  • So thrilled to see Irv on You Tube. I watched him faithfully in Jamestpwn NY until I moved to NC. When I met someone from Buffalo in NC, the first thing I asked was if Irv was still on TV. They don't make newmen like that anymore. Thanks to WKBW for giving us Irv.

  • I was a little kid when he was on the air in the early 1960's. I grew up watching Irv. The quality of the program changed over the years. They used to use really tacky lead ins to their news stories. I remember one written lead in said ROAST BEEF. The story that followed was about a herd of dairy cattle that were lost during a barn fire in the Buffalo area. There were many other news stories that were similar. Irv always referred to firemen as SMOKE EATERS OR BLAZE BUSTERS.

  • I Love you, Irv! I grew up watching you & your wonderful colleagues on Channel 7 Eyewitness News. You are a wonderful and talented human being. Thank you for being YOU! I hope you are enjoying life as much as we, the viewers, enjoyed having you in our lives.

  • I remember watching this live. When Irv almost broke down at the end, even I got choked up. Then, a few days later in The Buffalo News, Jeff Simon bashed Irv's farewell speech, stating that it had no reason to be so overly emotional. Jeff Simon has always been a pompus fool. Many people were saddened by Irv's retirement. When Jeff Simon eventually retires from The Buffalo News, it'll be more like "Good-bye and good riddance!"

  • Grew up watching WKBW news in Toronto because as I told my dad, "American news was interesting...with all the fires..." and Irv Weinstein, Rick Azar, Rocketship7 were pillars of my childhood. Seeing that consummate pro of newscaster and high quality human being finally give in to a little emotion was something else. Best of health and luck to you Irv.

  • irv Weinstein, you're really a pro! You've got all the news that we wanna know!

You tell it like it is and never throw us a curve!

    Nobody says it like Irv!

    Eyewitness News! Yes Sir!

  • I am from Jamestown and seeing Commander Tom and rocket ship 7 how about Wonderrama.

  • I met both Irv Weinstein and Tom Jones. They are the most down to earth God and family loving human being media persons I have ever known. Although neither ever forced their political and religious beliefs upon anyone they remained privately and personally dedicted to their family and their beliefs. God bless Irv,Tom,and also Rick.

  • Beautiful...

  • Growing up in Bradford we got all the Buffalo stations and loved Irv doing the news and Tom Jolls on weather, plus Loved watching him on Rocketship 7 as a kid. Great memories

  • @macdaddybill Do you remember Cmdr. Tom?

  • @johnny10301968 Do dogs have fleas? He was Promo the Robots best buddy. We always thought that "Box" in Logan's Run was Promo.

  • @skippbitman I used to watch Rocketship 7 too.

  • @johnny10301968 Of course i do, watched rocketship 7 in the morning and saw him in the afternoon after school. I am pretty sure he came down to our elementary school in bradford and I got to meet him. but it was so long ago my memory is a bit foggy.

  • @macdaddybill Ahhh RocketShip7 great memories from Brampton, ON

  • Who in Ontario will ever forget Irv. Every night you could turn on the Buffalo news and hear Irv reporting there's a fire at Main and Filmore. News at 11.

  • He Has Lunch At A Local Bar Right By Bison Stadium. Awesome Chicken Finger Subs.

  • best retirement sign-off ever

  • I watched Irv from Jamestown NY for many years. I missed him so much after I moved to NC in 1994.. There is no comparison in the news today, Great team, him and Tom Jolls. I was thrilled when my son found actual footage from WKBW on U tube just a couple of days ago.. Thanks!!

  • I too grew up w/Irv from my rural farmhouse in Southern Ontario - a class act and a classy exit. Best wishes Irv. We miss ya.

  • great exit speech

  • Grew up in Buffalo . . . God, that just got to me.

  • He and the rest of the gang were a true legend for those of us growing up in the Niagara Peninsula back in the late 60's / early 70's. Irv - if you're reading this - thanks so much for making staying up late those Friday nights such an unforgettable part of our youth.

  • "Oiv" was the best. Those wonderful alliterations (pistol-packing punks, Buffalo blaze-busters), his opening line ("Topping tonight's Eyewitness News...") and of course, "Finally..." He, Rick Azar and Tom Jolls made quite a team.

Channel 7 hasn't been the same since they retired.

  • One more newscast Irv. I want to hear Pistol packing punks. Buffalo Blazebusters, Buffalo Boys in blue, and of course Finally!

  • "It's 11 o'clock. Do you know what time it is?"

I miss Irv and God-As-My-Witness News.

  • @Lava1964 God-As-My-Witness News? I like that.

  • @TheJamesgordon43 Thanks for the compliment. I can't claim I invented the term "God-As-My-Witness News," but I heard it once somewhere and always liked it too!

  • hes still my fave go!! erv

  • Classic I love Irv. I remember when he announced the winner of the 1980 Olympic hockey game before the pre-televised game was aired.

He said he was sorry but didn't deserved to be called a "jellohead".

    Irv Rocks!!!

  • ...Irv will turn 80 years old in April. Happy birthday Irv! You are the best!

  • one of the best...I would recognize that voice anywhere.

  • My favorite memory of Irv....telling the result of the tape delayed Russian vs USA Olympic hockey game in 1980 before it was over! LOL. Fortunately I saw it live from Canada! Way to go irv!

  • He lives in California

  • IS HE STILL ALIVE THATS ALL I WANNA KNOW

  • Irv Weinstein

    One word

    Legend

  • This guy was great. Topping tonight's eyewitness news....Blaze busters! He made news entertaining. Well done Irv!

  • Its 11:00 do you know where your children are?

  • IRV WEINSTEIN! I grew up watching this guy from Southern Ontario, hope he's still doing well!

  • Yeah, me too. :) He was a welcome voice in Southern Ontario as well as Western New York. :)

  • Irv was truly a class act. Channel 7 news was never the same and their ratings sagged after the Weinstein-Azar-Jolls team disbanded. I lament what used to be. Godspeed, Irv!

  • @thenewhorizons Indeed, Godspeed. What a very effective closing, as well.

  • Irv used to come into my father's business once in a while in Kenmore. He was always a very nice person and would talk to anyone. A very nice guy.

  • Erv will always be the best !!! We Miss Ya ,All The Best To You

  • I remember watching this live. Aired right before the ball drop on the 11:00 news. He is one of the many things i will always remember from my childhood.

  • i used to watch erv when i was in my younger years i am 48 years old and always watching him with the news with my parents when i lived in ridgeway ont near buffalo he will always be in my memories as a great newscaster wish i would of met him in person . he had a great heart , always did a good job .

  • Irv was great. I grew up in Southern Ontario and I think I knew more about the news in Buffalo and Western New York more then I did locally thanks to Irv.

  • I miss Irv!

  • Irv is still the greatest today.

  • Great post; but, can we get a copy where they bring out the cake and the entire staff celebrate?

  • Where is Irv Weinstein now?

  • @johnny10301968 He spends time between living with his children and grandchildren who live in Southern California during the Winter season and also in Western NY during the Spring to Fall months.

Irv was born in Rochester NY and after Rick Azar was the 2nd longest newscaster to work for WKBW News and Station in Buffalo NY.

  • that was beautiful.

  • Godspeed, Irv. Godspeed.

  • Buffalo misses Irv so much :'(
