I've had my Lenovo Ideapad Y550 since October of 2008. It still works as well as it did when I took it out of the box three years ago. So happy with this purchase. I would definitely buy another Lenovo.

If you go to Lenovo's website you can customize it up to 2.8ghz, you can get a perfect config for under $1000 . the only thing i don't like is the resolution (1366x768), a lot of laptops nowadays are using 1600x900, 1680x1050, and 1920x1080 as the norm and 1366x768 is usually for cheaper, low powered laptops.

Its an option to buy it preloaded with the Microsoft tools and stuff (excel, word, powerpoint, etc.), but it will cost more on your overall laptop price.

Even if you don't buy it preinstalled with excel, you can easily buy the excel CD or the Microsoft Business CD separate and install it yourself.

The blank screen is actually an option for Windows Vista to save power and is sort of like a screen saver (without the flashy designs).

You could adjust any laptop to do this within the settings/display
