  • insane man. love the cowbell lol yewww~!

  • dude.. god has gifted u an awesome sense of drum grooves.. enjoy it.. :p and hope d same for me :D

  • why all the drummers i see on youtube have these expensive cymbals that i can't buy????

  • dope

  • dude ur bass sounds epic

  • Nice groove man!

  • 311 snare right there.

  • Very good, mister! Well done!

  • Falls off the beat at 1:28, or adds a measure of 5/4 lol.

    Great groove though.

  • You do play well! I just play for 5 years i hope to have my drum set one day so that i can practice.. but my parents won't alow :/

  • Your drum kit sounds perfect! D:

    What`s the head you use?

  • good man! the funky and the tuning of your Drum were perfect! xD

  • great bass sound

  • I'm loving it! M

  • like the kick drum...

  • very nice man......excellent five from me!!!!!!

  • nice grooves, kit sounds great.

  • i like your toms.

  • sweet playing. was that last fill using double bass?

  • Thanks! Indeed, I had two pedals. I try to do those fills with a single now :)

  • @geekusadrummer

how to play d ride-snare n cowbell-snare part?is it RLRRLRLR?cant seem to get it rite.thnks in advanced..btw,tight n clean stroke you got there..

  • @karjunkz Thanks! Check out my video "Drum Lesson: Funky Ride Cymbal Pattern" I cover that groove in it!

  • @geekusadrummer

Thanks for the video, but you didn't cover that Cowbell groove in the end. Can you please tell me / or anyone who knows it the hand pattern? Is it RLRRLRRL ? Where are the accents?

  • @TripperDipper1 Looks like it's a stripped down version of that ride groove. Just watch that little diddle lick in the end...see if this helps: R R R R R rRLRll. The left hand during the first four eight notes, is doing the left hand side of a paradiddle. All notes ghosted except the backbeats.

  • @geekusadrummer

Thanks a lot for the answer! I really appreciate your effort, but unfortunately I still don't get it xD I don't get where the left-handed strokes are, thus I don't get 16 notes to fill a 4/4 bar with 16th notes. Can you help me again please? :(

  • like your snare

  • man, youre my idol

  • i am envious of your skills XD i wish you could annotate the patterns of your super-cool tom fills in this video :P

  • Sweet! What hi-hat is that?

  • Thanks! It's a 14" K Mastersound

  • That was very enjoyable! Keep up the good work.

  • Good stuff, man! Love your snare sound.

  • ies man...very good you have a big flo...

  • what heads do you use?

  • Here I have a Coated CS on the snare. The mountes toms have Ambassadors and the Floor tom has a Emperor. All ambassadors on the tom bottoms.

  • I like it!

  • hey man what drums are those and what did you do to get that tone from your bass

  • All Maple Pacific LX Regal Royal fade. The kick has both heads tuned a rather medium tightness.

  • i love it man watch my video i go this ride cymbell bell beat of u from a previous video took me ages to pick it up i wish i had the tune of ur drums btw aww my life sucks

  • Fantastic! You've got the flow, man...

  • Iszh Nishe, I like.

  • man thats incredible...i love your style. what is that? 32nd notes at 2:08?

  • Thanks man! Yeah, I think they are 32nd notes. RLFFRLFFRLFFRLFF...

  • is that single foot or double

  • Double at that time. I'm working my way up to using one foot though.

  • yeah man its not hard i just use the toe slide technique for doubles with feet

  • I think theyre technically tripleted 16ths. But its all good!

  • Man, your set sounds great, your drumming is excellent, and Geek U.S.A is a great song. Haha.

  • nice groove man!

  • ur a great drummer man..i like ur kit too.

  • how do you tune that snare love the sound

  • Both heads are pretty tight in this video. Then use lot's of compression in the studio.

  • i bet this dude smokes alot of pot haha

  • nice snare...well tunned..

  • u are awsome dude i love the funk and the way u drum keep up the good work

  • i have a question. your bass drum kick! what type of heads do you have on your kit.

