  • Wow, it´s very touching and emotional!!

  • wao this is so wonderful...thumbs up and playlist ...

  • Great performance, what a great music lover. She really loves music. Btw whats the vocal sounding sound at 5:13?

  • @UncleRob199 Hiromi talks to the piano a lot. In all of her tracks you can hear breathing, or saying "hai" (Japanese for yes) when she hits a note she likes, etc.

  • @UncleRob199 That particular breath sounded like "un," another (informal) version of yes in Japanese.

  • why is she crying?

  • @meliYz This song obviously has a lot of meaning to her

  • @meliYz Why not cry when you've created something so god damn beautiful....

  • my god

  • breathless... speechless.... pure joy.

  • MUSIC'S…Gift to God.

  • it's touching jazz with some passion

  • The solo! THE solo!!

  • Was it that she performed in Georgia(not in the US, but in the former Russia) ? In her diary she wrote about the experience that she could not say enough words as she cried for being so impressed, and she played(with crying like this video) this Place to be as the last piece of that concert in Georgia...

  • Just beautiful! I have to go to her concert and watch her performing with my eyes directly.

  • Seriously, where is that LOVE button???

  • The amount of herself she pours into her music... has always shocked me. Every single note has such an insane amount of humanity and her body is just one with the music. Anyone else notice the thelonious monk foot around 4:55? Just... this is the closest thing to perfection anyone I will probably ever witness. How unfortunate that it's through a screen and speakers...

  • love and affection

  • Just beautiful and makes me cry.

  • I saw this live, and the way her performance touched me was just indescribable.

  • One of the most beautiful pieces ever written for Piano. Hiromi is like ...musical ecstasy.. Rylynn!

  • Such pure beauty

  • beautiful, words cant describe.

  • I love this song. Kind of makes me think of a jazzy Gymnopédie No.1. Such genius and such passion.

  • @AureliusMonk Totally. I definitely hear echos of Satie in there.

  • no words...sublyme

  • thank you!!!!!!

  • oh hey Hiromi let's get married sometime? cool? cool.

  • she's so...human.

  • 33 condoms failed...

  • ....I just found her at random....i'm glad i found her....

  • There is a nujabes style instrumental with this sample.. which is amazing.. Search up "Cayabyab - Departure"

  • i love how the great pianist playing the beautiful music to the crying, much better is if the pianist what is playing this song is crying, i never saw someone what crying whithout playing. i think the best jazz pianist from japan HIROMI UEHARA and LANG LANG MADE 33 ACCOUNTS TO DISLIKE THIS VIDEO :D

  • God bless you! I would marry you!

  • This is so incredible, she goes amongst another level. 2:21 - 2:31 touched my soul.

  • 3.min (stolen) at Bulutsuzluk özlemi-sözlerimi geri alamam

  • 全く鍵盤見てないね!人間技じゃないよ。

  • やばい!凄い!

  • No Description Available!!!

  • @DrunkenMaster61 - As shown at the beginning of the video, this was the concert held at Tokyo International Forum on 28 December 2008.

  • @hiroatkobe Yea what I meant was there are no words for describing this performance because it is so good. 言葉じゃない。

  • A little piece of heaven here on earth. Oh, what joy. And what beautiful piano too.

  • And to think we only use 10 percent of our brains true potential... I absolutely love this woman and her music. thanks for the post

  • @jonathanguitar27 false theory but whatever

  • @masterofbombs2 its not necessarily true but we are not able to access all of our brains true potential at one time and either way it was a statement applauding her musical talent. I enjoyed the song and Im sure you did as well.

  • @jonathanguitar27 finally someone who doesn't profanely lash out at me for making a cynical comment. thank you

  • @jonathanguitar27 retard

  • If ya like jazz performance, check out Yoko Miwa, and kobe by takashi.

  • O my God...sometimes we forget what humans are capable of..

  • i would like to play this too.feeling the music with tears touches the soul .

  • shit

  • Perfect

  • Your are exquisite in this piece, Hiromi. I love you! You're a wonder!

  • Comment removed

  • @DS42296 Wow... What a great way to view music. You stay narrow minded my friend.

  • she truly touched my heart..... her melodies are sweet yet skillful.... and her heart and soul make the music so much deeper and meaningful...

  • such flawless technique!!!

    She is amazing!!!!

  • wow! this is beautifull!! how can she do that?? amazing!

  • WHAT ALBUM IS THIS ON?

  • @TeachMetheUnknown The album is titled "Place to Be," the same as the title of the piece.

  • @danmicahtsai Thank You!

  • my brother recommended this to me. and before i knew what was happening, there were tears in my eyes...truly beautiful.

  • Oscar Peterson has reincarnated in Japan? She is amaaazing!

  • @Barblim While I agree that much of her intensity is displayed through her face and body language, I cannot understand your dislike for her music...

  • Comment removed

  • @Barblim How was her music not intense? And what does a facial expression matter? As long as her way of being doesn't affect the music.

  • @Barblim Dude so stay with the music in Portugal....don't criticize the beautiful music that Hiromi puts her heart and soul into....

  • @Barblim You naughty little troll...

