  • U.S. version's better btw, UK version sounds like a watered down Bay Watch theme.

  • They're both equally as funny, PERIOD.

  • UK theme is way better

  • This is perfect!

  • I think the difference between the us and uk versions is timing. In uk the jokes run together and if you cought it you cought it, if you didn't too bad for you. In the us version the jokes have an exclamation point and give the audience a chande to react to what just happened. Which one is better depends on which side of the Atlantic you live.

  • Why always UK and US? What about the French version? German version? Chilean version? Israeli version?

  • Love both... The UK version feels more like a documentary than the US version... Which makes the UK version funnier at certain moments - because the actors do a good job at a real workplace....

  • I wish the actual shows would cross over. sigh...why must UK be done?

  • @CloudCukkooLander Well it was funny to have Ricky Gervais cameo twice. Although brief, it was brilliant...

  • I think the US version is good, and definitely a different humor, but I'd still say the UK version is mountains better.

  • @sremmusyt to be fair american shows just work differently to british ones. its unusual for a show to go beyond 3 series in britain whereas in america the proof of its popularity is in its length. thats just not how british tv works. i think The Office UK would have been worse if it was longer, its the perfect length, there's no dragging it out. i actually love both versions but since i watched the uk office first i have to go with that one. plus i just love ricky gervais and stephen merchant

  • The water synchronization is absolutely perfect.

  • @ tjoceasde: If Steve Carell actually leaves The Office... imagine -. Steve walking out the door and Ricky Gervais walking in as his replacement. The viewer's response could open the door for The Office (USA) to blend with the BBC cast.

  • I wonder if they'll do this next week when Ricky Gervais makes his cameo appearance on the show.

  • I've loved the UK version from it's birth and have branched out into the US version and am still enjoying it so may it last forever!

  • I really the uk theme better. i think i might now give the us version a chance

  • The music really doesn't suit the video

  • If the early Star Wars movies were re-shot by James Cameron, regardless of how flashy and new tech he makes it, it will never outrank the original movies by George Lucas.

Same goes here, UK is the ORIGINAL. The US version is a remake of the series and is borrowing ideas from Ricky Gervais.

  • needs more cowbell

  • UK version uses some very sublte humor which some people find it hard to understand especaily if not british as uk and usa cultures are more different then some believe

  • @WasLilChrisnowbigish

OK!!!! Does anyone really feel to that because decided that even the use (wich does looks like) even so really goes to feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the NBC version because the humor is more broad, as compared to the UK version, where only certain people will find it funny.

I think The Office non-spinoff, Parks & Recreation, isn't very funny, at all, because the humor tends to be way more subtle than the NBC version of The Office.

  • This opening is really shit Slough is better

  • I'm an American and I think both series are great in their own ways. The humor of the British version is more subtle and less in-your-face. It takes getting used to, but after repeat viewings, you can really learn to appreciate it. Keep in mind that Steve Carell has never watched the original series and did not intend to mimic David Brent in the first place. I think he's brought his own style in portraying the character of Michael Scott in a way that works perfectly.

  • this will always be the uk one as it comes up at the end of the us based on the BBC drama office classic

  • The US boss can't compare to the UK boss RIcky Gervais.

  • I dunno why, but I just think the UK one's theme suited the whole Office universe. They're doing an Israeli one now.

  • The US version is my favorite and it's expanded the story, but it wouldn't have had certain plot points were it not for the UK series.

  • Arrested Development, Seinfeld, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Office (US) There you have the best comedy

  • i think uk office really made something about this kind of cinematography and mockumentary things.

i love 1, 2 season of us version but uk is really respectable series.

yeah, personally uk is better. start first, better story than us office. and also i love this intro theme.

  • UK version destroys American one! The only reason Americans don't like the Original, is because Americans know absolutely nothing about anything outside of America........:)

  • @ JonnyCashmore

Im American and I love the British Office.

  • isnt that sterotyping man

  • amn you cant say that the us one sis not funny like come on COME ON

  • that`s the comment tooo much certally what i see!!! and thinks is totally really!!!

  • Self-deprecating humor isn't really something Americans would look forward to. You know, you come home from work and you want to take your mind off of your life with something that will pick you up. British humor sort of celebrates banality by looking at it in a different way while the U.S. celebrates outrageousness.

  • The US version is better, all commenters below me feel cool for liking a show from the UK

  • Or you know, maybe, just maybe, they actually find the original Office to be a better show. Me included, although I am a huge fan of the American Office aswell, having seen every episode.

