@manyPixels It's upside down on a cymbal stand, and as he plays that cymbal, that screw holding it in place will slowly unwind. After a while, it'll come right off and the cymbal will fall. People do this kinda crap for looks anyway. Does he REALLY need to suspend the cymbal like that? Will it make him "sound better". No, its just improper use of equipment.
@sithwriter Wow, way to hate. Good job making yourself feel better. But did you ever think it's possible that he did that in order to get the ride lower than the stand would otherwise permit, considering that everything else is mounted low as well? Or did it occur to you that there are a number of different locking nut solutions he might have under there that would not just unwind and fall off? Probably not, sounds like you were to busy being a jealous prick.
@sithwriter i think it's more likely that he's got his SONS ride setup like that, because he is 2, and that bassdrum is 18" diameter.so to set it up normally would probably be to high for a 2 year old to ride on....
@JuniorModerator Hi there. Your comment was posted 3 years ago, so I'm sure you've found your answers, but I'd figure I'd still give a little input. 18" bass drums are smaller bass drums, and therefore will accommodate a higher tuning much better. I would suggest not muffling the drum at all, tuning the batter head about 2 full turns above finger tight, and the resonant head about 3 turns. If you want, you can just go with the flat rock tuning, but that kills the idea of the 18" drum.
@xdrummerx22 My highschool jazz band uses Birch Stage Customs. They're nice drums. We have the smaller sizes (I think like a 8 inch tom). They're fast drums if you put like a pinstripe on them, but at the same time they can be really fuzzy if you put on a coated ambassador. They cut through the ensemble quite well, even though they are puny in size. What size you get totally depends on what your doing with those drums. I don't know about the bigger ones, but the smaller ones are slick. Get em'.
To the SKCProductions, this kit new (before manufacturers put their prices up 15-25%) was £895 with snare, toms, bass, hi-hat stand and Bass Drum. So no, they arent $3000 at all. DW isnt just for the big boys either, its for the musician who wants perfection from their instrument. Fair play to will for buying his son one at the age of 2. I hope hes awesome when hes older!
@willkarling What's so wrong about Mexico huh huh? hehe, just kidding man, mexicans do come with shitty stuff sometimes, but hey, most of that shitty stuff actually comes from China :P So there, I'm from Mexico xD And by the way you must some rich bastard! How the heck can you afford all those drums and cymbals and stands!!! Insane dude, jealous as shit here xD
@nbryc If you say so. The fact that every professional drummer uses their equipment is testament to the sound they offer. I've watched loads of bands over the years moving from tama to pearl etc and they all end up with DW. Quality control doesnt seem to be an issue. especially for the prices they charge?!
@nbryc do you have honest experience with this to support these claims or are you just going on hear-say that you find online in forums? both DW and the American Luddys are outstanding, both tonally and QC. If you get a custom order kit from either company, and it arrives with a chip, mar, crack, or anything that isn't to your liking you can send it back and get another.
@TheSKCProductions I think its safe to say someones a little bit jealous. Whats the matter mommy and daddy wont buy you a custom drum set? awe poor muffin :'(
I like the kit. It's cool. Way to go Will.

So the way you've suspended your ride is purely for looks right? I'll laugh when it falls off.
