I like the fact that Shane Ritchie admired the original Minder series but I really can't see why this was done.  George Cole and Dennis Waterman was fantastic, George Cole and Gary Webster was still good but this doesn't come close.

Its not supposed to be a remake of the classic series of MINDER but more, the next generation set in the modern day. Shane Richie's character is releated to Arthur! Not an exact replica of the character, just related by blood. Quit hating on it by saying "Arthur aint like that!" or "This show sucks compared to the original" because that isnt fair. TRUE that the original will always be better, but this show isnt completly crap. Its just a show that got continued in the modern day

Hmm, it's October 2010 and I've just discovered they tried to remake Minder in Feb? Why was I not informed (I'm Australian) Yeah I have to say this doesn't look that flash for some reason. I don't know what it is, maybe the fact thye're trying to speed up something that had it's own nice pace in the original. Was this the guys that did Hustle that remade this? Certainly looks that style.

I think the new series is brilliant. I love the original from 1979 to 1994 but don't try to judge this as a replacement / continuation of the original, It isn't, it's different but still great televeision (especially as most other recent stuff is crap). Give these 2 characters a break.

Well the original series was pretty crap. Like most good idea at first, but went on waaaaay tooo long, Terrie ceased to be a credible hard man long before the series ended.

Series like this have to catch the moment, and the moment in the seventies was that a low life minor criminal could get buy with a ex boxer hard man.

These days it's just not credible unless Arfur is dealing drugs and Terry is tooled up big time.

However, it's not as if it's alone in the crap revival stakes...the new Doctor Who is horrible too, but then again, that's another series that over stayed its welcome. Ditto "Only Fools", which ran for about 6 series too many & spawned the utterly unfunny "Green Green Grass". Then there's "Auf Wiedersehen Pet", a brilliant first series, pretty good second...then foolishly revived.

the fact is, the original series, as any fan will tell you, ran out of steam in the last 2 Waterman era series, it became tired & predictable & full of annoying guest appearances by over familiar actors. The spin offs like "on the orient express" were poor. Then you either like the Ray Daley years or you don't...I don't.

In fact I watched some vintage Minder recently & it was pretty unconvincing to be honest...& I'm a fan.

It should be called Minder: The Next Generation. It isn't Minder because George Cole or Dennis Waterman isn't in it.. I hope it is a success, because the original Minder was a great programme, but Shane Richie is not in the same league as George Cole. A shame they didn't do any one-off episodes after 1994, with Terry making a comeback and helping Arthur and Ray. But too much time has elapsed, so the show needed to be revamped.
