  • I didn't see this video as the answer to all economic challenges we face today. Instead, i saw environmental responsibility, economic sustainability, and an added choice of transportation for Americans. It is a matter of having lots of choices designing our urban spaces that work well along the street and next to a variety of land uses. To simply say one thing comes before the other is totally missing the boat about the complexity that a street car brings to human settlements.

  • Keep in mind two things made the Portland Streetcar development a success: 1, Fast modular construction. 2, The cars were made in the Czech Republic, sidestepping huge union-bloat.

    Detroit hasn't been known for avoiding union bloat. Quite the contrary!

  • So a rail system is all an economy needs to prosper? That is ridiculous! What a city needs to attract business and grow is to create a positive business climate that encourages entrepreneurship. Once the economy grows a rail system would grow, but it is a later step, not a first step.
