  • You meant to play this Adagio Sostenuto. Slow down. Other then that, fantastic.

  • This dude is 7 years old, not tall enough to reach the pedal sitting? Not bad for a 7 year old. I would say the piece is rushed here and there and the triplets are inconsistent rhythmically. The placid nature of the piece is hence degraded.

  • lacks emotion... but good~

  • It isn't a song!!!!! It's a movement!!! argh

  • you go a bit too fast throughout it all...remember its slow and sustained. but a wonderful job none the less.

  • ...seeing as music is a big contest to be better than everone else... *rolls eyes*

  • well..it's not a hard song. Length does not associate with difficulty. To play it correctly? while there is a way to make it sound most beautiful, it's not like any way else is incorrect. One thing i would like to hear is more dynamics. You need to make the difference between soft and loud larger. For me, it almost sounds like its the same forte.

  • ^^ Good job! Just keep working on dynamics and I think you'll do great!

  • Not bad but very notecible errors, your tempo was not consistend at all. This is not a hard song play so keep working on it.

  • Not a hard song? *laughs* The entire song is over 15 minutes long. To play it correctly, yes it is a difficult piece.

  • true this is a long song, but it doesn't get hard until the 3rd movement. A seven year old can play the 1st movement with his eyes close. Keep on working on it thats it.

  • check this guy out, he's crazy:

    http://www.myspace.com/tylerjohnsonpiano

  • That was terrible!!!!!!!!! and wtf was that little pause? you need to buy a better piano too. it also seems that you are still having trouble with this song. and you have no technique, no emotion, and no musicality. also, just before those last 2 notes, you didnt rest enough. very disgusting

  • there will always be the dumbass the bitches about everything

  • Terrible? Right. Shows how much you know about music. It's not the piano; it just needs to be tuned. Like a lot of people, they don't play from the mind / heart; they play from the book. Straight forward and smooth with no "emotion". The song is meant to be much slower as well though 'to each his own'. Instead of being a rude jack ass, maybe you should go do the world a favor and play in traffic.

  • good job....needs more passion...needs to sing more!!! but good...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNAbbLzxJzU

    enjoy the music!!!

  • That is absolutely spectacular. Keep up the practice, you're awesome. :)

  • woohoo i learned to play the beginning of this song because of dis video! ^-^ awesome yesyes!

  • I thought that it was played really good. I don't know if i'll ever be able to play that song, its seems so hard >.<. I just got the music for it and only know the beginnning part of it all. But overall awesome job keep it up !!!

  • good....for a immature.

  • wow... i wish i can play like that cuz man... i suc :D

  • BEAUTIFUL !!!

  • a little too fast, but you've accentuated parts that others where not able to. Flows better unlike others that play in constant staccato.

  • Less mistakes on this one than the others, however this one seems kinda rushed. Really good overall.

  • YOU'RE AWESOME!!! i wish i could play like that, i try :/

  • Beautiful. =)

  • More feeling... Please

  • dude... really, really good.

  • use a little less pedal, because it messes with the song... >< a lot of people overdo it on the pedal--it TOTALLY gets on my nerves. Besides the mistakes, I think you should pour yourself into the song--it's a song that the pianist needs to feel, rather than memorize or play.

  • How about a little more rubato.

  • never got to playing this song before, but its def on my todo list =) come check out some of my piano videos, hope you like them! tell me what you think!

  • ah...thank you so much for posting this! I LOVE the classics *sigh of contentment* Beautiful and inspiring

  • Hmm i played that a while back, makes me want to go record it and post it. I'll let you know if i do it. More feeling though would make it sound so much better. Try speeding up on the last part it makes for a dramatic end ;) but not too loud!

  • CHECK THIS OUT ...

  • a jazzy version of moonlight

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubji1BJiYvw

  • use less pedal, using too much pedal ruins technique

  • are you the same little fucker from the other video I just watched?! you gots some good skillz for a little peckerwood. most adults who mess with the piano can't play as well as you. fucking aye, bra'...