  • im not sure if you mean just the kick or what, but looks like coated ambassadors or coated g2's (or g1's, im not over confident with the g1, g2 malalki) all over, not sure about the bass though.

  • g1's on the mounted toms. And a G2 on the floor tom. They all have clear G1's on the bottoms. The snare have a coated CS w/ a thin brandless head on bottom. I think the batter kick is an Evens EQ2, and the reso is an EQ3. Fairly heavy I guess.

  • . sick sound! very good

  • NICE!!! would u happen to have Marcel Bach as one of ur influences?

  • Thanks. I don't know who that handsome lad is :(

  • ah, well he is a nice groovy studio drummer. u should check him out, Im sure u can learn quite a bit from him.

  • I like the tuning on everything, it give's it a Bob Marley feel. Pretty groovy none the less. touche.

  • great man ! i'm a drummer and i like how you play ! you've a great touch...

are you profesionnal ? or maybe you play drums in order to be a pro, no ?

( scuz my english i'm french)

  • Thanks! I am currently studying to be a professional and plan on living my life as a musician :)

  • well its not far away your friggen rock! :)

  • How big is your highat? It's not a 15, is it?

  • 14"

  • lovin your fills dude

  • dude great snare sound in this vid!

  • those toms are tiny. or is it jus the angle of the camera? how big are they? awesome solo by the way

  • Thanks. They are 8", 10" and 14"

  • ye theyre quite small. they are like bongo drums xD. ye nice work

  • Those are kind of interesting sizes... Most drummers do 10, 12, and then 14 correct? Idk. Very nice drumming, those drums sound fantastic.

  • Sounds great! Don't like the smallest tom though.

  • small toms are sickk!! fusion baby

  • i realize this vid is a bit old, but I like the dynamics in this solo

  • wow, how much did you torque up the small tom??

i love the sound of the other two,

that small tom reminds (almost) of my roto's

  • It's not too tight...Kinda like the others in retrospect. Just above medium tight. I keep it a little bit looser these days.

  • alright, it does look a couple inches smaller (small tom)

but i still want to figure out how to get that sound that you have comming out of the other two, for all of mine. like tone wise, very full, perfect sounds, mine sound like, "sproing" kinda, kinda dumb.

my snare is tuned PERFECTLY to my liking, i threw a blanket in my bass drum and i am content with its sound, its just those damned toms i cant make sound good, especially the floor tom. (my roto's sound fine, but thats different) tips?

  • Well, I can tell you what I do, and you can try it. I tighten the bottom heads just barely so they stay on...and then I tighten them an quarter turn tighter to make sure they don't loosen up and wreak havoc. So the bottoms are pretty relaxed. And the tops...I do the same thing...but I tune them a little bit tighter than the bottoms. Maybe like a full turn tighter than the bottoms. Try and keep each of the lugs in tune with each other, that will help the sound. That's my ratio. Good luck!

  • MASTER!

    Lol

    Nice

  • Wow man, nice job!

    And nice sounding kit!!

    Subcribed

  • GREAT!! I've a question...what drum is it??

    Thanks, and good job!

  • Thanks! Pacific LX.

  • hey what mics r u using on the toms?

  • Shure PG 56

  • i love ya snare dude!

i'm actually more a metal fan,

but i like you and your style

    and your kit, ;)

    keep going,

  • damn man is your snare tuned high? its pimp!

  • god i love the sound of your snare n when you hit the bell on the ride it amazin, im dryin to play this sorta beat. Relly good :) thanks .

    jack.

  • Thanks man! Have you seen my funky ride cymbal pattern lesson?

  • no but ill look now, thanks :)

  • hey man nice job! sounds good

  • wow you play so good im so jealous. im starting to learn how to play funk. any books or anything that could help me play funk?

