  • thats why they have a really good sale becuase your only getting half a fish

  • I bought this Fish at PetsAtHome and it had like white stuff all over it and killed my other fish and then it died... :S

  • AAAUUUGHGHGHGHGH

  • Everybody here needs to stop making blanket comments. Not all Petsmarts/Petcos suck, not all their employees suck, but a lot of them do. The quality of the animals and therefore the store is dependent on the individual employees in that particular building. Also @kr1msynn , that doesn't mean anything. How much of that was supplies or services or just stupid people buying unhealthy animals? You don't know.

  • Wow that is very sad... The store should be reported to the district manager or vp of petsmart... I work for petsmart and i kno their policy on taking care of fish.. Anytime we notice a problem with our pets they go to the vet or a sick tank where they can b cured... Wat bothers me the most is wen people say pet store dont take of care if their pets.. Which can b true and very sad.. But not ALL petsmarts or pet stores are that way.. Which brings me bak to my point... REPORT THE STORE!!

  • Those oscars look rough. The petsmarts in my area are pretty good, but the petco near me has a fish selection similar to whats in this video. They have a dirty pathetic saltwater selection, corals covered in brown algae, and they have sickly looking freshwater fish that cost 2x more than the heathy ones at petsmart. Even the aquarium kits at petco are overpriced

  • Still better then petco.

  • Spacetroopman do you have the name of the farm ????

  • i bout 5 fiish from petsmart and they lasted for 3 years :)

  • there no ill there just ugly

  • I heard about this. there cichlid supplier had a disease in there farms and had to keep selling to stay in busness i visited there fish farm and they said it was caused by two fish. every thing was sold and they cleaned everything and have uv serilizers all over the place keeping diesases out.

  • That is a sad sight to see, though the PetSmart I go to is really good and takes very good care of the fish, they feed, clean give medicine, etc, although do not buy a fish at Walmart, because they are there to die. I do however have pictures of the bettafish from Walmart and most of them are dead or diseased with fin loss.

  • Ohhh and alot of people who bring back dead fish.. they are 95% preventable... we educate people on proper ways to set up ur tank... dnt expect ur fish to live if u put them in there the day u set the tank up, dnt mix chiclids with others, 1 gold fish needs atleast 2 gallons of water, some think u can put any fish with goldfish. no, goldfish r very dirty, they release high ammonia and nitrates and some fish cannot handle it, acclimate the fish to the tank b4 dumpin them in... lol common mistakes

  • It is sad . I work at petsmart and they are very strict on caring for the animals. Every day I have to give fresh food and water dishes to each animal, sanitize cages and check each animal for any abnormailities. We had two turtles with minor shell rot, they were taken to the vet and now they r separtated and given vet perscribed treatment 3 times a day everyday. Fish are also removed from tanks and given medicated food to help with fin rot etc... i guess some managers @ other stores dnt care

  • i bought 5 fish from petsmart. they all are dead in not even 4 days.

  • There's no way that's possible, no wholesaler would ever sell fish that sick. That is the most stupid thing you could possibly say you have no idea they do come in very bad sometimes and we have no choice but to accept it because it comes in on the shipment truck so there is no one to turn it back to you. Your dumb and have no idea how thing work if you have a problem with a store call corporate.

  • IT IS VERY SIMPLE PEOPLE REPORT THE STORE THEY CAN'T FIX IT IF YOU DON'T TELL ON THE IDIOTS RUNNING THE STORE. COME TO MY STORE AND THERE WILL NOT BE ANY SICK FISH.

  • They despretly need vet care. I feel so bad for those poor oscar fish!

  • wow!they put on everything that they have saying they take care of the pets!BUT when you go to get one you see that>:O i am dissapointed in them.

  • they are fish zombies loooool

poor oscar :(( i fucking wana kill the guy who takes care of these fishes. :@@

  • @kr1msynn Soooooooo because petsmart made a profit on shitty animals that means you should buy there? I have had similiar experiances at my local petsmart. decor with the tags still on it in tanks.sickly looking fish. gross tanks etc......

  • The closest pet store to where I live is Pet Supplies Plus. And they take very good care of their animals. It makes me very sad to see that a place that you have to rely on for care, is actually not that safe.