  • Just beautiful, she s just a genius. I saw her in Marciac with trio project, it was amazing. We were about 6000 people, but when she played solo i was alone with her.

    Go see her in live!!!!

  • Idunno why.. but everytime I hear this song, and trust me i've played it a bunch of times... I always think about being next to someone's death bed, and them asking as to whether or not I have anywhere else to be... and of course, the answer to that's obvious. But the song just has that moment of emotion to it. the sad, and almost regretful, but glad to be there for those last moments.

I'm pretty sure thats not what the songs about, but it always feels that way to me

  • @theredwind

I read somewhere this song is a tribute to one her mentor's, Oscar Peterson, who had just passed away recently before this performance. She had listened and studied his music since she was a young child.

  • I can't stop to play her video on youtube. I saw her the 29th of July in Italy. MERAVIGLIOSA!!!!

  • This is like warm air flowing... so calming my CPU even slowed down for the whole duration!!

  • 27 people have no soul...

  • WOW, this is so warming! And that place is ABUZZ with applase! This is epic.

  • I just discovered her RIGHT NOW...as in 45 seconds ago, looking for the Place (pu-ra-se) store in Kyushu Japan and I clicked on this just because of how deep the title sounded. I don't know how I went this long without knowing of this -oh yeah that's right, living in a society like the US... less than a minut listening to this and I feel that this is an historic moment in my life...Blessings on your all, and to Hiromi Uehara, arigatougozaimashita!

  • My goodness... Those Chords in the beginning was enough to make me cry.

This is truly beautiful. Why do people even dislike this?

  • @mrbadnut ...jealousy.

  • bear my children, Hiromi.

  • she is one of a kind. when crativity+amotion meet =great music gurney

  • very deeply...no comment,just listen

  • One of the most passionate musicians alive today.

I am so pleased that the SOUL of music lives on.

Without naming specific acts - Pop music is a little soul-less at the moment and I do sincerely hope that things like auto-tune will die as - THIS IS WHAT MUSIC IS ABOUT.

  • ...i wept too on the beginning with Hiromi trust me!!! She is absolutelly GENIUS!!!!

  • @kiahnis

    I wept all the time!

  • I want my soul to gush I'm feeling this so powerfully. I can't even believe how hard this touched me, this is genuinely restoring some vitality to my life. This song is the type of thing that I live for. I can't believe this is happening and I love Hiromi so much for how raw and mastered this is. This is distilled essence, there is nothing i love more than this right now and if i could go on I would, because I am so grateful something can still make me feel this way.

  • @BRICKsauce WOW, I like just how you put that. You should write for a magazine! Just reading the simple text, I know you have a deep soul, that is not common. Keep up the good word paint...

  • @Machetazo1 I really appreciate everything that you said, thank you for your comment

  • @BRICKsauce goddammit shes a piano player who cries when she plays that sounds just like every other piano player on the planet of earth

  • Gosh I want the mp3 ><

  • Oh my God..... just OH MY GOD.....

  • All I can say is see her live...I saw her in a club that seated 120 people. It was 7 years ago. It was like yesterday. She loves Errol Garner and Oscar Peterson. Try Oscars' "Canadia Suite" if you like this quiet song; try Garners "Concert By the Sea" Monterrey Jazz Festival 1955.

  • Her heart is playing this...and feeling this...I am absolutely lost for words....

  • one of the most beatiful song I listening im my life.

  • *tear* I'm so *sniffle* fucking good!

    -Hiromi Uehara

  • @scrippman...you are wasting your time listening to music if you are so shallow.

  • @scrippman Lol haha, she IS a master though...

  • I really love the way this girl feels every note of the piano that she plays. It's amazing. No words.

  • I simply love it!can't put it in words..

  • this shows how emotionally connected she is with what she does...just fantastic! :)

  • brilliant

  • wow....the emotion that's put into her playing is amazing and you can truly tell that her songs come from her heart. the fact that she does what she wants no matter what people may think or say about hr is completely inspiring and i think everyone should have that kind of attitude to not be afraid of what people think and do what they think shows the world who they are, for Hiromi that's music...

  • 25 people don't know what is real music played by a genius

  • @gioboxer 1 person doesn't know that we don't make useless comments about the dislike bar anymore...

  • @ChungFat4eva

1 person losing time to reply to me..........for nothing

  • Impressive execution and feeling!!! This girl is a gem for jazz music!!

  • However we may interpret the message behind the notes, the transitions, the phrasing, the nuances, all of these things together makes the poignant effervescence of this piece like breathing for the soul to its listeners

  • absolutely heavenly!

  • I'm in love!

  • i was like hmm... might see if i can get the sheet music for this. then i carried on listening..

  • Ahh, this is amazing. The one where she duets with Chick Corea is better though! Actually more like just as amazing. SO GOOD! AHHH!

  • if i dun look at the video and just listen to the music, it's really amazing

  • I've always loved Piano. People like this remind me why.

  • fake or not. its passion.

to play so epicly you want to fake it.

to play so epicly that you don't need to fake it.

  • now that's pure passion.