  • dude.. i played this in my first year of my piano studies... which was in third grade.. i had it memorized... besides your butchering it...

its marked piano for a reason, your emphasising the wrong notes... i'll make one for you, you'll see what i mean

anyway, negative stuff aside. it takes alot to be able to play something well enough and to post it on the internet so props. i'll be back with a link to mine own soon

  • how did u learn to play so good lol im self tought

  • Shit hot, sounds so much better on piano than guitar.

  • tengo los pelos de punta! esta melodía es genial! propia de un genio!

  • You play nice but you should put a bit more feeling into it, you know ... being sad at the moment you play this will help a lot. ^_^

I played it, too so I know ... I play the piano for 6 years now. What about you?

  • Wrists again :) that way you don't look "lazy" as some pianists may call it, but once you get into the SPEEDY saj;flasklfj fast, it saves your stamina in your wrists and forearms. Good clean pedal changes are key too with the smooth phrase transitions :)

  • POST 2: Therefore, I say go forth, Joey Lieber, and do likewise. But, you push your talent like an ego-trip and i drop you like a hot potato.

    love you ... more

  • Thank you for sharing your process of creating harmony and unseen images. It is nice to see your work vary over time and you are prolific. My first video of yours which I saved as a Favorite was "Blue Bossa." Your passion shows. Bless you on this wonderful journey of performance.

    Frank

  • nice play

  • It is the performer's responsibility to make a piece sound as the composer intended or else to write his or her own composition. An artist learns how to recognize the ways in which the composer indicates what the sound of a composition is.

    --Dan Haerle

  • good job.

what bothers me though, is not that you missed the notes, but the quality of your touch. this piece is deceptively easy because of its "simple notes" but is definitely for more or less advanced player because of the touch/tone. you play it too much like a dry czerny exercise. =( ask any qualified pianist

practice more with baroque and classical. then come to romantic (though beethoven is in the middle) since romantic pieces are more complex in aspects like harmony and tone

  • Wow, you are good. Yet another good performance

  • My favorite piano piece. I shall go play it now.

  • Moonlight Sonata the best classical piece ever written im a piano player but i dont read music i play by ear and i took me nearly to years to learn Moonlight Sonata....Kid you are great!

  • i think..it doesnt really matter if yu screw up =] ... as long as yu play wif passion.. play wif yur soul

    <3 lucy

andd yea i do play piano and i haf played this piece.. its harder to play than it looks

  • Classical music rules the soul of human beings.

  • Nice

  • Nice. Thanks for sharing. Please share more.

  • dats preety amazzinnn, lol u memorisedd it aswelll i think cause u neva turnd the page :) lol

  • How can download this video?

  • pretty sweet

  • kickz azz

  • It's really not ALL me, the piano sucks lol but yea this 1 is pretty terriable, you should watch my other 1 ...

  • it was good but play it slower with more expression

  • One thing I would say is: Do not speed up near the ending. Make sure your fingers aren't slipping or tripping with eachother. And watch the tempo markings and pedal. Don't also forget about the dynamics. Try to fix some more problems.

    Alex

    - 13 year old pianist.

  • wow! i love the sound! great job :D

  • it's sad to hear something awful like this

  • hehe ive always loved the moonlight sonata... it makes me sad for some reason hahah but its cool =)

  • you're only critisizing.....don't forget he's a child and he still got many time in his life to pracitse

  • how many pianists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

    at least 6

1 to screw in the light bulb while the other 5 sit around and say: Shit! Man I can do THAT!!

ha ha ha! y'all chill out!

  • BRING OUT THE MELODY!

