  • hi all - i'm the fellow who wrote this song (soltero). there's a new soltero album coming out soon, and you'll be able to find info on it at my page, facebook dot com slash soltero. thank you! tim

  • @ciencordobas I'm a big fan. I'm definitely looking forward to the new album!

  • THIS IS ART

  • @gloriawins you are correct

  • God Bless Gomer. God Bless Sgt. Carter. God Bless our beloved Corps.

  • Jim Nabors was NOT Communist when he defected (as Gomer Pyle,USMC); he was just ahead of his time. His macadamia farm near Haiphong is one of the top producers of snack-nuts in the world.

  • All I can think when I see think when I watch the Gomer Pyle show was "Don't ask, don't tell." Gomer is obviously gay on the show. And Sgt. Carter is obviously feeling something for Gomer even though he doesn't admit it.

  • the TENSION

  • this is amazing... the editing is excellent!

  • I bet Tom Hanks as Forest Gump was a little influenced by the stupid innocents of Gomer Pyle.

Maybe I am wrong.. I just feel there is a similarity.

  • shayune : you are deranged & need professional help.

  • What in heaven's name is the audio on this thing? The guy sounds stoned.

  • No, Gomer is not a homosexual.

Neither is Jim Nabors, the man who portrayed him.

Mr. Nabors now owns a Macadamia Nut Plantation in the State of Hawaii, where he lives happily with his obviously female wife.

Mr. Nabors also is still a professional singer with a voice bordering on operatic. His most recent recording is a Gospel CD. His character voice as "Gomer Pyle" belies his real vocal talent.

  • You're absolutely right. We used to have a next door neighbor who lived down the street from the Nabors' when Jim was still living with his parents in Alabama. He said Jim dated girls and was just an ordinary teenager. He said Jim's dad was a city cop and they were just regular middle class folks. He also said that although Jim had a terrific sense of humor, nobody expected him to become a celebrity.

  • cardonaedgardo,

The issue doesn't center on the sexual preferences of Gomer or Jim Nabors who portrayed him. Just here for any of us is this big goofy guy with a love and persistence that beats any dog. Even when he gets kicked away in the worst way possible, he still comes back with that unbeatable grin and good heart. I would certainly offer Gomer my home and hearth, and I would be honored if he shared them.

    Lune

  • We used to live next door to an old man named Charlie Rew, who once lived down the street from the Nabors' in Alabama. Jim was in his late teens or early '20s according to Charlie and he said he remembers Jim having girlfriends and just being an ordinary kid.

  • gomer pyle rock...

    hail from Norway

  • Gomer was not gay, but Jim Nabors was!

  • No, Gomer is not gay. He was writing those letters to his sergeant to make him feel better since Sergeant Carter wasn't getting any letters from girls. If you haven't watched the episode, you should. It's hilarious!

  • That's true because later on Gomer started dating this really cute gal named Lou Ann Poovie. She looked great but was a terrible singer.....LOL

  • Was Lou Ann Poovie trying to sing popular songs of 12 tone opera?

  • LOL....I don't know, but Gomer should have tried to give her singing lessons. Lou Ann was really pretty, but she sang like a rusty hinge.

  • ...even though Gormer got her a job as a salesperson in a record store (in which a customer asks her to sing "When The Red, Red Robin Comes Bobbin' Along" (which Jim Nabors sang, but was omitted from the D,V,D, due to legal reasons).

  • I remember that episode. Isn't that the one where Lou Ann gets mad at Gomer because Sgt. Carter had gotten her a tryout with some record company and Duke had gotten her a job at a radio station while Gomer got her the job at the record store? In the end, she realizes that Gomer was right about getting her the record store job.

  • Lou Ann Poovie was his girlfriend, although her old boyfriend Monroe Efert often came back to compete with Gomer for her affections.

  • That was great, thanks for posting it. VERY well done!

  • I got a question....is Gomer gay?

  • This epsoide was about Gomer writing letters to Carter thinking that a unknown woman was sending them to him to cheer hime up after he broke up with his girlfriend.

  • Ironically, the elderly gentleman seen with Gomer in the library previously played a bank guard on "The Andy Griffith Show"!

