The more I watch Steve, the closer I come to believing that he is the best rock guitarist of all time. He's one of those mega-meticulous players who effortlessly seem to work a million different little nuances into his playing. His playing is so fluid and his technique is flawless. He's always articulate and musical. He's probably the most well-rounded guitarist I've ever seen.
@yoshibreeder I'm not in Vai's music. I don't like him really. But you're true. His technique deserves for being in top 100 of rolling stone. It's not about technique only but also expression. Point for you ;)
Did they hand out triple loaded valium before the show??? Whats with the audience?? If I was a performer, did a song like that, and got that feedback from my supposed fans, I'd wade into them and start ripping heads off.
I have tinitus from playing this song at 10,000 decibels on the stupidly loud sound system i sent myself broke through installing in my car. And I regret none of it. Flying down a good bit of road with this on at maximum volume at 0430 when no-one else is around......
THis is prob my least fav Vai tune. It's SUCH a ripoff of Hot for Teacher. Same shuffle beat, same key, same breakdown with the clean double-stops and he even places it in a classroom setting. just wow. It's as if he said I'll out Eddie by redoing Hot for Teacher and showing people just how much better I am.
@Lolguy88 The pt isn't whether Stevie Vai is better than EVH. The pt was merely that he copied hot for teacher when he could have just written a song w/o copying someone else's stuff. He's too good of a musician to have to do that.
@TruthSurge I dont know if you are bashing vai, but if you listen to the two tracks side by side they are not very similar, and all of vais playing is his own, I do admit they are slightly similar though, i just dont believe vai ripped off EVH.
@darkjoker123321 Tony McAlpine was only in the Live at Astoria concert recording. Dave Weiner, the rhythm guitarist has been in steve vai's band for a while now htough
@greenman381 : Some guy replied to your comment on the rhythm guitarists guitar, he says that it's his own signature model. I just thought I'd tell ya since he didn't attach it to your comment.
@Hertsman50 brain beller would actually wipe the floor with sheehan actually, you should see brain with mike keneally, its the most amazing music you'll ever see!
this track is one of my favorite VAItune, next to tender surrender....VAI really does know how to put yo on your feet and make your hand clap and make your head rhythmically nod in approval and make your eyes filled with wonder...
"Now Stevie... Now don't be nervous honey... Okay? I'm gonna' go in and I'm gonna' introduce you... and then you're gonna' come in... with your guitar... and then you're going to play that nice, nice music you were telling me about..."
When Steve made eye contact with me at the concert, I gave him an 'honorable bow' with my hands together as-if in prayer, he noticed and proceeded to give me show of my life. Steve is a great human-being
After watching Steve Vai videos about 4000 times, I suddenly realized there were other people on stage....how can't you keep your eyes off of this guy playingggggg???
Gotta say, as a drummer I have some MAD respect for Jeremy Colson!!! Just discovered him, didn't have the remotest clue he was the drummer for Steve Vai! Anyone have any info on Jeremy? No Wiki page, I think one deserves to be made! And btw, wish I could have been at this show, must have been epic!
@jrockerdraughn well yeah you're right. You'd think either he or the tech would be lazy and say "PLAY WITH THEM." But then Vai has 1001 guitar necks ready to be fitted to any capable guitar body he has. Just a benefit of being Steve Vai.
@jrockerdraughn In the words of Paul Gilbert: "When you're young you might dream of the giving, but as you get older and achieve more, you begin to realize that it's like a body part. Without it, you will fail."
@ShadowLancer128 In the words of Paul Gilbert: "When you're young you might dream of the giving, but as you get older and achieve more, you begin to realize that it's like a body part. Without it, you will fail."
@ShadowLancer128 But back to my point... It just seems like, since the True Temperament sounds so much better, why go back to the traditional neck? He doesn't have to worry about it being hard to tune them, he's got people to do that. All respect to Steve, but that just doesn't make sense to me personally..
@jrockerdraughn You're correct. Logically it makes no sense. There is no logical reason to switch back. There is an emotional reason. That reason is to use whatever exact equipment which was used in the creation of the piece, thinking that no other equipment might achieve that exact same sound.
@ShadowLancer128 Guys, I mean, it could just be that the hype overpowered the reality. There are more things to take into account that just the tuning aspect. I mean, the bass isn't true tempered, and perhaps he's still working on it. ti can't be easy for a regular person to switch, but for Vai, he'd have to be real comfortable to pull off his live show on a completely new system comfortably. we're talking 35 years of learning a craft one way then having to change. may see it in the future tho:)
For this song (and the other "rock!" type songs) i would rather billy sheehan, but Brian is such a great bassist - his musical ear and little bass flourishes everywhere are amazing - just check out angel food! :D
@piccicacca me too! i miss sheehan, i miss steve's old tone and playing... i think he's gone a bit down in terms of playing and inspiration.. it seems his attention is drawn by composing and orchestras and shit...away from the guitar... when i saw him live in 2005 with the breed it was a fucking blast.... no violins on stage xaxaxa... sheehan and tony macalpine!!! they will be back you ll see
