It very much disturbs and disappoints me when people say her voice was ruined, gone,destroyed etc...it's undeniable that her voice had changed, but it was still extremely powerful.Even her vocal coach of 5 yrs or so said out was at about 80% of what it once was.Thats not ruined, and if you listen to Celine Dion/Mariah Carey,they certainly don't sound as they did 20yrs ago.People were just cruel to Whitney due to the drugs when more compassion was needed.That pressure was debilitating,I'm sure.

@SpeedySpod I think she sounds great here, too! I think ppl want "big stars" to keep their voices so that we can enjoy their music for a longer period of time. It's not that she didn't keep her voice, it was just evident (not really in this performance) that Whitney lost a lot of her upper range b/c of drug abuse. Other stars, after YEARS of performing still have most of their voice range, so that's what we "expect". Aretha, Gladys, Patti and Natalie Cole are perfect examples.

If she had had more time to spend on her rehab and to get completely clean and to somehow regain her pure voice that she used to have, then it would have been her utmost victory over her battle with her problems. Thus I'm sorry that nobody including Clive Davis could persuade her to do so

@TJCollins21 I completely agree with you. I don't mind at all that Whitney had 'lost' her voice, what-ever that means. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I actually like particular this song which is full of powerful messages and she sings it marvellously here. A woman who refinds her inner connection with her soul and gains new strength in life after a lot of self-sacrifice. @SpeedySpod I think she sounds great here, too! I think ppl want "big stars" to keep their voices so that we can enjoy their music for a longer period of time. It's not that she didn't keep her voice, it was just evident (not really in this performance) that Whitney lost a lot of her upper range b/c of drug abuse. Other stars, after YEARS of performing still have most of their voice range, so that's what we "expect". Aretha, Gladys, Patti and Natalie Cole are perfect examples.
