THIS IS FUCKING RETARDED!!! Why isn't there 1 engineer out there who can buil a propper quadruped robot? Shit... I'm working on my thesis right on in mechatronical engineering, I'll show you guys. I'm naming it Quadrupedal Dynamic Robot, from Norway.
before you all decide to shit on it, how about have a read of the article. it doesn't have a military focus and uses DC motors. of course its performance isn't going to be comparable.
comparisons with big dog are greatly exaggerated!
The contrast between the respective countries purpose for creating such a robot is amusing. According to the article, the Chinese simply wanted to create it to be a robotic triceratops for a museum, whereas the Americans wanted Big Dog to help their military carry bags. In the past, the Chinese stumbled upon gunpowder while searching for an elixir of life, while the Europeans promptly weaponized gunpowder for use in increasingly larger guns.
Big dog wouldn't alter its stride for the obstacle, would it? It would just try to recover if it tripped on it.... I think. So comparisons are a little apples:oranges.
It has to be said that sometimes the appearance of the robot's behaviour does not reflect the merit of the design techniques involved or the potential for the development of the implemented system. Superficially judging this project on appearances alone just smacks of short sightedness.
It appears that Frog1 analyzes and calculates where it needs to step to as opposed to big dogs high energy, high power consumption freak out spaz dance.
Both approaches merit development and I imagine future versions of both bots will integrate techniques and ideas from their rivals.
@AgrivatedKillah Wow. Are you that fucking stupid? BigDog was a multimillion dollar project funded by DARPA for the US military and the 2nd gen alone cost $32 million. It was worked on by 3 organizations. This is a project by a prof and his PhD students. No shit it's not going to be half as good as BigDog. And there's dozens of projects like this going on around the world. The fact that it has 4 legs and tries to stabilize itself on different terrains doesn't make it copying.
The people who invented the gun powder are long gone.
Whilst the people who made the big dog are still here.
I hate people who give credit to the current people living in a certain place, just because people who happened to live in the same place invented something.
You hate people like me bexause you didnt re-phrase your post. Anyway, they surpass the US in 2016 economy wise, It will be a matter of time.Anyway, i guarantee big Dog took steps just like this, Give them time.
Oh of course we will still have a higher quality of life, and a higher HDI, it is sad but, on the economic field they are going to surpass us, now even all the international bankers and such are noticing that.
lol made in china

@EuroSon99 SMH FINALLY someone who knows what's up.
Big Dog shits all over this so much it's not even funny.
What''s sad is that BIG DOG was made YEARS ago...smfh china needs some innovators or they'll never come up with anything.

@what77777 If it was any other country doing this I would agree with you.
Chinese are known for copying from military equipment to everything else.

@scarface8999 We'll still have ten times the quality of life and still have a HDI.
The fact they they have a billion people, and they just passed Japan which only has about 127 million people, is sad.
