made in El Salvador).
@econnofoot I just got the Bushlore Knife and the Golok Machete in yesterday. So far they appear excellent additions to my collection. I'll post some vids in the next few weeks once I've tried them out a bit. I'm very interested in the Sapien (my standard sources don't offer it for sale. . .where did you buy it?) Self Reliance Illustrated and BHK highly recommended the Sapien. I'm also thinking of picking up the Condor 4 inch bushcrafter just to try it out for $21. Thanks for the comment!
I've seen that ring on some Swiss axes can't recall which ones, wait, stop ... impressive box? Really? lol
That looks like a Wetterlings or GB style & with high carbon steel with that efficient hunting axe form, excellent. You won't match the steel or the treatment as they hammer shape the extremely high quality Swiss Axes creating higher density & heat treat the tip just right creating 60 RW or sohardness backed by strength, but it's a great deal for the price. It's an excellent tool.
@tblbaby I can't wait to try it out. I've got a few nearly dead trees behind my backyard fence that need to die a quick death (before they fall on my very expensive fence-line) I'll likely go out and murder some undead-zombie-trees over the next few weekends and decide how much I like my recent axe purchases. At face value it's tremendous for the price. . .battle vs. a local tree will confirm it's worth!!! Wish me luck!!!
@MDPrepper That form with the high quality steel, it will be very nice. Your tree won't stand a chance. Not as great for splitting logs because it's thin, but amazing shape for cutting. They were actually made with processing game in mind, Swiss hunters axe shaped head.
@tblbaby Sorry about teasing about the box, just ribbing. It is something, nice to have a nice shipping container. Sometimes tone doesn't go over well here, so I thought I'd make it clear how I meant that.
I like the look - and price - of these Condor axes. Thanks for the look. I'll have to pick one up!

@TheLateBoyScout The price is unbeatable from what I've seen. It's not quite my Wetterlings (but few axes are) Very usable hatchet for the money

I have the Bushcraft knife and dislike the steel for poor edgeholding capabilities. Use it hard and please give feedback how it turns out

@Rasenkrieger I'll try to give the Hatchet a good workout before the next review. Thanks for the post

I have a 'Ring' retention in a hatchet that so far has been fine, and I've beat the hell out of it...been a first time thing for me as well.

I got one of their Sapien knives(kinda a full tang Mora), I've been pretty happy with, I'm debating trying a hatchet or one of their machetes.

@tblbaby No problem. . .I always appreciate good sarcasm. I consider sarcasm one of the highest art-forms. It's like fencing. . .but with words!
