I hate when I label music . I don't wear a cowboy hat but listen to country. I am going to listen to this and love it ,but don't expect to see me in church
this piece is, to me, completely transcendant... I so enjoy when someone can take sacred, lofty, spiritual, medeval piece, and mesh it seamlessly with modern, fresh, sexy rhythms and arrangements. A salve to my ears, Mr. Schwartz!
The ecstasies of the Catholic religious experience and the sensual experience overlap in this piece so well. It's all the same neurons in us all, and the ears play a part. Can't get enough of Mr. Schwartz.
I so agree RickWolff. Anytime an artist can effectively mesh century old religious pieces with modern time rhythms, bringing it up to date and drawing young people to want to listen and experience music that has been long lost...he is amazing.
maurocarleti: As a big fan of Paul Schwartz, the Aria series, and State of Grace, I was a little surprised to hear the music used for the upcoming film "Married Life" (written by Dickon Hinchliff. I stumbled upon the trailer on YouTube by accident... Is it me, or are there a few similarities between Agnus Dei and the film's theme? Check out the film's website and see what you think. I'm not a musician, but my ears sense some likenesses between the two...
