Anakin tried to save both Palpatine and Mace Windu by cutting off Mace's arm to prevent him from killing Palpatine. He wanted to keep Palpatine alive because he wanted to save his wife and force the Chancellor to stand trial. However, he was so disheartened after killing Mace that he decided that the Jedi would never forgive him so he joined Palpatine and desroyed the Jedi order. He then planed on killing Palpatine and claiming the galaxy for himself but did not because Padme was dead.

poor anikin. you know if u look at it this way anikin is still a good guy because first of all he killed childeren in order to save his wife.( which is still a dick move ) but only did so because when anikin killed mace windo ( i know he only cut off his arm but he led to killing him.) he was so ashamed that his mind became weak and palpatine took that chance to hypnotize him thus leading to ankins downfall.

@TheNinjaofawesomness Nobody should say "Poor Anakin". That is a cop out. True he started so he could save his wife from death but it led to a thirst for more power. Anakin decided his own fate when he chose to join Palpatine regardless of his initial motives. He does get the chance to redeem himself in the eyes of his son but one act cannot erase all the wrong he did. It is a good start but IMO he has so much to make up for. Plus Palpatine didn't hypnotize him, he promised him more power.

No he became so blinded by anger and power that he went abit crazy and he wanted to take over the galexey once he killed obi wan he was gonna kill sidious and claim the galexy for himself but after padme died he was too angry to do anything and knew it was to late to go back so he stayed with the sith and how he got so twisted coz hes too full of hate to go back to the light side at that point