  • I'm an American and I prefer the British version.

  • I like the US theme the best and i perfer the US series over the UK mostly because it's been running longer

  • I agree with some of the comments here. The UK version is miles ahead of the US version IMO. Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant are genius writers and the UK version is how they intended it (like a documentary - real life) The US version is typical try-hard comedy, but I guess that is what some people like. The UK cast are so natural and genuinely funny. UK all the way! (I am Australian btw, and we GET the UK humour!)

  • @TD7041

You do know the same people Ricky Gervas and Steve Merchant created the US one too?

  • Hahahah wow

  • The UK version of the office only has 12 episodes+ a christmas speical because Gervais wanted to get out on the top of his game and he got that from 'Fawlty Towers'. I dont know why the Americans think because theres more US episodes that its better. It just means that the've turned it into another tyipical American sicom. The office was created and changed a genre of comedy, the US version was created and stayed the same as everything else. I hope they milk the office idea till it hits bottom.

  • you know what we say here in america?

why do it? when you can over do it?

  • it has nothing to do with it having more episodes but the US version is funnier imo,

  • You Brits are so bitter. The Office US is far from being typical. I respect Ricky Gervais for his original idea but I must say I much prefer the American version. I guess it's a cultural thing as I'm more in tune with American comedy, not to say that British humour isn't good, it's just different.

  • The UK version just kill it >: 3

    q p

     U

  • Already done.

  • The UK version was great, had it been being received as well as it is now, might have been on longer. Im not saying The US version of the office with Steve Carell is not amazing as well, both Ricky and Steve play their characters perfectly. Everyone points out how similar they are, but in fact (imo) they are somewhat differernt characters. "The Office" idea was Ricky's and without him we wouldnt have the UK or the US version, so thank you Ricky=].

  • and still the us version it sooo much better

  • the UK office was based on a US film called office space. which is based on cartoons by mike judge.

    thank you mike,

  • Comment removed

  • this depressing song goes well with scranton

US Office is muchh funnier btw

  • hahah amen to that

  • The german version is the best.

  • the us version is the best!!! its gone beyond the uk office.

  • uk version is the best

  • Comment removed

  • the uk version is funny but personally i like ours better

  • i find both of them that good.

  • US version was pretty good, but its gotten pretty played out. One thing about UK shows is that they tend to quit while they are at their peak creatively (not always the case).

  • Is there nobody else who thinks both series are equally funny?? People just don't understand they're completely different kinds of humour, yet equally brilliant. Or they just don't get one of the kinds of humour...

  • i love both

  • @artvandelay13

Thank you. Finally someone who I agree with. Both shows are great but they have very different executions. And besides, just because you like one version doesnt mean that the other version has to be the "enemy." People are kinda stupid. haha

  • @artvandelay13 the uk one is funny but its a different type of humor, the uk one is like not funny all the mime from my point of view but its still funny..

  • @artvandelay13 Both are brilliant. I find the UK version just slightly funnier as it is the one that started it all. The US one is still one of my favourite TV shows though.

  • @artvandelay13 I love them both in different ways. For me its like watching two totally different shows that I love. I don't even compare them.

  • @telliwood Agreed... they both have a life of their own, both great!

  • pretty good...

  • i kind of like both.

i mean i don't understand a lot of the UK humor, but it still is funny.

and the US version is just funny. :)

so hooray for all, no need to make a television show a controversy!

  • ... Reversed? :P

  • Bravo *nods head in respect*.

  • Uk version owns, got a better theme n all

  • i like both versions

  • I don't like US version, I think that the UK version is much funnier than this.

  • I got addicted to steve carell/michael scott, the guy is amazing

  • DId you chop the US opening up to fit the song or does it work out that way?

  • both shows are cool in their own way. That's my opinion. I just like to laugh, no matter what version. :D

  • I think the US is better..... but this is good too:)

  • UK OFFICE will always be superior. It changed the "sitcom." I love the US version, but just for its outrageousness, not really because of the writing. Ricky and Steve are the greatest.

  • i like the US song the best it's so fun i even have it on my ipod

  • I both versions suit their own country. i.e the UK has a much more erm...conserved natural humour (I mean that in a good way!) whereas the US seems to have a more obvious laugh out loud humour. It's similar to if you compare Whose Line UK with Whose Line US, they're both good in their own ways. :)

  • haha wow that's really cool =P

  • wow debate about which version is better. Well im a fan of the UK office and i am very very soon about to get my hands on a bunch of US seasons.