  • I certinitly don't know to mutch about fish but i do know that those are some sick fish, how terrible for idiots to leave those fish in those terrible conditions :'(. I hope those people die in !@#$ for the way those fish. I would rather die then stay alive in that condition. :(

  • Aww, that makes me feel bad for the fish :(

  • This is really bad. They obviously don't know how to care for your fish. I dislike your generic description though. I work at a petsmart and me and everyone in the pet care department is VERY knowledgeable about fish. None of our fish have every looked even close to that bad. Of course some have gotten sick, we have thousands of fish, but we always isolate and medicate them until they are better.

  • @Degu1 Generic description? How so? It's pretty long and detailed with what I saw there that day. Right now the conditions in their tanks are much much better, but that particular store's employees' ignorance to the fact that their fish were in disgustingly horrible and diseased condition alarmed me...especially since they were all still for sale.

  • @evm2007 Ah I apologize I only saw the "This is why you should never buy fish from a 'box store'." part. It depends on the employees. As I said my petsmart is great, but you go 5 miles in any direction and the staff at the other petsmarts are all idiots. I personally tell customers to avoid getting advice from those other stores and keep those visits strictly to purchasing what they know they need.

  • @Degu1 places like petco and petsmart dont give a ratsass about there animals there just in it for the money

  • Dam I'm lucky, the two Petco and PetDumb's here in Slidell La and Gulfport Ms have great knowledgeable staff and I've only seen 1 instance in which there were sick fish.

  • Sadly, not all stores are like that.

Poor fishies...They really do look like they're undead! :(

  • Exactly! It's allllllll about the employees! Can't stress that enough!

The petsmart closest to me is great. It's owned by a man who keeps fish himself and the tanks are absolutely beautifully decorated with live plants (and they also sell a wide selection of rare plants)...And the guy who works in the fish section isn't just some random teenager who knows nothing about fish! If you have knowledgeable workers who can differentiate and treat different diseases, there shouldn't be a problem.

  • went to pets at home yesterday all the fish look sick and 13 tanks were coverd up with stickers saying under treatment and the staff in store couldent look after themselvs never mind animals

  • o-e eww

  • They look like fish zombies.

  • Some pet smarts could take better care of their fish but also we can't control what comes in on the trucks so we just have to treat when they arrive. Also another thing to consider is are they customer returns that people bought and messed up then returned happens all the time. Anytime fish look sick or ill in my tanks i do not choose them when bagging them for a pet parent or i will point out the problem and suggest a different fish or that they return when it has gotten over its sickness.

  • how the hell is that "extremely ill and diseased"

  • @LAXdoubleK You can't see how many of the fish have missing fins, hole-in-the-head disease, lateral line erosion, and bacterial infections? Quite obvious in my opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • @quinze3 At least I don't talk like a barbarian. And it is hard to tell; it's a fucking fish. They all look like that to me.

  • Comment removed

  • @quinze3 Yea you need to slow down for me speed demon. I can't even understand you. Derpderpderp.

  • Comment removed

  • @quinze3 wow you can smell me? thats amazing

  • @LAXdoubleK nope........... thats what your momma said

  • that`s how fish are!

  • how did i go from mw2 to this O__O

  • I go to petsmart all of the time, the staff at the one i go to is very good, and very knowledgeable, they know what they are talking about, and always help me out with my problems. Not all big pet stores are bad, its the employees, and how they work.

  • WOW PEOPLE!!! petsmart and petco cann be bad stores 2 the pets.... MAYBE. it depends on the petstore in ur neighborhood. u are saving the pets from there. its not like they kill them on purpose!! now come on!!! dont be stupid!!!! after u buy the pet its your problem. not theirs. if they die within 60 days or less u get a refund. its not their fault most of the time!! GOD SOME PPL DONT LIKE TO ADMIT ITS THEIR FAULT!!!

  • They are not sick nor ill, Oscar fish are naturally quite aggressive by which they were biting each others fins.

  • my local walmart has a isle full of fish and there all diseased with these white spots and these people are always coming and putting hand sanitizer in there tanks poor fish.

