  • Almost forgot... I have a deep and profound respect for your bravery, I think it's heroic. If I had pancreatic cancer, and I saw this video, I'd think to myself... If he can be brave, I can be brave too. No bullshit man, so awesome.

  • Just for the record, I am aware of the bullshit surrounding foreign stem cell therapy, and I'm sure most of it's a scam, if not all of it. But is there ANY legit stem cell therapies ANYWHERE in the world currently??? I'm fishing for hope here, lol.

  • Exactly two weeks ago, my grandfather (who is like my father) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. That night, he ruptured his colon and went in for immediate surgery. Since then, he has been in the hospital, and recover surprisingly well, considering the circumstances. My entire family loves my grandfather, and as a result, is looking into over seas treatments, such as stem cells and Esculzo. My questions.. How did you buy so much time, and how do you feel about these foreign "cures"?

  • Hi El,

Man, I remember having to get up the next day, after surgery and sit in that chair. Wow, your Dad is doing great!! I'm praying for him. Take care..

  • GOD IS GOD, my friend my dad had the procedure here yesterday at Earlanger Hospital in Chattanooga TN. He is sitting on a chair this morning.

  • Thank you

  • Dear El,

I was 58 when diagnosed, so we are somewhat close in age. He is "very" fortunate to be eligible for the Whipple, although it is a life changing, complicated surgery. I probably am NOT the person to ask about diet. I was a very stubborn patient. I was given 2 to 3 years to live. I am going on 11 years, so throw out the stats. I ate everything I liked, and I liked all the wrong foods. lol. Recovery can be slow. Walking is the best way to regain your strength. Rainmakr44@aol.com

  • My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 3 weeks ago he is on stage 3 yesterday they ruled out stage 4 ,he also has a tumor of 7 centimeters,he is going to start treatment next week he is 63 years old and he has a kidney transplant, what is your diet? What do you recommend him.

  • JL,

I have one question for you..Are "You" going to die for me, when it comes my time? I'm sorry about your Mother, but we all have just one shot at this thing they call life, how we choose to live it is a very personal, and private choice. NOT any concern of yours. Are you as sick with Steve Jobs for choosing to fight his very treatable Cancer with diet? Jim Fixx, who wrote the book, and started the jogging craze, died at 40 years old..while jogging. I will NOT allow PC, or you to consume me.

  • Do you know that smoking can cause pancreatic cancer?? You are a survivor and you smoke? My mom died from cancer and she led a completely healthy lifestyle. She did everything she was supposed to do. It makes me sick to see people abusing their bodies and taking life for granted like you do.

  • JL,

One more thing. Pancreatic Cancer has no known cure. I have seen people put themselves through literal Chemo/Radiation hell all for a few months of torturous "Life." Life not only has Length..It has Breadth. I love life, but, am not so afraid to die that I let this Cancer destroy, and change my entire life. My sympathies to you for your loss..

  • @Rain44maker Well congratulations, you're shortening your life even more. Possibly with lung cancer now. My mom was in the hospital getting a blood transfusion & her roommate was in there because she damaged her liver so much from being an alcoholic. she was in the hospital. and all she wanted to do was get out of there so she can go drink. it makes me sick how people WANT to die & take life for granted. She should have died. and not my mom. My mom died the day after my damn wedding.

  • Dear JL,

I have spent years helping Pancreatic Cancer patients on the John Hopkins PC Cancer board.I have been asked to speak in LA, at the Beverly Hilton.I have seen hundreds of "Friends" die from this deadly Cancer.I have called them, knew their kids names, traveled to meet them.I have seen "Many" of my friends die who did everything their doctors ordered them to do.You HAVE to let this bitterness go,if you don't,you are allowing it to continue to effect your life.I am not terrified of death.

  • Dear JL,

Do you think your mother is the only one who has died trying their hardest to live?I have seen countless human beings, with young children die of this cancer.During my recovery from the 10 1/2hour surgery, where they spent hrs scraping cancer off my veins,my son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. We lost him to his disease. You have absolutely no right to judge my life,or how I live it.This Cancer has robbed me of my quality of life.I went from 190lbs to 118lbs.

  • I can no-longer play the game I love..Golf. I LOVED my job at GE Aircraft Engines. It forced me to retire. I went from $60 thousand to $1400 a month. Did your Mother raise you to be bitter and judgmental? I am SO sorry you lost your Mother, but for you to attack the way I choose to battle it, is as unfair as those who condemn Steve Jobs choice of fighting his Cancer with "Diet." You are letting this cancer make you bitter, and I'm sure that's not how your Mother raised you.Love Ray..