  • omFG

  • good acting

  • wow amazing

  • @ardenBcho Just like you! =)

  • @ardenBcho so are you >< im happy that you appreciate this music too =DD

  • Hiromi is very nice....

  • I don't like how at certain points, the static of my computer is louder than the video itself.

But it's by that that you can tell she has complete control of what she does.

  • @Allmusic08 It's ok, you're allowed to be dead inside. We forgive you.

  • I was looking for the Nick Drake song 'Place To Be' and came across this video, absolutely beautiful playing riddled with emotion here, amazing.

  • I GUESS PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP!!!! PEOPLE ARE SO ILLITERATE....KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING...She puts so much soul into this piece.......it's awesome

  • I GUESS PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHEN TO SHUT UP!!!! PEOPLE ARE SO ILLITERATE....KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ANYTHING

  • Oh.. Hiromi..I love you:-)

    Thanks Carlos !!

  • Divina!

  • Pure hearted musician!

  • @Allmusic08 Maybe she'd heard that Peterson had just died.

  • @Allmusic08 you dont know nothing about art and the artists. this is sure. you are only a freak of some artists and you think you know something about music, but if you cant understand why she is crying and smiling while she is playing the piano, like many people here listening that, you dont understand NOTHING. if you are a musician I feel so sad for you...the music for herself is nothing without the player. this woman can do what she wants...

  • @jimmynuto dude. if she can do whatever she wants, why can't this guy do what he wants and state his opinion? We are all entitled to our own opinions.

And really? Music's only as emotional as you perceive it. So comments such as "you know nothing about the arts" and such make you the one that looks stupid.

  • @jin722 if you perceive this music like this guy you are not human. this can be an endless cicle if i say the same, if this guy can say whatever he wants, why cant I say what i want? I heard the music wich this guy mentioned, from peterson, and,for me, was soporific, but I dont wrote nothing negative, because dont deserve. this is the problem, the TROLLS like this guy, and, by extension you, write whatever you want, without sense, only for trolling.

Im an stupid, but my comment, so far, is visible.

  • @jimmynuto i dont understand your logic, since i am not a "troll" as my comment was not a cause to spark an argument, and did i say you couldn't state your opinion? and half your comment doesn't make sense, please write your intention clearer next time. and if your so good at perceiving music, I guess i can't do anything about it. I'd rather not have an argument over a stupid reason like a video on youtube, so goodbye.

  • @jin722 if you don't want a discussion, for the next time don't write opinions only for make hurt, because this opinion have effect in the rest of the people. you aren't alone here, man. the word is RESPECT.

and sorry for my English, is not my language and I'm doing a big effort. yes, is not enough, but, at least is constructive.

and thank you for stop this.

  • @Allmusic08 damn everyone is right...you don't know a thing about music.....illiterate....it's not worth it...i'll save my breath

  • @Allmusic08 n00b

  • @Allmusic08 i feel sorry for you man...your stupidity makes me cry

  • @00s00m Yes, I am still young. Undoubtly, she plays really awesome. Lots of imagination. I don't have to talk about the music anymore since it has been in high quality. Then, as a fan I hope that fakeness doesn't ruin her quality. Perhaps you must be a very sentimental person...

  • @Manuel17jccj Well, she made ME cry real tears. So, I doubt her's were 'fake.' Interesting, though, that you would choose to focus on the authenticity of her tears rather than on her music. To play like that, one can't be involved in thinking about how their tears are appearing to others. Perhaps you are very young...

  • The beauty of life changing faster than we would like to, but giving us more than we can accept in one take...all that encompassed in one song...that I call a masterpiece!

  • The mood of this song, while deeper, reminds me a little of "Ashokan Farewell," the theme used for Ken Burns's Civil War shown on PBS.

  • Hi Hiromi, ..

I am also a talented piano-improvisateur.. but I really have to bow and fall on my knees, if listening to your amazing style, and you are so independent .. from any musical way of impression, because you know them all.

You have to meet Lyle Mays, I guess, . who is the greatest master of lyrical jazz-impressions to me .. and also made me cry so often, .. same like you do it to me now .. (weaping) ..

Sorry for my sentiment, but isn't it coming from angels all?

  • Честно и филигранно...

  • very intense performance! hiromi is just one of a kind! :)

  • 暗いサティーだ!!!この曲大好き!

  • サティーみたいでGOOD

  • Sorry, I wrote))

  • Excuse me, what concert is it?

  • @tkeela625 im sure your dad is in a good place, looking down very proud. and you're right Oscar Peterson was a big influence on her.

  • 22 people are jealous that they can not play like her

  • @tkeela625 no the song isnt about that. but i had no idea about that crying fact. thanks for sharing that. she got the title from her always traveling. she lived in boston for 5 years, shes stayed, in ny, ct, japan, and shes constantly on the road. she never has stability but the only place she feels at home is when shes on the piano performing. thats her place to be. thats why she named the song and her album that

  • this is fantastic!!!

  • 魂に訴えかけてくる凄さがある・・・・・

  • この曲と、彼女は何を語り合いながら演奏しているのだろう?

  • it's a beautiful song ..

  • Dedicated to Oscar Peterson

  • who doesn't like this video; obviously these people are jealous :(
