How can Steve Howe not be on the December 2010 Rolling Stone guitarists list? The fantastic interplay on the intro here shows his group skills, then the solo at 5:42, the building chorus at 6:20 into the bridge and then the liquid solo at 6:50 is phenomenal, then another killer at 7:35. And the SAME guy did the crazed genre-busting mashup on "Sound Chaser"! Winning guitar polls throughout the 70s and now forgotten by the mainstream and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?! It's insane.
I still have my vinyl YesSongs. It is worn almost completely. What this music does for the soul is amazing. I've just re-discovered them after almost 35 years... but when I hear it now, it uplifts me greatly. And Chris Squire was the reason I used flat strings on my bass back then, to try and get his sound and later Geddy Lee's sound from Rush.
@RichaEcke2 1966??? Do you mean 1976? Yes didn't form into a band until late 68/early 69. Their first album came out in the summer of 1969. Just a friendly correction.
@combatjm89 Apart from being great musicians & being able to work perfectly together, the music of Yes has spiritual overtones and certainly does feed the soul. I've never been to a Yes concert but have spent many hours listening to their records on and off since the early seventies. Still has the same effect on me now. It's soul food! Thank God for these talented people!
@youboobtube100 yeah, roundwound strings - see, it's been so long I can't remember the difference! Now I remember - my first bass had flats, and it was real easy on the fingers. Then I got a Rickenbacker copy and used rounds - built up calluses real quick! Listening to Yes again made me buy a bass on eBay this week. Now to remember how to play!
@SteveHoweJeffBerlin I know, I was corrected above. It's been 25 years since I played bass, ya gotta cut me a little slack...lol. Just picked up a new bass with ROUND strings - it was actually the last bass I played - a Vantage - which I understand is one of the better Japanese basses. I would agree so far! It's almost orgasmic to play, or is it 'cause I missed it so?
I disliked this only because I am an attention whore. I'm 32 years old and heard this song for the first time today on my way home from work... "silly, silly human race" really caught my attention. Am sampling that and the sweet bass licks forthwith.
@TouchingYou I never did like Wakeman`s organ sound with Yes. It sounded like jelly thrown at jelly compared with the behemoth that was Tony Kaye`s hammond sound. Still, wakeman did add a touch of moog and mellotron to the song, so, I almost forgive his jelly on jelly organ.
Thank you. You really have to have to luv YES to be a true fan. I luv YES since they were a band. Thank u so much 4 all the YESSONGS luv it. Yours is no disgrace : ) !
Steve is a beast! And Chris!. And Alan!. And Rick!.

I totally agree with you!
But the point is: what is there today?
How old are those who voted?
It's a shame!
People have forgotten what great music even sounds like!

@combatjm89 Me too man. I played a lot of Yes back in 1966, and have had to tell my self to just be quiet, and enjoy the love of music I found.

Are you sure Chris uses flatwounds? I would think he uses Round Wounds, . . they
are the brightest strings. Definitely not flatwound on this song.

did the vinyl sound this bad? Listen to when Wakeman's ORGAN kicks in as they start the riff of YINDisgrace. Shockingly weak.
And for those of you who don't know, this song is about the Iraq War of that era: VIETNAM.

What guitarist today can play like this . . just guitar, no distortion, . . and pull off these fking licks ?
There are no effects on this guitar (except a little reverb blah blah).
The whole band sounds "raw" too.