  • @Rain44maker i cured my pancreatic cancer

  • Hi enorton,

Thanks for the kind words. I admit, I really debated on letting people see how I "really" looked. I'm embarrassed with my body. I got my Black Belt in my mid-40's..and kept myself reasonably in shape. I saw picture's of Patrick Swaze as he reached his end, and I just decided I wasn't being truthful about this cancer. My prayers and good wishes are with you,Brother. No Retreat/No Surrender.. :)

  • nice video...my mom was just diagnosed a couple of months ago and the more reseasrch i do the more discouraged i get with the situation...i wish u the best...keep fighting

  • Pancreatin(Kelly Protocol), Gerson Therapy, Budwig Protocol, Dr. Bruzynski's Antineoplastins, Dr. Forsythe Clinic, POLYMVA, AHCC,Avemar, Please Google..

  • Hi Donnad,

What Stage is she? Food often tastes bad after the Whipple surgery. I had a bad fight with nausea for a while, until they discovered the problem..my stomach opening was too small. They expanded it. I know it's hard on you. Cancer effects the whole family..Good luck..

  • my grandma was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer july 2011. she wont eat and says food taste rotten. did you have this? she is in the hospital right now and isnt doing too good. im REALLY hoping she pulls through. cancer is horrid!!! i never knew it was so bad until having a loved one go through it. stay strong everyone you are not alone!!!

  • THIS IS UR MISSION. TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND PANCREATIC CANCER FROM A SURVIVOR'S POINT OF VIEW. NO ONE CAN TELL IT LIKE U CAN. WE UNDERSTAND UR LANGUAGE OPPOSED TO FANCY MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY. U HAVE NO IDEA HOW HELPFUL U HAVE BEEN. VERY COURAGEOUS. I SAW UR LAST VIDEO AND I HOPE TO NEVER SEE ANYTHING LIKE THAT FROM U AGAIN. WE'RE DEPENDING ON U TO EDUCATE US. UR VERY BRAVE. DON'T HURT US LIKE THAT.

  • to reiterate even further, I am thankful my mother had symptoms because pancreatic cancer 98% of the time is caught in the 4th stage. In addition, people with this form of cancer don't have any symptoms until the later stages as well. While I am grateful to still have my mother, thanks to early early detection, I would be even more so grateful if they came up with more medical research about this cancer. My condolences go out to all family members who have lost loved ones to PC & cancer in gen.

  • My mom was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer a few years ago. Fortunately, she was 1 and 30,000 where they caught it early. My mother had symptoms (thank goodness) of irregular breathing, breathing constriction, etc. Although its not well known yet, my mom had the cancer removed laparoscopically (and did not have to undergo the whipple procedure). She is a 3 year survivor, but the cancer will most likely come back, thankfully it will get caught early when it does. Early detection is key.

  • I lost my aunt to pancreatic cancer last year. She went from being on the go all the time and enjoying life to being totally bedridden within a span of 2-1/2 months. This is a totally devastating disease both for the patient and loved ones.

  • My mom passed away from this in 2008. I must admit, it is quite annoying seeing that you smoke and she didnt, but you have my respect and my heart goes out to you. She passed when i was 17 and im full of regrets. I was a depressed teenager and sometimes i reacted harsly for example when she passed gas in the car i got angry. Anyways, seeing my mom with a huge fluid filled belly, yellow eyes, not being able to walk up the stairs, has been enough for me to sit in a hole and smoke pot for 3 years.

  • @BobbyBadfingers im letting my mom down which makes me even more sad.

  • Michael Landon, Patrick Swayze & Benjamin Orr from the band The Cars all died from this cancer. Im sure many more names we would all know. Its a baddie.

  • VERY POWERFUL VIDEO!

  • Thank you for this video. I am 28 years old and my doctors just found a pancreatic mass. I'm optimistic that it's not cancer because it would be extremely rare for someone my age. But I'm still nervous. Your video gives me hope whatever this mass turns out to be.

  • My Dad was diagnosed with this vile disease in October 2009, 2 weeks after my grandson was born. 11 weeks later he was gone. He had had no pain, or sickness, but major weight loss, lack of appetite, depression, and finally brown urine and jaundice. Too little is known about this horrid disease and I started a group on Facebook to both support families that have lost someone to it and to make people aware of it in the media. We are Families in Support of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness.

  • @Justjayne01 My name is Ray Neighbor, I'm wearing a Black hat in case there's two of us. I would be honored to be your friend, and help in any way I can.