  • Who was named Asa if I recall, which was on the episode where Barney tried to improve the security of the Mayberry bank

  • I remember he was on quite a few episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. Just last week he was in an episode where Barney needed to gain weight and grow an inch or so taller and he had this contraption that Barney put around his neck and then hung himself to try to stretch so he'd be taller.

  • Strangely enough, Barney was one of the few characters from "The Andy Griffith Show" who didn't crossover to an episode of "Gomer Pyle - U.S.M.C.". Imagaine what would've happened if Barney came face to face with Sgt. Carter!

  • That would have been a hoot. LOL I got a kick out of the episodes where Aunt Bee got into it with Sgt. Carter, and I was touched by the one where Sgt. Carter tried to convince Andy to take it easy on Opie after Opie had run away. And the one where Goober wanted to see what the marines was like was pretty funny too.

  • goaaalay! i just love gomer pyle!

  • ☭★

  • Google the name "Frank Worthen"!

  • I like the song. Their relationship is just like J.D and Dr Cox on Scrubs and Carl and Steve from Family Matters. As well as other duos from other shows. Gomer truly loved and respected sgt carter. No matter how much sgt carter yelled at Gomer, deep down he liked him as a person.

  • If they were a couple, wouldn't they make great neighbors?

  • Sure. Jim is already a Nabors.

  • nice

  • Great vid! :D I never thought about them this way. Dx

I really love the song, but I can't find it anywhere! Would it trouble you much to send it to me? I would be forever grateful. *bows*

  • I'm afraid I got it on iTunes, so I can't send it to you... Do you have iTunes? Just look up communist love song by Soltero.

  • Rabble rabble rabble rabble!!!! This will not stand! Such ungodliness is shameful to such an iconic figure of masculinity in the media. I say again, rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble. And finally, FIE!!!

  • I hear Jim Nabors is/was gay. Hope that doesn't upset you too much, it didn't upset him much.

  • wait, to hell with the commie rat basturds. i musta missed something here

  • Eh?

  • I just got started on my Gomer Pyle, episodes, my boyfriend likes Andy, and i said, let`s get some Gomer.... We have not stopped watching yet...... thanx-for the clip....

  • SHAZAMM!!! It's Brokeback Barracks!

  • Yes, SHAZAYUM, Sargint Carter! I guess a similar video could be done about Gilligan and the Skipper on Gilligan's Island

  • Funny? How? It's stupid.

  • I love this song! I can't seem to find it anywhere though=(

  • dude, i love soltero. and this is hands down one of their best songs.

    great video. great, great video.

  • Yes, I read this and that other message. I shall continue this discussion privately.

  • After rumors circulated that they were "dating" they broke off the friendship, for fear that people would assume that they were gay. Hudson turned out to be gay. Nabors sexual orientation(as I said before) is not known. He may well be a virgin. As he has never spoken AGAINST gay rights, I do not feel it is appropriate to make videos of this nature. I would recommend taking this video down, to be fair to Jim Nabors. Sutton, of course was DEFINITELY heterosexual.

  • 500 characters insufficient. I have my own take on this. However, I do not feel this video is appropriate. It is my guess that this was made under the assumption that Jim Nabors is gay. The creator of this video does not know this. Nabors has not publicly spoken on the issue of gay rights and has not come out of the closet. His sexual orientation is not known. It is clear that he does not want to be known as "gay" however. He was friends with Rock Hudson at one time, but after rumors

  • Very funny, but all these people that think Jim Nabors was queer are wrong. He was as straight as you or I.

  • Very Funny! LOL

  • I think that personally as much as you were trying to make this a "nice little old film'..Frank sutton was a straight dude married to a woman and they had kids..and he was good friends with Jim Nabors, but, NOT in the ways that you suggest here...They were just good friends!! That's all and that's it!!

  • everyone who pulls a gomer can end this war by their own defeat.

  • Love this video! I never thought of it before but if either character had been a woman, we'd have felt sexual tension all over this series. Because it was 2 men in the 60's we just assumed it was platonic love.

Maybe it was, but this video sure gives you two ways to look it. Amazing.

