That price was a total shocker. I don't understand the retail space cost due to the fact that walmarts had complete aisles for cars when the new movie came out.
I love that perspective my man... Cars don't roll very well in the package, take them out and play with them! I do think "Cars" movie toys are going to be worth a mint in 20 years though! I miss collecting these, when my kids were smaller we had "Cars everywhere!
For that price, it would've been nice if they had included a vehicle, but it still looks like a great set that's worth the price. Lots of fun for play and display. Even better, it doesn't look like there's much (if anything) that will get lost easily!
Along with the classic Hot Wheels Sto N Go sets, I'm also reminded of the Micro Machines Super City Toolbox playset from the 90s (mostly because the toolbox was also red).
@FadeToBlack982 You should have been with me when I was with my son as I bought it. I was ranting and raving about the cost. And you don't even get a car! I don't believe I have any of the Galoob Micro Machine stuff but I do have the Hot Wheels versions... I just woke up so I can't remember the name LOL!
@DaddyIvo I haven't seen CARS 2 yet. I will be getting the DVD so that I can know what I'm talking about when I do CARS 2 videos LOL! Is Radiator Springs in the sequel?
Well I'll be. That set looks like so much fun! Looks like it was inspired by those old late '70s, early '80s unfoldable Hot Wheels city playsets that now sell for over $100 on eBay. Looks like a lot of fun, and even looks somewhat like a realistic type of city set while still maintaining the "stunt set" feel. What a great design! And then you had to ruin my fantasy by telling us the price tag! :) That's pretty pricey, but I guess worth the investment. Been a while since I've seen a toy that nice
@giggleblaggle Yes, correct. I was at a seminar at the 2010 HW Convention where Mattel was talking about up and coming products. They asked those in attendance if they thought that Hot Wheels could make Stow 'n Go's again. There was some interest until I asked what would be the retail cost. They stated that because of the size and the amount of shelf space that the originals would require would necessitate a $50 price point. I told them that they were dead in the water....
@giggleblaggle Mattel may have a vocal handful of people who want Stow 'n Go's to return but in my opinion, a $50 Hot Wheels theme would not be successful. Collectors like to buy $1 to $5 cars, not $50 playsets. That's when they told me that the PIxar group was going to be making this product. Now, THAT could be successful because of the targeted age group.
@heathkinn Yes, this playset is definitely cute. I wonder if it is too expensive to be a give item and whether or not relatives will know to buy it for their little ones?
Thank you for this review. I love toys so much.