I caught a couple episodes of the US office and it seriously struck a cord with me. It appears like they did a hell of a job mirroring the UK Version.

The main characters like dawn, tim, david are really emulated well in the american version. The gareth version is a bit off/different but i will wait to comment again when i see more.

  • handbags and gladrags is a GREAT song, but yeah it doesnt fit the US version of the Office although i love both versions.

  • That tune is too depressing for the US Office. I think that it totally suits the UK version, but the US is more... happier (dummer).

  • i like the US version better

    both theme song and jokes..etc.

    probably because i am american

and i don't understand british humor that well

idk..it might just be because i'm used to the american version

  • yah

  • both US and British versions are great in my opinion. i like the US theme better, but toss up between show content as to which i like better.

  • overall, us theme is better

but the british show is funnier

  • i like them both:)

  • us theme way better

  • I'd like an opposite reversal of this.

(U.S. Theme, British Opening) Well, if both openings are the same length.

  • I love the U.S. office and i'm sure i would love the u.k one too but i have to say the U.S. theme song is better

  • Doesn't really fit too well (Theme to Intro)

  • What a gay theme song

  • i tried to watch the UK version but the accents were too thick i couldnt understand the jokes. But im sure they are both awesome in their own right

  • They are almost the same in alot of ways, but I personally love the UK version and hate the US version (And I generally like Steve C.) but to each his own I say

  • yeah

I like the US version but for people from the UK that are accustomed to British accents and British jokes and comedy probably like it more.

  • Your version tried to copy ours (UK) but failed miserably. On the other hand, credit where it's due, you guys did an awesome job with Frasier in which I have all 11 seasons.

  • hey...

the US did not "copy" the UK version,

don't you know ricky gervais created the US version? did you know there is also a Canadian, French, German, and Chilean version?

you're talking out of your ass just to take a swing at America, because you're ignorant

  • I Know! We Americans are so original! we actually made a bunch of big changes! like... we made Tim... into Jim!!!

    -fellow american.

  • no no no you have to look at it as more of a Translation. Like americans wouldnt enjoy it if theya ll had british accents and what not cuz were not used to that. plus the original office only lasted 14 episodes... So it seems the british didnt like their version much better than we did. but dont get me wrong, i think they are exactly the same and thats good. its not like were ripping them off and calling it a different name and saying "No no its way different"

  • To clarify, i believe the UK version only lasted 12 episodes (+2 xmas specials) because Ricky Gervais didn't want to ruin what was a good show - ie, wanted to end on a high. The British loved the show (i, for one, wish it had carried on). The reason The Office is funny is because it re-enacts real-life office life, whiist it seem to me that the US version is trying too hard to be funny, which isn't the point of The Office.

  • Are you british? and see i dont think the office is trying to hard to be funny. Ive seen shows and such that are, and they are really annoying but i dont think its that way with the US office at all.

  • i agree with GJSports in that Gervais probably did want to leave on a high note. we shouldn't compare.

UK: funny, does a great job of keeping it as realistic as possible, doesn't get too in depth with each character, but that makes it all the more real.

USA: funny, in an obvious way (i agree) but still realistic. you get a better feel for the characters and learn about all the characters, which draw you in by adding on to the story line.

over all, i love both shows! both hilarious individually

  • "the original office only lasted 14 episodes... So it seems the british didnt like their version much better than we did."

I'm afraid that's wrong, Ricky Gervais decided to leave the public wanting more, he believed the storyline came to a natural end. It was HIS decision, the BBC practically gave him a blank cheque to continue but he declined and moved onto Extras, another stunning show.

  • Hey, I love the US office. And I'm sure I would love the UK one, I've been trying to track it done, but it's tought here.

  • dude if the american version was crap then how come so many people watch it every week. now look i like the UK version just as much as the US however it was too short and its story wasn't developed to the extent that Gervais wanted it, so he took the idea to the US and there you go

  • failing miserably at copying something might as well be making a whole new something dont hate for no reason

  • Ive never watched the american version. Im to loyal to the original and Im afraid of being let down.

  • the uk one isnt as good and there are less episodes.

  • Yeah because the mark of a good sitcom is in the quantity.

  • Four words as to why the US Office reigns supreme over the UK Version

    "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!!!"

  • haha totally!

  • Yeah catchphrases are what make good comedy - not.

  • do it the other way around

  • zedterapist has got a point, The Office over in America is really lighthearted and funny, the US theme is perfect for our version. I don't know whether the UK version is not supposed to be funny or not but your theme song is just not as catchy as ours...

