John MacArthur makes the Nephilim sound like the Hells Angels or the Mafia of today. He talks for close to 5 minutes on this subject and says the same thing over and over again. The name Nephilim was given to this group of people for a reason, they are what the Bible says they are. MacArthur makes them sound like an angry and mean group of people somewhere. They were much more than that. Read the Bible more closely.

I think he's reading quite a bit into the text. Nowhere in the Bible does it says that fallen angels are demons. (Good) angels manifest physically numerous times in the Bible so why can't bad angels? The Bible doesn't say this power was taken away from the fallen. Nowhere does it say angels can possess someone. The straightforward reading suggests fallen angels tried the same tactic after the flood and that God sent the Israelites to wipe them out instead of another flood.

One of the only things i disagree with John Macaurther about. The sons of God (believers in God) and the daughters of man (unbelieving spouses) had children that were giants. The bible study lesson would be "the GIANT problems that come from Christians marrying non Christians."

I really like John Macarthur's teachings overall, but I think he is very wrong on this one. It clearly states that angels had sex with women. They created evil offspring. So where did the giants, powerful warriors come from? Nephilim interpreted can still mean a race of ungodly people who resulted from angels coming down from heaven and taking the daughters of men in marriage (forcing them). This subject is one that ministers don't want to touch.

We, Christians and Jews alike need to refer to Jesus, the Christ as what He was called by His people: Yeshua HaMaschiah, the Messiah. Notice that God called Noah a "just" man, which means "Righteous" Regardless of that we can safely say that his DNA wasn't corrupt.

John Mac.says the spies just used the word Nephilim to keep from going in the land.Well what about Caleb and Joshua,were they going to go along with a lie?Remember the spies said "we are like grasshoppers in their sight",this is clearly saying they were GIANTS.People just don't want to take the Bible at it's word because it's so fantastic to believe in real giants,but evidence for giants has existed and exists to this day.We should believe all the Bible or none of it.

Goliath and his brothers had "six toes and six fingers" and they Og king had a bed stand of 14 feet...Joshua had to wipe out these tribes of POST NEPHILIM people. That's the greatness of the book of Joshua, little Israel getting rid of these gigantic half demon half human hybrids. Unfortunately they didn't get rid of ALL of them, just most. That's why there were some giants left after Joshua.

I think everybody is missing a point here though. John Macarthur doesn't get his knowledge from anything but the bible. The bible talks very little about the Nephilim and for john to think the way he does based on this... He wouldn't sound so far off.
I question the source of other information. everybody seems to know so much but who can really be sure.

Very disappointing!!, I would have accepted an answer of "don't know enough about them to really comment". There is overwhelming evidence of 'Real Giants' , scientifically, historically, and then in scripture to dispute what Mr. MacArthur explains.
Chuck Missler, Steve Quayle, Tom horn, Josephus, Jim(forget his last name), Solomon Islands, Indian Mounds, Josephus, Smithsonian underground storage, Fossil records, Old Testament, New Testament, The Book of Enoch, etc.

I couldn't agree less it says 4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward.

The obscurities are generally a result of translation from the bibles original 3 languages and also the lack of knowledge we have on certain meanings of words during the day each part of the bible was written.
Therefor, the original text itself should be intact.

@wwwADAMSPADEcom There are variations in every tradition and every ancient language used to carry God's word. .... Therefore, the original text is not known to be exactly intact in exactly one text. Yet, in faith, we do believe that its message is carried by His Spirit. The traditions of men love to place a monopoly based on their local stream of theological descent (hence the ephraimites, the masoretes, the KJV-onlyists, etc).

if you can id read the hebrew or greek translations...they are fixed languages..meaning they never changed..un like english where one of our words holds several meanings..

@79mistermischief - I have news for you, Hebrew words hold several meanings AND calculations simultaneously --- every word is multi-dimensional. LOL - Hebrew isn't so much a "language" in the traditional sense of "languages" as it is a perception. Hebrew is alpha-numeric it requires usage of both right & left brain faculties simultaneously meaning: While you're reading "words" you're also calculating yet another (expanded, if you will) perception - both analytical & creative processes.

@jonsi317 - it doesn't. Personally, I had issue with McArthur's choice of words using "obscurities" in re the Bible. Pay very close attention to what's being said today -- for those who have ears to hear, let them hear.

David was a serial killer? A man after God's own heart? No son of Adam lived a perfect life. The problem isn't your issue with people thinking fairy tails are real, but that they really are real and that reality is something you cannot bear. 1 Corinthians 2:14 makes it clear your senses in which you trust, make the facts seem like foolishness. You cannot discern spiritual matters, because you are not spiritual but instead you are fully carnal, therefore the wrath of God waits for you.
