Cecilia is definitely one of my favorites. Whether i like her facial expression or not, her singing always touches me more. Ceclilia is a very confidant singer and she is 100% comfortable with her technique. My only wish is to see her live, doesn't matter where...!
@briannadominique13 um i know all about expression i'm a vocal performance major. I bet you don't even know what this song is about, and i bet your going to try and prove me wrong by looking it up right now and sending it to me. I have my own opinion about Bartoli and so do you. you dont have to criticize me just because i am not a fan.
You are right in the fact that you have the right to your own opinion, but don't think that because you're a vocal performance major you know all about expression. If you feel the need to mention your education in your critique of her performance, you're grasping at straws and trying to validate your opinion not by what you see, but by the fact that you have some "superior knowledge"
P.S. you're not the only one with a degree in music...me too.
@musicmuse202 I wasn't saying that I am right about what i said BECAUSE i am a vocal major, I was saying that in defense to someone who tried to tell me I know nothing about singing. Thats the only reason i mentioned my education. I was a bit immature as it was a long time ago when i left the comment "her face bugs me" or whatever i said. I know what the song is about and yes i am entitled to my own opinion on her use of expression. my opinion is that its a little over the top.
moto di gioia =the lovely word? heresay idiom for the good mews - its an extra from mozart's Le Nozze Di Figaro - Susanna talks to Duchess, calming her - non siempre tirano il fato e'd amor!-the ways of love are not always suffering- soon we will be happy in our hearts with those who we love and smth like that - no too strong in italian (actually, i'm russian)
It's only a B, she could do it easily I think. It's no higher than Non più mesta. Also, there is an unusually low coloratura variation, a bit on the low side for a soprano, and there she would really show them! But as you say, she's a mezzo and that may account for her versions of some soprano arias being a bit different... And I still think she's amazing!
her voice is absolutely amazing. even for a mezzo soprano her higher register is amazing. in my opinion of the greatest female opera singers alive, along with Diana Damrau and Renee Fleming. and i love this song it is perfect along with the opera that its in is also perfect.
Someone sujested that I should sing this for a high school audition. Yeah as if I could ever do this O_O

So expressive! It's nice to see that not all opera singers have forgotten that there is acting involved too!

Un moto di gioia A rush of joy
mi sento nel petto, I feel in my chest
che annunzia diletto, which heralds delight
in mezzo il timor! amid fear.
Speriam che in contento I hope that his joy
finisca l'affanno will end anxiety,
non sempre è tiranno Not always love
il fato ed amor and fate are a tyrant

Wonderful rendition. I love how she tinkers it just enough to make it her own but still manages to respect the original composition.