  • i wouldnt do that if I were you. READ THE SHEETS. READ THEM CLOSELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well...i got my grade 8 in 1999...and quit playin after tat...u made me wanna play again...at least for this song... :)

  • THE MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT FEELING.... THE QUESTION IS WHERE THE ''FUCKING FEELING'' IS... TUT TUT TUT

  • THAT IS REALLY BULLSHIT I AM SELF TAUGHT AS WELL BUT I HAVE FEELING PLAYING IT... IF PIANO IS YOUR LIFE AND YOUR SELF TAUGHT AT LEAST YOU MUST ''LEARN THE BASIC TECHNIQUES'' IT IS SUCH AN EASY PIECE DONT BE SO FUSSY ABOUT IT

  • Heyy, if your as good a musician as you say you are at least be as decent as to help other musicians. Not put them down. Each musican plays a song the way THEY like it. Its not especially played for you.

  • What are you talking about I didnt even say anything to you........?!

  • hihihi i am self taught as well and just stidied the piece for 2 weeks i challenged you because i can do better than that YOU ARE RUBBISH THAT IS

  • that's so cool. I'm so jealous. I can't play anthing.

  • a great choice of song!

  • That was great :D Memorizing the whole thing must've taken you ages! I try memorizing... but I can only do short ones :P And I have no idea how to read sheet music :P Anyways! I really love this song, and I'm really glad you put the video up :)

  • jesus, iv only jus read some of these comments .. why the hell are there so many wankers commenting bull shit to this kid, honestly if you dont like it fuck off becuase you dont deserve to watch it.. this kids had over 40000 veiws.. hmm let me think , not half of you wank stupid faggots have any! so get a life and fuck off!

  • Chopin is clearly not Classical. And, actually, it's not "amature" OR "amatuer." It's AMATEUR. Just thought I'd get that out of the way.

But, I actually really didn't think it was bad at all. There were just a couple flubs, but who cares? We all make them.

And to whoever said it should be played only on a Yamaha:

Yamaha's are really loud. It sounds really good on a Mason & Hamlin. They have extremely good pianos.

  • -i think it's cool that you posted this even tho you were aware you made mistakes, and for just having learned it, it's not so bad... and who cares if it's amateur, at least you're doing something constructive with your time... so it's all good in my book...

  • P.s. what did you mena you better watch movies like this? That link goes to someone who is not even playing the piano, if you know piano soo well you can see that his fingers are not even pressing keys, and his hands are supposed to be moving up and down the piano, they werent when the second guy came to sit down....

  • What is with you people!? Moonlight Sonata and Für Elise are not the only songs I learned, there the only ones up here! so ppl stop judging...Im playing many other songs from Beethoven and Mozart and New songs that are out today, and ones I like..Sp people don't say things you DONT know!

  • but this vid has nothing to do with Mozart or Chopin, they are not related at all--that's all he was saying.

If you really want to play music for a living, you're going to have to be a little more thick skinned. People will always criticize you--don't give them the satisfaction of knowing they have upset you. Kill 'em with kindness.

  • thanks for the advice [=

  • Stfu noob, it's amature* by the way, and because they are RELATED tags ... Beethoven made Moonlight Sonata and so did he composed Für Elise, so there for its RELATED, and Chopin and Mozart are also one of the most famous composers of Beethoven's time, So just shut up..

  • YOU PLAY SO WELL! We loved your Fur Elise bit just as much too!

  • You sonuds so nice.. I really admire your songs..

  • nice attempt. sounds good

  • why does everybody only play the first movement of the moonlight sonata??

  • You should not be using the pedal for this song at all. Your timing was pretty good for someone trying to recall by heart.

  • but try some much more faster songs as well!

thats what i loved playing the piano =)

  • hahah, very good man, as some said, your tempo aint correct some times, but its good at all.

i also learned the moonlight sonata when i was 14 years old. but after that i stopped playing piano. however, good job dude! i know that its hard ;-)

  • Wow you make me jealous and want to pick up on my lessons again.

  • you played it really good. but yea like some said. work on your tempo and make it more like...eerie. but you did good. i started learning it but never really got around to finish it. good job!