  • Thank man. Indeed! Check out Rick Latham's Advanced Funk Studies. Then you can check out some books by David Garebaldi. Make sure you can play it in good time to a metronome, and then make sure you can play it in good time without a metronome. Stress your dynamics ie accents loud, ghost notes soft. And you will be in business!

  • Dude, I'm really digging your drumming.

it's always been a little harder for me being that I'm an open handed drummer. That means I play open handed with my left hand on the hi hat as opposed to playing with your right han on the hi hat. btw dude, how old are you?

  • Thanks man! I am 22. And I think open handed playing is great. It allows the right hand to be more free. I am spending a fair amount of time playing with my left hand so that I can become more ambidextrous so I can have the advantages that openhanded players have.

  • Hows playing open handed make it harder?

  • Very nice man. For everyone sayign loosen up the toms, while I do agree that perhaps you should lossen them up for other stuff, I think for this style, the high 10" sounds great. Very funky indeed.

  • thank man! This works pretty sweet for funk, reggae, latin, and jazz.

  • Hey you should loosen up your toms

I have the same set and i find that they sound better when they are loose.

How do i get my snare to sound like yours?

my snare doesnt sound near as good.

  • I think I've loosened the toms a tad since this video. And the snare in the video is pretty tight. Crank the batter pretty tight, and crank the reso slightly till you get a good response from it. Hit off center with stick for a more open funkay sound.

  • Damn 4 years? I've been playing about 8 and you're better. :P What kit is that?

  • Pacific LX

  • youre rlly good!!!! im gunna start drumming very soon actually...i can play a little lol =]

  • great job! what is the fill you play at 1:24?

    is it 32nd notes? Thanks!

  • Thanks! 32nd notes indeed...Mike Portnoy style. Four in the hands and two on the feet, and repeat!

  • the Parradidle grove I got Its the next one when

you start on the cow bell 1:44 I wish you could explain the pattern please

  • Love It!

Can you explain the C Bell groove? please

  • Check out my videos "Funky Ride Cymbal Pattern" Is that what your looking for?

  • wow, what kit is it?

  • i like how you lit yourself up.

the light is really harsh. try pointing it at the wall and have it reflect of that.

but anyways, the drumming is good

  • man i see alot of shit drummers on youtube and you are fucking heaps good man! It's nice to see! im interested to see what you think of my playing. search "inbedlam heartbeat". thanks dude!

  • you rocks!

  • he should play reggae..perfect set for it

  • i love the sound of your toms mate!! dam im subscribing! im really into the whole real down tuned sound of drums.. but for me your high tuned drums kick ass!

  • Those toms sound weird! Not bad, just different..

  • great drumming, man!

  • how did you tuned your toms? are you using muffs there? i like the sounds of it ^_^ is the bottom head tighter than the top?

  • Bottom heads are looser I think. The top heads are medium or maybe a bit tighter than medium.

  • Thanks dude! My kit is a Pearl EXR in Strata Red color but I've had it for 2 and a half years now and I'm sellin it cuz I want a Tama Starclassic or a DW, but those are really expensive hehehe :(

  • Love that snare!

  • Mad Mad Guy big up !!

  • snare is killing me :)

  • cette caisse-claire est insupportable!!!!!

  • Wow dude that was awesome! Your floor tom doesn't sound in tune though

  • hey dude how do u tune your bass drum to sound like that?? I've been tunign mine for days and I can't get that sound, could you help eme out, I want it to sound dry and punchy

  • Both heads are at a pretty medium tension. I have a Evans EQ Pad in it, and a piece of styrofoam on top of that to help focus the sound. I suggest starting with both heads just past finger tight, and slowly tuning it up after playing it for a few minutes so you can hear the different sounds your kick can have. Good luck with it! What kind of kit is it?

  • Hey dude ! nice videos, you play real good, you give us nice tips , and nice ideas to play !

thankz a lot dude ! stay drummin'

  • well i had i didnt have trouble hearing it, i just think its cool !! how do you it do you just just have a loose griP?

