Get the ATi 3870HD single core. 250 USD. It is as fast as the 8800gts i believe... gts or gt... bigger bang for the buck! heck get the nvidia mother board and sli! 9600GT is out! 170 bucks!
Congrats with the new card! Also make sure that you have a good cpu and ram so you don't end up bottlenecking your system like I did; you can really lose lots of performance that way.
Hmm the 8800 is great, but make sure to get a 640MB version 'cause those resolutions can be pretty tough to handle with only 320MB (my friends have told me). Also, I have heard about Finland. Actually I live in Denmark which is in Europe too ;)
The 320mb version should handle the 1680x1050 resolution, if you go easy on the anti aliasing and anisotropic. If it wasn't cos I got a good deal for a 640mb one, I'd go with the 320mb version and get another one to run in SLI in the future. But I'm going to run in 1440x900 resolution, so maybe that doesn't apply to you. These cards overclock to close to 8800GTX performance, so viva affordable high-end cards ^-^
I'm running PREY on my GeForce 7800GS+ AGP 8x (G71) which performs same as GF7900GT, 2GB of Kingston Ram and Pentium Extreme Edition CPU (3,5 GHz) on 1600X1200X32 with all details set to max (except anti-aliasing)wiht no lag at all. Card is running at stock clocks.
yeh, that one's got 256mb, right? I don't think 256mb/320mb cards got problems with any current games as long as they stay under like 1800x1440 resolutions.

@porkyminch01 who said anything about alpha. We're talking penis size and computer specs over here.
Alphas are only alpha because of verrry small penis, so vous le vous coucher avec moi

Doesn't really SHOW its maxed out i mean the video quality is kind of low.
However this game reminds me of bioshock.

I hate the fact that in PREY, its actually impossible to get a game over when you die, as you are endlessly sent back from the other realm...

which was the lowest framerate?
Smasher4ya 4 years ago
Lowest framerate was... I don't remember but something close to 40 fps. Also, that was while fraps was recording :)
simpsons225 4 years ago
Okay. I wonder how well it would play on 1680*1050, which i use. I'm also gonna buy an 8800 to my new comp, when I get it.. :D
(If you think I speak bad english, it's okay, because it's not my mothertongue, I live in Finland and speak finnish (if you have ever heard))

Okay, then we both live in Scandinavia.
And yes, I also figured that memory-thing out, but 640 mb is more expensive.
I wouldn't say money is a problem, rather the upcoming 8600 GTS is 'the problem'.
The 8600 GTS would be nice in Sli! :D
P.S. What do you think about Finland?
I think Denmark is a good place, I've been there once! :D
vombo2 4 years ago
Okay sounds good. I haven't ever been in Finland, so I can't really say anything about it :)
