I totally agree, but there are other HBCUs that embrace this style and other styles of classical music. I am a choir member at Alabama A&M University under the direction of Dr. Horace Carney. We do a composition of "Magnificat" every year for our Annual Christmas Musicale. My freshman year we did the one by Bach and this past year the one by Rutter. There are other HBCU choirs that are diverse and we are one of them, but I agree that it's so rare to see choirs performing music out of the norm.
Talk about a rarity. Not to many HBCUs are taking the motets and running with this as JCSU. And I'm a Morgan choir alum. And I've NEVER seen any other choir embrace the Baroque idiom it all, if not most of it's elements at JCSU has (and I'm talking beyond Handel). This is wonderful. If they do Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (by J.S. Bach and w/o orchestra) look out.
