As much as I love the original, I have to say this is very, very good too. And unique in its own way. It takes the original score and "runs" off into imaginary realms with that idea, building upon it in its own way.
My own mind works on both tunes and ideas in somewhat this same way...building...tearing down...and then trying again to build on them over-and-over. Whether for good or bad...or if simply a waste of time and thought...well.... Who really knows?
Great photos, but...the performance can't hold a candle to Guaraldi's original, or even "Sounds Orchestral" (from the 60's). This is Muzak; the original is jazz. Oh well - I have the original recording, and I can recall your photos while listening. Nice job, but...
c'est un peu trop long, il y a bien deux minutes de bouillie, on sent qu'il faut ramer longtemps pour retrouver le motif mélodique. Ennuyeux au bout du compte.
First fell deeply in love with this piece when living in stockbridge Mass. On a job radio -fell into a freaking trance. Went out at lunch, ordered the sheet music and learned it that week.
A month of weeks, a year of days, octobers turning into mays, i set my sail when the tide comes in, and i just cast my fate to the wind... The lyrics were just as much genius , and the pics do it for me
When I was a kid my Aunt had a 45 rpm of this song but with lyrics - Mel Torme, I think. (I set my sail when the tide comes in, and I cast my fate to the wind..) I would love to hear it again, even though the instrumental is actually better.
whoever is playing this stinks compared to Vince. Google 'Saber Point the death of Vince Guaraldi' and find the blogspot where a very recent article and intimate photo re: Vince was just published
Such a wonderful song! I remember it so well from when I was a kid! Just recently found an original 45 rpm from when it first came out in my parents collection. What memories! People should get passed the fact that Vince Guaraldi did the peanuts theme and acknowledge his other work. This song always captured such emotion! Excellent!
Lol I got this song from UD's definition bitchslap..xD
Someone bitchslap the TV producer that keeps putting Vince Guaraldi's "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" on as background music for the weather reports on Hurricane Frances in Florida!
Loved the pictures, and song. Reminded me of the upstate NY area where I grew up, but would guess that the pics are from the Michigan area. What is the verdict?

Oh my, no offence, but this is so ham-fisted it's like fingrnails down a blackboard compared to Vince Guaraldi's version. The timing is just so brutal...don't bother recording this, it's perfection itself from the composer.

I absolutely guarantee that Guaraldi is spinning in his grave. This guy sucks soooo bad and Vince was a true genius. Listening to this crap is like being stuck, stoned at a stop sign too paranoid to go. Listen you idiot Winston sheep! Go get some REAL Guaraldi and maybe you can learn the difference between a hack and a master pianist finally.
Superb playing by George Winston but nobody and no substitute can take the place of the real thing. Why did THEY take away CYFTTW by VG? Say it ain't so!!!
Im unfamiliar with this piece until a friend from Arizona introduced this to me. Fortunately i liked it. Food for my soul and spirit... i love the wonderful views too coz i love nature...from Philippines with love.
i agree totally. rap music itself dosent have to be that way, but big money and a constant demand for it (whether natural demand or a controlled one) keep the negativity and soul destruction pumping out into the world as fast as it can be made. at least we have songs like this to uplift us..
@ludwig222 Because garbage to the ears sells.. These cretins wouldn't know good music it farted in their faces..These days, it's music for nosepickers.. It's not music-it's noise..!
This song was used as the opening theme for a late night show on TV in the early 1960's I remember the guy who hosted the show really liked the song, he got a lot of requests for the show band to play it so one night it was played in it's entirety by the band. The guys show got canceled as I remember, he liked to wear boots with his suits, it was a no no then, he wouldn't take them off so his show got canceled. Anyone remember that far back? What was the show?
I would like to see what you could put together for Billy Joel's "Mexican Connection", that always reminded me of CYFTTW, and was for many years the song that dimmed the lights before his show kicked off with "Angry Young Man" - what a contrast, and aah, the memories!
Your well-composed landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, and still-lifes certainly complement George Winston's multi-layered stretch rendition of one of my favorite instrumentals, making my first hearing of it right here on YouTube even more memorable, as your visual images do his audio justice and then some.
I feel East Coast on this video. Am I right? That is where I grew up and the tidal waters take me back, the low light makes me feel home. What a wonderful land the USA is. 50 States, 50 Countries if compared to Europe.
Actually I think this beautiful instrumental composition was performed by Sounds Orchestral which was the better version from 1965 or 66. This version does not quite have it.

Why can't the radio stations promote stuff like this now days ?
This music heals your sole and sprit. Makes you want to live. Not like Rap that destroys your sprit and leaves a negative out come.
It's no wonder that's kids now days have such a crappy out look on life.