  • It all depends on what store you go to... My Petco oerstocks their tank, but only because they sell he fish out so fast. They sell them so fast because they take good care of them. They are very well trained, too, and treat any sick animal correctly.

  • You should go to my walmart the lose over 80 gold fish a day I just call it the death tank

  • Those are the sorriest lookin oscars I have ever seen.

  • this is sad. i didn't dislike it because i disagree, just because it's sad.

  • petsmart made 271 million dollars just within the first 90 days of the year of 2011...81 million dollars of that was profit...try harder with your propaganda videos.

  • @kr1msynn It's not propaganda. I shop at Petsmart & Petco all the time, just not for fish because most of their stock is usually overpriced, hybrids, or mislabeled. I just happened to walk into Petsmart one day and noticed how diseased a lot of their fish were and how their staff was ignorant to the problem by still having them up for sale. A responsible pet store would've labeled them not for sale and started medicating them.

I wasn't aware documenting a case of animal negligence was proganda.

  • @evm2007 As a (until very recently) Petsmart employee, I'll tell you that Petsmart policy does not allow the store or employees to put any type of "Not for Sale" tags up on tanks. And since I am now at Petco, where they ARE allowed to put up those sorts of signs, I'll tell you, it doesn't make customers any happier or the fish get better any faster. Petsmart does have quarantine tanks in the back, where these fish should have been moved to. Oscars are also disease magnets.

  • @kr1msynn alot of people don't have access to good petstore's so they have to go to places like this, its the same thing with shopping stores, walmarts suck but they are every where, man take another look at the video and take your propaganda and shove it.

  • @kr1msynn petsmart makes that money because everyone buys pets from them or goes there for their pets needs . just because they make money means nothing. they are a super whole store and they care nothing about their pets health thats why they have a back room full of dead and dying animals, but they are like wal mart too many people buy things from them and they will always be around regardless the efforts made by people trying to save animals. dying animals to them is just a write off

  • @xXxsecrets3liesxXx Your completely wrong and you shouldn't judge the whole company off of a couple of stores.

  • @Thesuperjayman99 sorry you feel that way. but if a "company" has a "few" bad stores , then they should address those issues so people in masses dont think poorly of their company.and to point out a "couple" of stores is more like a lot of stores, there are people from all over the usa posting on here about their local petsmart having sick pets

  • omg Are those oscars? this is sick!

  • @AddictingVeggieDip ive seen a pleco sucking on a diseased gourami at pet co they are assholes.

  • Local mom&pop shops suck just as bad, if you want it done right, do it yourself.

  • All of these stores give bad information about fish-care. The best way to do it is to make sure that you have the right bacteria in your tank and test for ammonia, nitrit and nitrate. Ammonia (the fish's own pee) turns into nitrit in a balanced tank and then fast turns into nitrate which is the least harmless to your fish. Never wash your tank with soup! That destroys all the good bacteria!

  • @NJMIgnatio Petsmart, Walmart, and Petco all suck. Shop local from mom&pop stores and hobbyist breeders. Seriously, get your facts straight before you start trolling on somebody's video on youtube.

  • @NJMIgnatio PetsMart, WalMart, and Petco all mostly hire inexperienced employees that kill more fish than their customers do who listen to their bad advice. I seriously overheard an employee telling a customer that an Oscar cichlid would be fine in a 20g tank along with a Pacu fish for LIFE... Those fish probably both died within a few months if not weeks in that small tank.

  • @NJMIgnatio Anyway, stay away from my videos if all you're going to do is be a jackass. I'm not against the pet trade. Since you pretend to know so much about me, did you not see my videos of some of my fish tanks? In fact, I just got back from the American Cichlid Association 2011 Convention in Washington DC. I know a LOT more about the pet trade than you apparently.

  • @NJMIgnatio WTF are you talking about troll? All this video is simply me documenting how some commercial box stores just do NOT take care of their fish and how some are even more than willing to sell sick fish to customers. That particular store told me all that all the fish are still for sale, and refused to give them to me (even though they were probably less than a week from dying) so I could try and save them with an intensive medication regiment (and then later donate them to local schools)

  • Very good description and a informative video to some viewers.

