  • in israel, shnitzel is very common dish because a lot of jews come from ashkenazi background (germany, austria, eastern europe) but as jews don't eat pork, it is made with chicken.

    but i think the original recipe is with pork or veal.

Most Schnitzel in America, even the german recipes , used is mostly from Boston Butt Roast , sliced thinned and pounded out then breaded with either Bread crumbs or Corn Flake Crumbs, such as Kellog's Corn Flake Crumbs .

    Or one can finely crush Corn Flakes and mix with Panko Bread crumbs and never deep fry , but flat top grille or skillet grille in a little butter flavored oil.

  • I usually make beef schnitzel. I've seen a few people on you tube already make schnitzel this way but i do it the traditional Italian way. Beat enough Egg to put into a bowl. Put all the schnitzels inside the egg. let them soak, then 1 by 1 bread crumb them.

  • Originally veal is used for Schnitzel and you cooked it wrong. You want to cook it golden and there should be air between the meat and the crust after you cooked it. Also you use roll crumbs not bread crumbs. And cooking the Schnitzel very slowly is actually a tipp for people who always burn it. (You cook/fry it pretty fast actually)

    PS: (You can cook mushrooms like that just put them in a bags with flour than with eggs and than with the crums than cook them in a pan with hot oil)

    Veal is the traditional Wiener Schnitzel ingredient, but nowadays Chicken is much cheaper, and considered healthier :D

  • i don't mean to be rude, but you made so many things wrong... the meat was a bit too thick, the oil wasn't hot enough (this will cause the crumbs to soak up the oil and drastically reduce the crispiness) and you don't usually add any herbs to the crumbs, although that's just personal preferance, really.

  • In the US we don't call it Schnitzel that intrests me. Looks similar to what I would do for Chicken Parmesean. So Schnitzel mean flatten? Thanks for the lesson Nicko. I am reading it's usually made of veal Schnitzel. Which I would not eat I don't do veal but with chicken it would be quite lovely like many a thing I make.

    Have you considered subtitles? On this video, subtitles could have included: keep the bag open, use "deflecting" blows, 6 minutes, low and slow cooking.