  • @Rain44maker Hello Ray, you keep fighting it, don't let it win! I would be honoured to be your friend too, you are an inspiration and as for helping, just keep spreading the word and if you like, join us on Facebook! Take care my friend x

  • Im so sorry, We just found out 5 days ago that the doctors believe that e has pancreatic cancer. We are still waiting on his biopsy results but whatever it is has spread to his liver and they give my father 7 months. We are just so devastated.I have a two year old little girl and i just cant imagine her growing up without him. My dad is so weak and is forcing himself to eat. In less than 2 weeks hes lost 15 lbs. Its killing me to see my big strong dad falling apart.

My heart goes out to you.

  • @sugurnspice22 I'm so sorry. He sounds like Stage 4/ Early detection could have saved him..it's just not a Popular Cancer. You may notice a change in behavior, or attitude. When a loved one gets cancer, "EVERYONE" gets it. Weight loss is VERY common. I was lucky, I kept my good appetite, but went from 190 lbs..to 120 lbs. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please got to the John Hopkins Pancreatic cancer board..run by PanCan. People from all over the World post there. Rainmakr44@aol.com

  • @sugurnspice22 Good luck to your father and family. My grandfather passed away on Feb 25th 2011 from pancreatic cancer this year. They gave him 6 months and he died in 3 weeks. He never smoke, he never drank, he ate healthy, but still this happened. Just remember to hug your dad as many times as you can because you will miss his touch.

  • I am so sorry you're going thru this... stay strong my friend!

  • i don't know if i can totalay relate to you. but i have have what they call chonic pancreatitis or heraitary pancreatitis for 32 years of life. i have not got cancer yet thank god. but i have deal with horrible pain for years. i have had 9 ercps. i had my gallblladder removed like 24 years ago. i know some of what you are going through

  • @bluegrassman776 Omigod,

Pancreatitis is one of the worst pains you can have. I had it a year before my diagnoses, and alway wondered why they didn't do a more complete check up. I've had 5 ERCPS. Stay strong.

  • WOW... that's just... I feel for you man. :( Ever since hearing about Aretha Franklin reportedly suffering from it, I did read up on it but seeing what it did to you, that's just sad. Why people haven't done anything to find a detection of its early prognosis yet?!

  • I've just been diagnosed. Yup. I'm 14. Ahh, this just makes me feel a lil bit better

  • OUR reality is that even when we reach the 5 year mark post-whipple we aren't cured. We have to take enymes to help us digest/process our food. If we don't take enough of the enzymes, malabsorption/malnutrition sets in. We deal daily w/post-whipple digestive pain, diabetes, diabetic neuropathy & depression. In my 5+ yrs, I've been hospitalized with ascites, bowel obstructions & an allergic reaction to prescribed potassium b/c my potassium level was too low. Thanks for coming out with the truth!

  • @miladymouse I'm going on 10 years, and have a doctors app tomorrow because my bowel pain is getting to be too much. Plus people don't understand the depression. I swear. if I knew what I know now, I might not have had the Whipple..Life not only has length, it has breadth. I would rather have a shorter time with quality, than a long time fighting this storm. You take care. I know what your going through. Love Ray..

  • Hopefully it helps. I hate seeing my mom cry constantly because she doesn't want to lose her best friend. She has an 8 year old son who has down syndrome, and he really needs her in his life. Thank you for sharing this, it really did give me a lot of hope.

  • Ray, this video really touched me. My mom's best friend, who is like a second mom to me was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We were just told she has 6-12 months to live. You've given me hope that she stays longer. I'm only 15, but I'm really wanting to help with pancreatic cancer becoming researched upon. I've done a lot of research and am planning on writing to the US representatives and senate for a new research approach by co-sponsoring the Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act.

  • I heard suger feeds cancer. Probly not a god idea to be drinking coke. Just saying...

    hang in there man.

  • @slumberingsam Thanks, Brother..

  • @slumberingsam geez..those cigarettes can't be helping much either in general!

  • If scoring is 1-10, this is a 20! Thanks for sharing!

  • If the scoring it 1-10, this is a 20. Thank you for sharing!

  • Take care, we're praying for you!

    Joe

  • Take care, and I'm praying for you!

    Joe

  • Ray, you are amazing. My little brother died in September of 2009 after a 10 month battle with this terrible disease. His whipple failed, as the surgeon found tumors on the liver, so he was stitched up and sent home to die. I hope that your message gets to those who direct research funding, and that PC finally gets it's fair share of attention. You are dead-on with your comments. I watched helplessly as my brother went from a 330 lb. healthy guy to a 150 lb. skeleton before he finally succumbed

  • @larsdeiter I'm so sorry about you Brother. He was a giant man, and I have this feeling he also had a giant heart. I am a 9 year survivor, but I cannot stop my weight loss. There is no cure. Weight loss may be a result of a common problem in cancer called cachexia. Approximately half of all cancer patients experience cachexia, a wasting syndrome ...I think that's what I have. May you remember him as he was. Love Ray..