  • damn, you suck ass. how did you manage to pull over 30 000 views?

  • u are banging on the piano.... play it more softly and slower will be nice :) and no stopping!!! lols practice more ^^ i practice 4 hours a day x.x

  • You could try to hold the top notes (melody) while playing the lower notes in the right hand.

It sounds better and you can switch the pedal without losing the melody what often happened.

  • Comment part 2: XD I know, a very old saying. Ok gj though. I wouldn't do the other movements if I were you... LOL I'm just kidding, obviously not. I don't think I could even O_O.

  • Comment part 1)I know the people that actually know what they are talking about already said this, but, your tempo is really fast. It should be going so0o0ooo much slower. Do you have a piano teacher? I don't think this video would make her too happy. You need to bring out the melodic notes; stop banging out the rest. I think it would help you a lot if you slowed it down. That's like hitting 2 birds with one stone.

  • a couple of things you need to watch for;

    -your tempi,

-pedaling, (it sometimes smudges the chords together)

you want it to sound romantic and mushy, yet it should still have a clear and crisp sound.

-also, the una corda pedal. i believe it is written you "una corda" on the score, but i can't remember. When I play it, i use the far left pedal for most of the double pianos.

-don't thump it! be nice an gentle.

-big improvement from your fuer elise ;)

    Anyway! this is great!

  • awesome

  • Very beautiful. :D ^-^

  • I think ill go find the sheet music for that now lol.

  • this is such a long song!

  • Still LOVE IT!!!!!!!!1

  • Not bad.. I also played this piece, just a tip, watch your tempo!

  • natural talent there...you need to slow the piece down a bit...it sounds a bit rushed and panic that's why you stalled a bit sometimes...but with a bit more practise it would sound great...keep working at it! ;)

  • wow.....

    just....wow

    amazing

  • i love that song....

  • needs better sound quality, well done

  • o how many keys dus that have? or how many keys would u need? could u do itwith a 61?or u need a 76 or an 88?

  • im teaching myself this song on guitar but nothing beats the piano at this song of course how long did it take u to learn this song?....once again this song...not how many years have u bn playing...this song how long?

  • i played this last year! itsnt it pretty? one of my favorite songs to play. i still play it every so often. nice job for someone who has very little time on his hands :]

  • Nice work, and good played, but now you must work to move the listeners heart.

    Keep on working :)

    xXx

  • dude... fuck all these people. GREAT JOB MAN!

  • that's pretty good......now work on "fantasie impromtu"

  • This is very good. Better than your Fur Elise, I'd say. But on the scale parts that have the constant low G octave chord in the left hand, be sure not to lose the tempo. This may be because of just recent memorization, but that's just my tip. Watch pedal slurring, and try and work some softs into it, it was altogether very loud, a completely opposite feel for the piece. Again, it was good. Keep working.

  • This song is mainly soft. I heard no dynamics throughout that whole playback. You played the notes well, but there was no feeling in it.

  • Gawd, I'm soo sick of this song, along with 'Heart & Soul' 'Fur Elise' 'Cannon in D' or varations of the like unless by G. Winston. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE plays these songs as if they were the only songs written for piano! Mix it up people!

  • I dont know to much about music but that sounds awesome to me. keep it up buddy Beethoven is the best composer of all time

  • Excellent. Only thing I wanna pick about is at the beginning you're too loud, and you're playing the song too fast. Good though :D

  • Anyway, I thought you did a pretty good job. I'm not a perfect piano player myself but I am learning that piece as well. I'd say what you need to work on especially are the dynamics and try to go a little slower and more dramatic. This is Beethoven here and the Moonlight Movements are pretty sad. But otherwise I enjoyed it!

  • Wow...I read most of the comments here but it was too depressing to read all of them. Jeez people it's called *constructive* criticism not stomp on you and crap all over the place.

