  • This dude is a good guitar teacher.

    Oak

  • I didnt know santino marella played guitar lol

  • I haven't been playing long and thanx for the bending tip.

  • this is an awesome beginners' guide, thanks much!

  • Pretty cool man.

You should upload a record of yourself playing that song at 7:20, its feels really cool.

What's the song's name, by the way?

    Thank you.

  • That is one of the ugliest guitars I have ever seen. It looks like a weapon.

  • a beginner guitarist cannot bend

  • Your name is "Such A Fluffy"???

  • Thanks for the video! One thing I might add is using your thumb to mute bass strings as well; I kind of habitually wrap my thumb around for the E string on a C chord, for example, and over the A string as well on a D chord, that's something a lot of beginners can find pretty easy to get into the habit of. It kind of goes against point 2, but you can also use a fretting finger to mute a LOWER string, I sometimes use my ring finger to mute the E string in a C chord depending on what transitions

  • This is a great lesson. Thanks so much.

  • you're funny. What's the secret to being happy like you?

  • Just last night I watched as my finger bent inward and said, "okay that cant be good for my joint." This video was very helpful.

Hope it works though, my fingers are short. :(

  • OK, so how do I (2) Arch my fingers and (9) Mute unwanted strings??

  • @ziggerzag101 Arching your fingers is a conscious effort. You should pay attention to your fingers, and whenever they aren't arched, just arch them back, even using your other hand if necessary. Eventually it'll become natural. And about muting unwanted strings, there are two ways: One, touch the bass strings you're not playing with the side of your right hand palm, and two, touch the treble strings you're not playing with the parts of your fingers which don't press the strings. Hope this helps.

  • Hmmm, tell a strat player not to attack strings and you have taken half of their possible tones away, certain styles require different playing dynamics... I dont know how to say most of this information is limiting and bad practice without sounding like a troll but really, it is.

  • @MWRiff I agree with you, but we are talking about two different things here. You are talking dynamics, while I address complete beginners, who still don't apply dynamics. When a beginner attacks the strings (or is too afraid to strum) s/he's not thinking about dynamics, s/he's just practicing wrong approach. Dynamics come later, and not just on strat, but also on acoustic and classical, but a beginner usually plays too softly or too loud *all the time*, which is what I address in this lesson.

  • Are there guitarists that don't use the top strings? For me to hit the frets with the tip of my fingers, I can't play the top strings unless I do chords in a down-right angle.

  • @brucenatelee It's a matter of practice. A guitar player needs to know how to hit any string cleanly and in the right dynamic he or she wants it to sound.

  • great lesson bro,,,,i m learning from your tips...thanks

  • Awesome tutorial bro. I have been doing at least half of those mistakes.Bands like Parkway Drive, Sepultura, Hatebreed, ya know..."heavy stuff". They look like they're smashing the hell out of thier string when they play. Are they or is it all in the settings?

  • @raywhiteusmc Well, there's playing loud and there's hitting the strings for no reason... Actually, to play heavy metal the picking hand should be loose, to get the right dynamics with the shredding. If you attack the strings with the distortion on it sounds like a wail. Then again, sometimes you want to get that wailing sound - So you pick with force. But the general rule is that most of the time the guitar tone comes out best when you just pick the strings with normal strength.

  • @LickNRiff Alright, thanks. I've been blasting my strings because that's how I thought they got thier sound but I guess not. I just couldn't get the "sound" for some reason. I get it now. Thanks bro!

  • i play loud, attack my strings, they never broke!!! just do it right ;)

  • @maggot6639 Indeed. When you attack your strings right, and in the right moments and songs, the music explodes. But when you play *everything* loud (I mean, even ballads), that's when you need to consider dynamics.

  • like THIS @ 4:02 lol

  • The store is open.

  • thank you for the video, helped me out on many questions i had,

  • lol by the way I made most of those mistakes...in the vid I sent thanks for the tips on muting too!

  • Where are your vibrato and bending lesson? I can't find them. I want to improve those techniques.

  • @vockla It's at /watch?v=aIyUIztJhD4

    Enjoy!

  • "First mistake: Not owning a double-neck guitar like me"

  • @droptopsixfo Actually, doublenecks have their own mistake-list :)

  • @droptopsixfo That's not a standard double neck guitar, that is a combination guitar and bass.

  • my neighbour has a shotgun and his not afraid to use it !!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent advice! I just learned not to press it all the way to the wood when I fret ... I figured this because the note kept on going sharp. I thought I had an intonation problem. You just justified my discovery! You don't need tons of strength... now for a bass, which I have been playing for 20 years, much different!

  • Pretty Cool lesson here, Covers the topic quite well. Ive just made a course that you might be interested in. Check it out! would love to know what you think

  • 3:18

    That's what she said.

  • @CorneliusJameson Ha. Nice catch. :)

  • @LickNRiff Probably means she's a better guitar player than you are, though.

  • So effing true man, Personally im pretty proud of myself, i did only 1 of these mistakes, and im self taught =) If beginners just really follow your advises, i wil be alot easier

  • @munkholm45 Thanks man, good to know :) I don't just do beginners lessons. Check out my other videos.

  • @thesuspectsthanet thank you. You can subscribe to my channel and keep up with the lessons, I don't film just beginner-level ones. I'm just getting started. :)

  • bass guitar and guitar in one!

  • Great tutorial my friend, I (personally) learned the hard way (self taught) many years ago, and realising why I sounded so crap I spent years watching other guitarists live and paid special attention to their techniques. Your video outlines all of the most common mistakes, which I made, and thankfully I learned over time. Great video for beginners. Good job! :)

  • dude, if you made this video for beginners you sould play regular guitar instead double-neck to prevent confusion.

    beside that good job !

  • @MrFN1221 Thank you for pointing this out. You're probably right. I'll make sure to use the acoustic for more beginner stuff in the future.
