  • @antzy89 walk now by orbital.

  • Pacman!

  • Its not just Sydney has those pedestrian signals. They have at Victoria too :D

  • I cant believe someone would make a video of this. It never occurred to me that these were uniquely Australian and that anyone would find them fascinating. Ill never look at a crossing the same again.

  • @scottclements78 They are not uniquely australian, We have them in the US too, its just because most people never seem to like to WALK anywhere in the US :-/

  • Ohja :) immer wenn ich in sydney war fand ich das geräusch der ampeln immer son lustig :) muss da mal wieder hin!

    Sydney is COOL!

  • I loooooved those things when visiting Australia! Memories...

  • Press to get the green light, I have seen a lots ppl though the green light will comes on automatically..........

  • Having one of these bastards outside of your bedroom window is suicide-inducing.

24 hours a day, you must listen to the BOP....BOP....BOP...DODODODODODODODODO.

  • @mubd1234 lol should hear the British ones - even more annoying!!!

  • @MovieMad007 why there is for the blind... come on at least we are nice to the blind unlike the USA where they keep them guessing lolz..

  • @GayBoyRunning They have them in Ireland!!

  • @MovieMad007 I've notices..

  • these are like everywhere in australia.

  • cool, we have them in melbourne aswell...

  • Almost the same as those we use in Sweden.

  • These signals are used in Ireland too

  • The faint beep is a Locator Tone, so a blind ped can find the button. The rapid loud beep corresponds to the WALK signal, letting blind peds know that the WALK signal is on. The raised arrow lets you know which street the button is for. It may vibrate as well (Vibrotactile) for pedestrians who have both vision and hearing impairments.

The audio cue that the WALK signal is on can also be helpful for peds with developmental disabilities, as well as for anyone who is not staring at the light.

  • The first place I heard one of these was in Auckland, so I assumed that it was imitating the sound of a kiwi.

  • the noise is actually to alert blind people that the road is now safe to cross.

  • Strange... Sounds seem a bit confusing. Is the fast chirping the indication that it is safe to cross?

  • They do that everywhere in Australia, you know.
