Don't try this with iPod classic (the new one with the metal faceplate). Really difficult to open. It is designed to NEVER be opened. They must have a special machine at Apple or they might just be cheaper to replace then repair.
Thanks for the video, dude! I have two ipods that aren't working for different reasons so I'm trying to cannibalize one for parts...this helped immensely!
Hey man, many thanks! This is a very clear instruction video. As you say, not for the uncareful, but it's indeed the common sense of the viewer that applies here.
I do have a question though. I understand that you can't reply to everyone but maybe you'll read this. Can I access the audio output (or-whatever-it's-called) easily? Mine's broken, it only gives sound of one earplug, and I don't want to send it to some iPod repair service. So I figured I'd might try to fix it myself, as a last resort.
Anyone ever try putting a battery from one of the newer Ipod 120 GB classic model to this one in the video (5th Generation) 30 GB Ipod? I find the 120 GB battery lasts WAY longer than my 30 GB. Anyone here try ?
Interesting to see the guts of a iPod I would be so scared if mine broke open it has all my books on it as I have low vision iPod is way to have my life my books in my pocket :)
sry but I make videos assuming the viewer, unlike you, has some brains to be taking apart their $200-300 ipod and knows they should be careful, my video's are not made for the dull minded people like you who call me douche bag for trying help others who know that taking apart their ipod has a risk of breaking it if you are not careful. And if you were smart you would have payed close attention to the inside and seen the cables all over. But dull people like you should break it if their that dumb
sry that you don't have the common sense to be gentile and slow when opening delicate electronics. Maybe i would help tell you how to put it back together but being the *douche* I am I guess I won't.
Thanks! Ditched the screwdriver, got a guitar pick, and fixed the center button (wouldn't click anymore, turns out the black thingie underneath had shifted to the far left, shoved that to the center again and it's working like new)
nice one dude, i had trouble opening it because it had never been opened before...i found having 2 guitar plecks helps because you can prise one end up and leave it in then get the other end up too..if that makes sense.
On eBay, it only cost me around $5; it'll probably cost you less than $10 including shipping... I got a red clickwheel for my 60GB iPod video and it now looks like the U2 Special Edition (just the front thought)
OMG soo easy!, I took my ipod video to this apple service center (cuz I dropped it x(,) they told me that some components went off the mainboard and needs to be replaced, $85 for the mainboard plus $40 for installation!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!?, I'll just buy the MB on ebay and install it by myself, thanks for the vid man!
Merci pour l'aide! j'ai échappé mon ipod dans les toilettes et grace a toi, j'ai pus l'ouvrir et le faire secher, et il re fonctionne merci 13500 fois!
dude please help me man please!! i begg u on my ipod classic 80GB it shows the red x...i was listening to some songs and i changed it to a different one and then none of the songs worked for a restarted it and it showed this red x and a clicking noise please help!! my email is trix_yahh@hotmail. c 0 m
thanks mate needed to check the battery connection, obviously opening is self explanatory just needed to double check i wasn't screwing stuff and the battery location info was helpful ;)
I got one from a lost and found. No one had claimed it over two years, so why not? When it died I didn the same thing. Eventually I literally blew it up, lol
you don't have to buy new headphones. you need to buy a new headphone jack for the inside of your ipod. You can easily replace it yourself or have someone do the repair for you. Just google ipod repairs and you'll find a bunch of sites.
lol it sounds like he's just bullshitting his way through this tutorial...I saw another ipod disassembly tutorial that would make you laugh watching this one.
hahahahha thanks for putting in the info about those tiny plastic things. ahhaahha! i felt like a fool then you said it and i was like OH! neat. but now i hope it drys out, i soaked it in an energy drink, i thought it was thirsty too.
Actually that made me turn off my sound. Thought it was another one of those demo videos with screaming *core dubbed over it. Not funny when you are not in the mood.
i have opened my ipod video no probs, need to replace the headphone jack and hold switch. i have the part for it but i dont have a small enough screwdriver to undo the screws.
anyone know what size screwdriver opens the screws to the headphone jack mount? (also the same size as all the other phillips screws on the ipod)
how can I fix the hold button in my 4th gen video ipod?, like you do?, anad also while trying to open my ipod, i feel like its gonna broke, it could brake that easily?
I Have an IPOD question now, and I'm hoping you can help me. When I use my ipod., songs will pause randomly. Then they won't begin playing again. And if you choose a song to listen to, it wont go off of the 0:00 time. no matter what. If i recharge my ipod, it used to work, but now it just charges up and still doesn't play. any advice?
My Ipod stayed in the rain! (stupid) When I connect it to the computer it dose not work the screen is weight just for half a second and commes black again, otherwise i can't switch the ipod on it dose not do anything at all.
could someone help me this is urgent !!! Thanks a lot!!
This video is well put together, however I wouldn't have minded seeing how the screen and hard drive come apart. It took some thinking, but we got it in the end.
This video is exactly what the title says it is, "How to open ipod video!" Nothing more nothing less. Hope that helps.
great job. it really helped me fix the problem with my speakers. whenever i tried to listen, only the left speaker would work and i would have to press the wire in a certain way to get the right one to work. i dont know how to express how well you did on your video because i think its one of the best.
When i opened it theres like a metal screen thing that you just poke around. Its only temporary though, but I tweek it like once every two weeks to keep it working. I found a site on WikiHow. You can just google how to fix an ipod audio jack and its the wiki how one.

Hey earphone-jack is fucked too! But this is the best step-by-step video I've seen so far!!! Oh,..... the guitar pick is awesome, it should be the only tool that should be used to open an I-POD!!!!!!!
In that vid i was using a Dunlop Tortex .60mm, so something around that size should do the job, thats not to say that you could use other objects like a putty knife but you would have to be real careful. Tell me how it goes and good luck!
shit, just cracked my screen :(
Wish i hadn't touched it now, remembering the saying... "if it aint broken, DON'T FIX IT!"

In that vid i was using a Dunlop Tortex .60mm, so something around that size should do the job, thats not to say that you could use other objects like a putty knife but you would have to be real careful. Tell me how it goes and good luck!