  • Thank you [= I totally agree, just say it's good or bad...and give me hints to what wouold make it better, well anyway tomorrow im going to recoede it again on a grand piano in my high school, hope you watch it! [=

  • Now now, you totally bashed someone elses performance of the Moonlight and, as I recall, told them to take it off YouTube.

  • your right hand is too noisy. i would like to hear you play the 3rd movement of this sonata.

  • wow ok you guys play to much sinister music comming this month ethicks is gonna rock it with happy

  • Very nice, keep up the good work.

  • good job.

i can play that song too.

    have you been playing long?

ive been playing for 9 years March 21.

just a bit more practice and you'll have it down perfectly.

  • In response:

     Not entirely true...

Chopin had a massive handspan; many of his difficult pieces were not commonly attempted for quite some time, given that they were deemed impossible without his hand size. His fingers were thin, and very long, especially his pinky. His hand cast remains intact.

  • I responded before I saw your post.

But thank you for reinforcing what I said... and I'll say again that the kid's hands are too stumpy for piano. Better to be honest than to lead him on a delusional path. haha

  • Good God! Could the book be wrong?! The cast is normal, his hand is normal, his handspan was normal... 9ths thats on a c major scale - c-d-e-f-g-a-b-c-d... whats so extraordinary about that?

  • play a little slower...otherthan that it was perfect..make it seem more dramatic

  • I'll give you 5 stars...I'm so jealous

  • REMEMBER: "1-2-3. 1-2-3, 1-2-3" TRIP-oh-let, TRIP-oh-let, TRIP-oh-let. Just don't let that "TRIP" get to heavy...then it sounds all... chromatic.

  • Good thinking! I like this guy.

  • i'd like to hear all you smart alix's play if you think he's so bad!

  • I found the preformance very good sence it was all from memory. I play the piano as well, I hear my friend's dad play that, and he's a music teacher and he plays with more mistakes than you sometimes. Keep up the good work and nice job!

  • your hands are also kind of stumpy for piano playing

  • Contrary to popular belief, "long fingers" aren't ideal for piano playing. Chopin had some of the smallest hands in piano and look at what he did. He played with his hands facing slightly inward. So, "short stumpy hands" are better than "long piano fingers."

  • You obviously do not know what you are talking about.....which is ironic being that your logon is "thepianist".... Chopin had very long fingers. The cast they made of his hand was very slender and LONG, especially his pinkie. In fact, many pianists find his pieces to be particularly difficult because of the range of the notes. Rachmaninoff had even bigger hands but played/wrote some of the most beautiful music. You are quite pretentious.... get your facts straight.

  • Now now friend...would you like me to get the ISBN number for the book that it comes from? My facts are quite straight, Chopin was envious of other pianists in his school because they could hit 9ths like octaves. He could only comfortably hit 8ths like octaves. I've seen a picture of the cast, and his pinky is not abnormally long.

  • As far as Rachmaninoff, his hands were probably the biggest in piano. Rachmaninoff, Liszt and Debussy all had very large hands. Rachmaninoff played 12ths. Thats half an inch larger than a piece of paper, long ways. Now, friend. Learn YOUR facts ;-)

  • Apparently you don't know how to read as well. I said Chopin had LONG FINGERS, which is a fact. I also said that Rachmaninoff had big hands, so how is that contrary to what you just said?

  • I agree with stuffed.

  • Hmm, this was pretty good, just some wrong notes here and there. It was alittle "Choppy" on some parts. There were alor of wrong finger numbers wrong towards the end. Though, over all, it was nice. Keep up the good work!

  • its prety good, but next time finetune before u do something like this.

  • I think it was played very well especially because I've listened to the real piece about a million times and because I can not play that for my life!

  • oh.. well now that i read your intro I understand, that was all from memory? nice job.

