The revamped version wasn't bad...I liked the new theme mix, and Lisa was def a cutie. :-) In fact, they were set to begin production on a 2nd season under this new format when Ted Knight passed away.
In the fifth season (the final one set at the duplex), they showed the episodes out of order. So the episode where Jackie moved to Italy for a fashion job didn't air until later in the season, even though it was produced earlier. So it seemed like she vanished into thin air, when in actuality they had produced an episode which explained her departure.
@sickandtiredofmorons When this aired originally in 86, it had become the "Ted Knight Show". It confused a lot of people because it was the same characters. For syndication, it became "Too Close For Comfort". And, one of the reasons for that was so people like you (who think they know) wouldn't be confused. This is all fact, if you doubt it, looking it up will be easy enough. Your YouTube name is very funny and ironic! LOL
@DontPAss2JOE Somebody named "Lord Digga" sampled the theme song for a track called "Who You Rollin' With". Needless to say, it's an "Interesting" use of the theme.
This is a good lesson in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Why retool the show and get rid of the girls to boot, especially the latter? Sure, the maid is cute, but it's just not the same, especially with Sara off the show.
I think it had been canceled by ABC and ran in first-run syndication for its final season. Not sure why the Too Close For Comfort title still shows up, as it had changed to The Ted Knight Show for syndication.
@toastietube ... When Ted Knight died after the completion of the first season of the re-vamped format ("The Ted Knight Show") the single season series was added to the syndication package for "Too Close For Comfort" and the opening credits were edited to include the TCFC logo.
I thought during the last stretch of the show (when they ditched the duplex and the daughters) and Henry and Muriel (and Monroe!!!!!!! ugh!) moved because Henry wrote for the paper, the show was changed to The Ted Knight Show (kind of a stupid decision so late in the series run).
@wdc2998 I agree with you.I don't understand why Jackie just vanished into thin air early in the final season when the Rushes still lived at the duplex.Sara with her HOT SEXY TIGHT NO BACK POCKET jeans hung around until the end but she never followed her parents and Monroe to their new place.I could NEVER get enough of Monore always getting on Henry's nerves.I'm sure the fans feel the same way.
The title was changed to "Too Close For Comfort" for syndication purposes. When it aired originally, it was called "The Ted Knight Show". Please, do the proper research, retract YOUR statement & try again.
You are right this was The Ted Knight Show. I remember it back in its original run. It was going to be renewed for a second season, but unfortunately Ted Knight paSSED AWAY.
There was another show Ted had after "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in 1978 also called "The Ted Knight Show" - maybe that's the one you are referring to...
The maid was extremely hot! What I really love about her is, even though she is really hot, she looks pure, innocent, and wholesome--not whorish or slutty. This is my kind of woman.
what's strange to me is when I watched the show in reruns in the late 1980's on the local FOX station it had this same theme but a different opening...this opening was the "Ted Knight Show" opening but with the previous show's name on it, "Too Close For Comfort", as the uploader pointed out...these mid '80s episodes were mixed in with the early '80s episodes in syndication.
I agree, the maid Lisa Antille was hot. The only show I remenber was when Lisa's character was taking a night class and her teacher propositioned her ("He want to sleep with me!")
Being only about 14 at the time, my first thought was 'So do I'
Since this was a family show her character didn't. I don't know how she got the teacher. (Ted Knight might have died before Part 2 was filmed or broadcast. Usually, when an actor dies, they shelve remaining episodes even if they were not broadcast.
I was wondering why the Too Close for Comfort theme. I remember when the Ted Knight show premiered and Ted's subsequent passing. "I hate kids. Even when I was kid I hated me."
He obviously meant gay in the uncool sense (although it's a definition I do not condone; just saying so because it's not like his sexuality would have anything to do with this), due to the nature of the Monroe character. Then again, Jim's not that different in real life.
I like the later versions better, though this is very relaxing. Does anyone know what happened to the other verions on YouTube? I can't seemed to find them

@wdc2998 Because, like Bill Daily did years earlier, and Jaleel White would do years later, Jim J. stole the show. He became the breakout character.

Too Close for Comfort is my all-time favorite show.
I love it to this day.
The original show with the two daughters living downstairs was by far the best.
God bless Ted Knight.
He was a genius.

Johnny Mandel was the composer. His most famous music was the theme to M*A*S*H "Suicide Is Painless" (both movie and TV versions)