  • Well, it was the 60's. I defy you to find a TV show from the 60's that isn't ridiculous. ;)

(Also, since Jim Nabors hasn't ever actually had a recorded romantic relationship with anyone in his entire life, it might be a little difficult to prove that he's gay. Of course, whether he is or isn't gay doesn't matter to me personally. But it's always better to know for sure before you say anything, in this sometimes unforgiving society.)

  • JIm Nabors really was gay and the played a US Marine during the Vietnam war to lighten up the public image of a brutal war- Pyle wouldn't even make it in the boyscouts nevermind the Marines. Perhaps it was a strategy to get naive half witted fruity men to enlist that would be used as cannon fodder. It sure was a ridiculous show.

  • The Vietnam War was NEVER mentioned on "Gomer Pyle - U.S.M.C.", though in one episode they got is when Sgt, Carter threatened to send Pyle to the Aleutians!

  • No they likely never mentioned Vietnam, however it most certainly was the elephant in the room when Gomer

Pyle USMC originally aired in the 60's and 70's. It gave a lighthearted homespun hayseed comedy public relations spin to the US military compared to the harsh brutal reality of the Vietnam War that was happening at the time.

  • now i know why they called that guy from full metal jacket private pyle

  • This is fantastic editing!!!!!

  • Holy crap. Andy Griffith *and* Communist Love Song...I love you.

  • this vid is gud

  • I have no idea what this series about, but the vid is adorable.

  • Gomer from Andy Griffith joins the USMC and is a screw up. he was replaced by GOOBER, his cousin, I think. You need to catch up pn your TV land, lol

  • Ahhh, okay. Now I fell a little less stoopit.

    Good work, like I said.

  • so, being an old hag, what DOES "slash" mean, please - I thought you meant this Was SLash from Guns N Roses singing, DUH... yeah, I'm very low tech, I didnt lnow what 'emo' (ugh, lordy THAT's got to go) till lately either. Please eleaborate. Is this a good band? i like the song.

    THX

  • Slash is a fanfiction term implying a romantic relationship between two characters of the same gender. The term actually originated in the 70s when Kirk/Spock fanfiction was especially popular. The word "slash" comes from the / mark between the characters' names.

  • The band, by the way, is Soltero. And this is actually the only song I know by them.

  • Did you make this? It is great, but what about poor Goober? I much prefer him - come on, get to work, you have found your calling. I'm sure the oil companies would love a montage of goober at the gas atation with Andy packing that huge caliber in those gov't issue Dockers, No????

  • Goodness... I hope making slash fanvids isn't my calling... Still, I suppose there are worse callings to have, no? lol! Hm... Goober you say? And Andy? I can honestly say I never thought of that one. I will certainly look into it.

  • Or..Mr Haney from Green Acres and Eb, Lisa, and Elanor (?) the pig.... Hey, I'm a Ny'er, I just have good memories of these hillbilly shows from being a kid and I laughed my ass off... More than once, more than 10 times..

  • The Sgt and Gomer.. who would've guessed. :)

  • WHO would have guessed? OH..You wuz being funny, now I 'member "arkgslinga"... you know he's a big 'Born Again'.. Is he still alive?

I still like Goober better, lol, what a conversation - HIGH POLITICS! Oh, sorry Elanor was a COW..

  • What about poor Barney? Why do you think he never married?

  • Howard Sprague, they both seemed, well, you know. Poor Howard. What a simpleton, i liked him though. Remember the episode when he tried to make his pad 'cool' with beads on the door and pillows on the floor, bearskin rug and all - lol, I thought that was so funny, and they all danced Andys poor g/f to death almost scary she was the only chick there.

  • "Remember the episode when he tried to make his pad 'cool' with beads on the door "

    LOL yep funny stuff :)

  • Howard Sprague should've done the same thing to himself! Shave off that mustache, for one thing!

  • He finally married Thelma Lou at the end of the television reunion film "Return To Mayberry", though Thelma Lou was either divoreced or widowed, because in the episode where Andy and Barney go to their high school reunion, Thelma Lou introduced Barney to her husband.

  • Forward it to the brass at the USMC, they'll love it........

  • Oh, good suggestion. Maybe I will. lol

  • cold, so cold!! LMFAO!!!!

  • lol

  • Love it, thanks!

  • funny.

  • lol nice job

  • This is a well done video. I love the introduction of the video.