  • Ahhh. Well, I think the doubles in this particular video are still a bit choked and don't come out as crisp as they ought to. But the idea here is to get really articulate notes, and one way to do that is to grip the stick with your pinky and ring finger, instead of middle and pointer. This grip gives notes a lot more definition. Otherwise, just lots of practice refining technique.

  • ahh! thanks, ill try it ! cheers

  • How do you do that at 1:05?

  • Double stroke on the hi-hat, followed by single strokes. Is that that part you were having trouble hearing?

  • love it man just love it! i got the same kit only in a LX not a CX edition my neighboor however has the exact kit same finish and all and hes pretty much the reason i bought mine. beutiful kit.

anyway could u please tell me all about ur kick drum i jsut dig the meaty as bassy sound it has. could u tell me all ie beater, skins etc.

    cheers from New Zealand!

  • Thanks man! As far as I can remember...the reso head is a single ply, with a small reso hole in it. The batter is a two ply I believe. both are tuned to a medium tightness. And inside I have a piece of foam lining the bottom to absorb some of the boom, which help to focus the sound.

  • You are talented and have good style-the problem is your sound. With a better kit, you could be much more of a pleasure to listen to. What kind of toms and bass are you playing on?

  • Thanks! The kit is a Pacific LX. What do you recommend? Maybe it's the way I have them tuned. Check out the intro to "Drum Lesson: Funky Ride Cymbal Pattern" in my videos and let me know what you think of that sound. It's closer to what I have now.

  • I have never heard a PDP kit that sounds good with coated heads-but I have heard one that sounded ok with low tuning and aquarian clear 2 plys. Just save the money and get a yamaha or sonor kit and you would be JAMMIN!!!

  • what cowbell is that?

  • Pearl Heracio Hernandez sig. Model.

  • amazing, you kept it clean

  • alright thanks and great playing by the way. i like how its chill and held back you dont try to put too much crazy stuff in. a perfect drummer.

  • oh my word what kind of snare and head is that it sounds great

  • Thanks. It is a Remo CS I think... It's the head with a gray muting center dot.

  • Haha, the 8" tom sounds like a toy.

Good playing, though. I feel like some of it was a bit 'contrived' sounding...like it came straight from a book.

  • just hear that bass damn sounds so freakin nice

  • how many hours do you practice for a day?

  • I am up to 3-5 now. But by the time this video was made, I never went more than 2-3.

  • hey man i really like ur style. Could you tell me what it is that you play in the second drum fill?

  • How many seconds into the clip is the fill?

  • The one im thinking of is from 16seconds in to the clip. Thanks for replying dude!

  • It's based on this pattern, which I found in a marching snare solo book:

    "R L rrL R llR L rrL R llR L R L"

The fast notes you hear in the fill are the double stroke embellishments. Though I think I play them as single strokes. but either way works.

  • oh rite! thanks man ill practise it and try and get it up to scratch. Cheers

  • Now I'm happy

  • what is the name of the color of your drumset?

  • Pacific LX Regal to Royal Fade

  • Four years and this groove...that's amazing!

  • Thanks for sharing!!! Very nice!

  • tight...

  • very nice!

  • That's so awesome man. Are you playing in a band or something ? :)

  • Thanks man! Sure am. I play in two bands. Though unfortunately I don't have any recordings up on their myspace yet.

  • cant stop watching this.

    its so funky

  • Maaan I digg this groove. Funky styles are always better

  • I love the hihat groove at 0:46 and the cowbell is awesome too!

  • How much was this kit

  • About a thousand dollars (plus cymbals and hardware)

  • is tht a thousand dollars WITH cymbal and hardware?

  • Thousand dollars for just the drums. Everything else is added on to that.

  • awesome man thats sick

  • The way you add the bass hits are awsem dude.Your snare is amazing sounding

  • ah.. i now see what you use for mics. Great vids man. Nice ghosting. And sweet groovin'. sure makes a difference to play when the set is soundin' sweet eh?