  • @larsdeiter

i am so sory for your brother

my mom is in the last stage .. she has been through alot lately >>everybody in my family is suffering .. i know that we might loose her in the next 2 weeks -god forbid- but this is the sad trouth that we still dont want to believe it .. we still have hope that god cure her

  • my best friend was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, only a few months now, hes changing alot, thankyou for this video, you are beautiful.

  • My Father died of pancreatic cancer in December of 2007. I will never forget a 215lb muscular guy, going to 110lbs in a matter of months... It was and still is heartbreaking for me.

  • @pettyofficer30 I'm sorry about your Father. There's a name for the weight loss. Patrick Swaze had it too. He was a skeleton before his death. I eat like a horse, but still lose. My heart goes out to you. Remember the Bull of a man who was your dad. Ray..

  • It was so horrible seeing my aunt losing all the weight so frail, so sick, she had to have an illostomy bag and that really harmed her more so from what I seen. I hope you take it easy and your story touched me rainmaker hope to hear from you.

  • Thanks for posting and speaking the truth about this deadly disease. It's a terrible and frustrating reality that pancreatic cancer research is grossly underfunded. I hope there are some people out there who are doing everything in their power to find a cure.

I just lost a dear friend to pancreatic cancer in May. She was diagnosed in January. She was in a deep depression her last 5 months, like she knew she wasn't going to make it. I didn't understand the hopelessness back then, but now I do.

  • your vid brought tears to my eyes. God bless you dear and may you have a longevous life. Hope you're doing well.

  • How are you doing? Are you pulling through ok?

  • @silentobservor I am a terrible patient, yet somehow I've managed to survive. I would my survival in a second for a man or woman with small children. They had to spend 10 and half hours scraping cancer of my veins. Another month and I would have been Stage 4(inoperable). Sometimes I just get weary. I went from 186 lbs to 119 lbs. It's been a long up and down battle. But, it's the life I was given.. :)

  • God bless you! Thank you for your honesty. I pray that God gives you the strength to keep pushing on. Your life counts.

  • Smoking cigarettes doesn't seem like a wise choice, especially after that monstrous Whipple procedure. This cancer is so insidious and because there are 60,000+ cases s year diagnosed, funding is less than other more prevalent cancers (ie, lymphoma, breast cancer, prostate cancer). Getting this cancer in the mainstream is the only way. You are probably right about people (except diabetics) not knowing where the pancreas is and what it does.

  • @szqsk8 / I'm sorry about the smoking, but I think cancer causes smoking. I just figured if I was going, I would just keep dancing to the music of my time. :)

  • I thought you were about to go shirtless dude, yeah my Aunt died a couple years ago. She was a true champ, she was black too.

  • I was at the hospital 2hours ago seen a friend. The doctor came in and said she has cancer. I am devastated! She is 25 and she will be 26 this saterday...

  • my dad has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. im his 15 year old son and i have a little brother who is 10. my dad is married to my mom. my dad was diagnosed at the young age of 33 with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. he was given 4-6 months to live, and he is now on 1 year, and 4 months and a little over 200 pounds. he was mis diagnosed for months. but i hate seeing my dad every day from chemo and being so sad all the time. hes not at all what he once used to be. its so hard having a dad with cancer.

  • @sk8tisrad Dear Justin.

You are a good son. It would be nice to have the power to make life go as we want..but we can't. Your dad is sad because he is worried about you. The best you can do is let him know you love him, and that he's taught you how to face the ups and downs of life. He is lucky to have a son like you...and you a father like him. Just take life as it comes. It will be alright, son.

  • @sk8tisrad So sorry your having to go through that your so young, I just lost my aunt to this so it hurts but stay strong for your family and my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

  • @sk8tisrad I know what your going through bud. I know it sucks and it hurts just help him out all you can (which i'm sure you are) and never forget these times with him.

  • @sk8tisrad You are so right. It is so hard....

  • You are an inspiration to all... You should be proud of your fight. My husband died at 36 years of age after being diagnosed just 4 months ago. He left behind a 4 year old son and i gave birth to our second just 2 weeks after he passed. Those 4 months although being the hardest of my life they were also the most inspiring my husband was a brave brave man he fought right until the end even after they stuck him on a syringe driver. I think anyone who battles pancreatic cancer is amazing.

  • @sarz4484 No, You are the hero. What a tragic story. I send my love. Love Ray..