  • 1 - no feeling off major notes 2 - key presses need to be harder emotional notes 3 - garbled area where music does not match origonal 4 - timing goes WAY off and a huge pause is heard where it shouldnt be 5 - timing stretches out and a mistaken note is heard (one fourth of way through) 6 - mistakes , mistakes , mistakes, where is your ear?? 7 - sounds like a zombie is playing this part, more mistakes, that note does not belong there man 8 - did you get lost there? another mistake! 9 - timing!!

  • This one is on point, and has feeling to it.. compared to this one.. so compare and then talk ur shit people..http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZSY4vKo7x30

  • this is my favorite song by beethoven

  • awesome though the original is better

  • It really does lack expression. It's as if someone put it on a music editor and put it on play. We can't hear any of beethoven's thoughtfulness.. there's no contrast in between the climax and the beginning. I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old, and this song is pretty basic. I think you should appreciate the comments that you are receiving and make them constructive. Just put more feeling.

  • loulunis... if ur gonna say sumtin mean den dont say it at all... and dont tell me dat he started it cuz ur da one hoo da made the rude comment first... and i dont care wat u say back cuz i dont even care wat u think lol and hey please forget about everyone on this page because trust me... we've already forgotten about you..

  • nice...

  • cont'd Once again, to the general public, this is an overplayed song, but I play it b/c I have not been satisfied with recordings I've heard...so I interpret the song for myself, and emotionally, this is not a simple piece. Play long enough and you'll understand. =)

  • (cont'd)...you might think it's hard, but soon, you'll know when to do it second-hand, and you won't have to think about it. just trying to give you productive criticism, no hard feelings, but the fact that you know these songs by memory now, I think you really should take the time to master them =)I've also had this piece with me for about 3 years, I still play it almost daily.

  • once again, good try, it's good you have it memorized and everything, but for the parts where u mess up, do go back to the sheet music, read, and make you u hammer it down (no pun intended), also, I think you need to work on your dynamics (and technique of course); lift your fingers/wrists on transitions or in legatos

  • You totally butchered the song. Playing the piano piece is not only about hitting the right notes, but how much feeling you put into the performance, particularly with a song like Moonlight Sonata. Your tempo is off as well. You are also playing it much MUCH too fast. I played the piano for 16 years and I still occassionally play this piece when I have time.

  • what do you mean you didnt have a lot of time to practice, it was your video its not like you had to hurry for a concert or anything, you should of waited until you had it perfect to show someone

but thats just my take on you saying you didnt have enough time

  • great!

  • its good....you can play it better than me o.O lol great job

  • One word to describe this song; haunting. You captured that perfectly! I've tried to play this many a time and have settled with repeating a variation of the first minute of the song (because my fingers are crap). You should be proud of yourself.

  • i disagree.. it;s a little too cheerful. the hauntingnesss and pensiveness is NOT there...

  • Nice job! I'd LOVE to learn this piece.

  • you're good...I'd like to give u a few tips and if it doesnt work dont kill me,tip #1: RELAX! and then play with feeling,Tip#2: dont make ur wrist so tight. after u play 4 a while it feels cramped,tip#3: play from ur knuckles, once u play more complicated peices u'll understand why...uh..anyways good job!

  • .......................

  • I just love listening to Beethoven! Thanks for recording this video!

  • I love this song and you are really great i used to play back in the days and i quit but now watching this i regret it so much.Im learning this .even if it takes me all year . keep up with it .

  • I viewed this earlier.. and came back to try to play it. I can play easier by ear and like memorizing.. I was able to watch the keys you were playing and play the song never having learned it before .. it's a bit time-consuming but it makes me want to go out and get the music now. Awesome dude!!

  • I've read through every single comment (very depressing). I didn't think one constructive criticism would lead to such an intense, vulgar, and waste of time argument. I'm only a beginner (I'll problably get scorn if that college student was here ^_^) and all I have to say is take the criticism and make something out of it. If it is right then why getting upset? If it is wrong then ignore it. Don't let something like this stop you.