  • I usually tap my foot to the US theme, and for some reason I anticipating it so I started to tap my foot, then the UK theme came on and I stopped.

  • us version is more cheery while the uk version is more depressive

  • Its supposed to be depressive you idiot. Yanks done get it. They should leave things as they are. (ie funny)

  • oo! i didn't know that captain obvious..

  • great come back. really.

  • thats what she said.

  • touche

  • i do not understand what that means..lol

  • nvm i get it!!

  • I'm not going to join the debate over which is bettr because as so many have pointed out you can't change someones opinion by typing an angry comment on a youtube vid. But I do have a question. Why don't American networks just show British shows rather than remaking them?? The Office, The IT Crowd, Gavin and Stacey now apparently...

Also, don't you think having the actors names in the credits sorta ruins the whole docu-style/mockumentary feel.

  • It all depends on how the opening creds are. The only other British shows I've seen is Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and the Ninth Doctor Doctor Who and they only credited the writer from on the former. I'm guessing the latter is a special case because its a revival.

  • Yeah, I totally agree! The IT Crowd? I love the original The IT Crowd! I didn't know they were remaking it...

  • that's what she said

  • As the actress said to the bishop.

  • Deffo... The Office UK is a thinking-man's comedy, dry humour which I think is the best kind. The Office US is obvious, in-your-face and frankly not funny! That's my personal opinion.

  • First season of the The Office US wasn't funny, but after that... oh boy, and it gets more crazy every time XD

  • This whole BBC Office vs. NBC Office is so old and tired. Both shows are incredibly popular and funny. It's not as if you're going to be able to convince somebody to quit watching a show they enjoy watching simply because "lol u yanks don't have good humour" or "whatever the uk is depressing blabla."

    Especially over the internet.

Give it a rest. Go watch whatever the fuck you want on TV and stop telling other people what they should and shouldn't enjoy.

  • I like humour, not humor.

    Aluminium! XDDD

  • I like humor not humour

  • it's just not the same with the uk intro music...

  • if you watch the american office, please remember where it came from

  • the american version is just way more upbeat so it's funner to listen to

  • Wow... the U.S. version is so much BETTER!!! Not that I had to listen to this to know that.

  • The whole point of The Office was that it was realistic. So what does the US version open with - "Starring Steve Carell". This really is quite an obvious error, a documentry does not have actors in starring roles. The UK version gets it right on so many levels.

  • The American Office isnt a documentary, it's a "Mockumentary" and it too is realistic and Funnier

  • The first few seasons are much more realistic than the last one. I think the Office has gotten more and more absurd, thus, in my opinion, ruining the show.

Ok, maybe it's not "ruined." It's still funny, just not as funny.

  • I agree.

  • Good point. I noticed that too, I'm suprised Gervais + Merchant let them do it.

  • er... yeh simpsons is funny :|... family guy is funny though... jus saying english comedy is sophisticated. its more intelligent than american comedy,

  • Yeah, Benny Hill and Mr. Bean are really sophisticated.

I know there's more to British comedy than that, but to pretend as if everything made in Britain is so cultured and high-brow is silly.

  • What a great big brain you have.

Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Simpsons, South Park - what unsophisticated shows they are...

I think The Simpsons probably contains more references to highbrow culture than any other show ever produced. The sophistication and brilliance of the show is that it can also appeal to children, and people such as yourself, who won't spot any of the aforementioned references.

(Oh, and I'm British, by the way.)

  • Friends and Will and Grace are the funniest things to come out of the US. But the UK version of The Office... i.e. the ORIGINAL version :) is just on another level to the US version.

  • Clever :-)

  • what?!?! english comedy will always over rule us comedy! us comedy is crap as hell, english office makes u cringe

  • Careful there. There's a lot of garbage British comedy as well. It's not all Fawlty Towers, The Office and Ab Fab.

As for US comedy, don't forget The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Mash, etc. All known throughout the world.

  • By the way, this is a wonderful song and congrats to the makers of The Office and also the US version- masterpiece TV, I have been Affected, and will not forget.

  • It is rather glib to say UK like it bcs its Brit humour" etc. DULL. Any synthesis going on in that brain???

  • They should do this for one episode.

  • Wow, nice. Come check out our sweet office videos when you get the chance.

  • Yeah the UK theme is a little much considering the subject matter...

  • i think i like the US version better coz, well i may be british, but the opening music of the US version rocks and i just find it more funny