  • Oh, I hope you still come here Rain44maker. I see that all these posts were written 2 month ago. I have many doubts about the way my husband died in the hospital, and probably you can help me. My husband went into the emergency room to have a procedure so the urine could pass, and he came out of there unconscious, and never opened his eyes again. He died 10 days later. I cannot live thinking about this sad situation. I hope you see me.

  • @TheCelis22 Please write me at Rainmakr44@aol.com. I know you must feel so all alone. Ray..

  • Rain44maker

I am in so much pain since my husband passed and it is not going to get better. I really need to speak with someone who knows how it feels. How do they feel inside after each Chemo session. Evething my husband went through during the 5 months he lived after he was diagnosed is very, very sad. Please let me know how we can get in touch.

  • Rain44maker, HI, Please tell me how can I get in touch with you. I wrote here a long post asking you a few questions and they didn let me send it, probably because it was too long. My husband died from pc 4 month ago, and I feel you will be of great help to me. Please let me know.

  • Hi Ray,

Love what you did. Very brave to tell it how it really is. I was dx age 41 2.5 years ago. I have kids and hope I will be around to see them grow up like a normal mum. I too was one of the "lucky" ones able to have surgery - so many others are not. We here in the UK have the same problems with little or no research investment and equally poor survival rates. Well done to you for talking out about it. Let's hope someone listens. Take care xxx

  • Thanks for your comments. I'm really pulling for you. I know UK faces the same apathy, and low funding as we do. Damn, that's young!! They seem to keep get getting younger. Your friend from across the sea, Ray..

  • Hi Ray....I think your video is great and tells the truth. My husband was diagnosed 9/7/09....it has taken him over...I can only hope for good things for him right now. He has been in the hospital more than he has been out...we both are trying to fight this battle.....he is getting weak and so am I. Hoping for a miracle!!!!! I only wish for a few more good years...I dont think that is to much to ask. My head spins half the time trying to think of things to do for him.

  • God,

I wish I could scream to the world about all the pressure, depression, emotions of the Caretaker. I send you all my love, and pray for some quality of life, and some days of peace for you, Love you, Ray..

  • part of my memories of my mom are related to your board posts. I posted as johngreece 2005-2007. They gave me strength. I loved one remark of yourw in an other video about "nobody can live smelling roses every day" How true it is.

  • Hey John,

I remember seeing the name. I'm so sorry about your mom. The one thing about moms, her love will always guide you. She lives in you. She made you a better man, and I bet you were a wonderful caretaker for her. Take care, Brother. Love, Ray..

  • Trying to find the words to say to you, but can't. May you receive healing love and peace, Ray. You are loved.

  • jj,

I can read between the lines. I know your sincerity, and I am touched...truly. I love you,too..

  • Ray, you ROCK!!! We love you!

    Pam

  • Pam!!!!!!!!!,

YOU are the one who ROCKS. If people only knew all youv'e done, and keep doing. Love, Ray..

  • God Bless You

    R.I.P. mom (1928-2003)

  • I'm so sorry. Love, Ray..

  • Ray, thanks for sharing...its AnnaSch from the board. Huggzzzz I will be following you here!

  • Dear Anna,

My old friend. I'm almost afraid to ask you how your friend is doing. It's so good to hear from you. Love, Ray..

  • Ray, It's been a LONG journey for us. You know me better as Mary Y -PA on the Hopkins PC Chat Board. I'll be a 5-year survivor on 4/13/10 so I beat the odds also, but truth be told, I can count on one hand the people I started this journey with who are still alive.

This video isn't offending at all! What is offending and uncomprehensible is the fact that we can't get more help in the way of funding for research and awareness.

Thank you for posting this video. It is sooo very true.

  • (((((((((Mary)))))))

I know you quite well, and am so glad you are still with us. I admire you, because I know the path to being a survivor can be a difficult one. You inspire. Love, Ray..

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for this Ray. You inspired me with your posts when my Mum was first diagnosed 4 years ago and this video says it all. Mum's still with us and fighting hard. God bless you.

    Claire UK

  • Hi Claire,

Thanks so much for you kind words, and send my love to your Mum. I hope her quality of life is good. God bless, you, too. Love Ray..

  • You are beautiful in all ways that count, Ray. Thanks for showing the real devastation of this disease, even on survivors.

  • DM,

Thanks for understanding why I made that video. Your words mean so much. Love Ray..

  • Powerful Ray. Powerful.

  • Hey Mike..My Friend,

Thanks for you words. Love, Ray..

  • You aren't offending. You are teaching. Thank you.

  • You are a true Brother, and Friend,

I appreciate your friendship..always. Love, Ray..