  • I have worked for both corporate and independent fish retail stores. I do know for a fact that all places can get bad fish from your wholesale warehouse. The difference is whether your store has the funds and willpower to fix it. We quarantine our fish if they show signs of illness (I have a very large oranda recovering from swim bladder inf.) That's all that store needed was someone to at least be able to explain this. I just don't understand why nobody attempted to fix it they let it get wors

  • wow... just... wow... i never BELIEVED that petco would do something like this! the only petco's i've ever been to had awesome fish, which made me think, "wow, they're amazing!" ever since i saw this video... i'm starting to think the fish in the petco's i've been to were the lucky ones...

  • @alboix56 its pet smart stupid

  • it isnt the stores fault most of the time the fish are already sick when they get there. at least there not like walmart!!!

  • thats just sad

  • Pathetic that they can't even keep something as hardy as an oscar healthy..

  • The Petsmart I Go To Isnt Like This... :O

    (poor fish) :(

  • i went to petsmart and saw all these lil fish DEAD lying on the gravel. I asked the guy about them and he's like "oh idk wats wrong with them they've been acting funny" and i said clearly they're dead and hes like "oh ya ,yup they look dead. we just got them today" he says it so casually and he just walks away and dosen't do anything!!!!

  • :.(

  • its great that pet stores here in the Philippines are owned by breeders

  • petco isint good because they kill there fish

  • i know petco is better

  • That's why I go to Petco. :)

  • i was at the toms river and manahawkin new jersey petsmart and they care for thier fish if they are sick they have a sick tank to put them in and sometimes they treat the whole entire section for percaution and for new fish ariving i love my petsmarts.

  • @mikeydude319 a fish bowl isn't even meant for a goldfish only bettas goldfish one fancy goldfish just by itself needs a 29 gallon or more you could put two in just watch water peramitors (ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and do every 2-4 25% water changes with a gravel vaccume and refil with tap water with dechlorinator soulution mixed with it but if you want one of those 20 cent goldfish you need a fish tank of 75 gallons just for two!!!! they get huge and for koi don't even bother you

  • everyone saying that their petsmart is"really good" and has very healthy fish, you are more than likely a current employee just doing damage control. this company puts a greater emphasis on greeting customers with smiling faces and pushing their services on them rather than properly training their employees. To work in the aquatics section they give you a book to read with some fill in the blanks. but what can you expect from a place that pays so little, it wont attract anyone knowledgeable

  • The petsmarts around were I live do a much better job. You should have complained to the store manager not a pee on tho. They just work there. Those were some sad fish I would be kind of pissed to.

  • well my local petsmart has great fish care, all the fish there are healthy and dont have any infections. Also the feeder fish tanks had no dead fish so i am very happy about my fish store

  • petsmart does a good job in my area. i've had horrible luck with walmart and i lost 26 fish because i didn't realize how sick the fish were when i bought them.

  • Wish I'd never gotten my fish there :(

They had fin rot, stupid me I didn't notice at the time.

Nothing I do to treat them works.

    I'm so depressed *sigh*

  • Wow! Really sad.. hope something happened with this situation... really not cool...

  • That's really weird for a Petsmart. They have sick tanks in the back that you are supposed to take ill or injured fish to to be treated. Get a hold of the manager who is in charge of the Petsmarts in your area. Write him or call him, be as mature as possible or nothing will get done (don't write an angry letter full of exclamation points). These are stores you should be able to trust. Now the employees can't do anything, it's the manager you have to complain to.

  • Sad thing is "They would sell these sick fish to someone who isnt fish smart.

  • Sorry about the shaky camera, I wanted to document as many sick fish as possible in the shortest time since I didn't want to be caught filming. Head on over to that petsmart and see for yourself! Short of them giving them away free I highly doubt they will ever sell those fish.

  • @evm2007 tha petsmart were i go 2 there fish are healthy ndd active sometimes it can be were they get there fish from cuz sometimes they be getting sick fish

  • @evm2007 aww how sad:( me and my brother are gonna get a fish from pet smart if thay have any:( we think we should get a gold fish but my parnts dont want to spend like 60$ on a tank so we're just gonna

put it in a class fish boul! with water in (of course) and toys and stuff. can we just put it in a class fish boul and it would last really really long??
