I've flown that exact plane numerous times. It was based out of St. Carles Muni (3SQ) The pilot survived but had serious injuries. I don't know the status of his license but he's fortunate to still be with us.

Ive flown that plane myself. I used to work at that airport. Don't remember who that happen to though. I have an idea but not for sure.

I was always told as a practical matter if the plane is at half-tanks, go refill it. Also you need to maintain your legal reserves.

Just goes to show that GA crashes are so rare that they get nationwide attention. Imagine if everytime a Toyota hit a wall it was national news.

Thats 2 minutes away from my house. I drove past that crashed plane a few times a day on the way to sioux passage park.
