Confusion... if we call ourselves Gnawa, why would we use black (english word not yet 500yrs. old/blaek being ME). What is the Saharan Berber definition of black... this is needed to further understand and compose a logical argument because right now. Berbers used aguinaw (or agenaou) ... the english interpret that as black man. So they did not call themselves black man, the Europeans did. So wouldn't it be better suited you used the Berbers word instead of the Europeans?

We have always defined ourselves as Black People is the point, in Arabic we said Sudan meaning Black people, We said as the original arabic speakers bilad as-sudan meaning Land of the Black People.

i understand your point brother and i only differ in the use of black instead of Gnawa or another word used to describe us by our ancestors. They didn't mean for Gnawa to be interpreted as "black man", it was intended to define them. Europeans related it to black man, which we both know has a negative connotation. I think "swarthy " better defines us.

Swarthy can indeed be used as one of the discriptions. Gnawa comes from the Berber word 'gnawi' and linguistic African history has our self description all over West Africa in multiple uses of our Divine Black selves. I watched a documentary on Dafur, where a Dafur said that the Sudanese use the term "You Black" in a derragatory fashion towards him and he said that the person calling him that was as black as he was in color (as in African blue black). I could not agree more, we are much more than the color Black, We are an ancient people. This particular series was just showing we described ourselves as black much farther than 500 years ago. Those Moors are liars making that statement and they continue to attack and hate Africa hence hating themselves to get favor from the slave master and oppressor.
