  • This is a good post for young heads that don't know about the underground. These guys with massive record sales probably do work very hard at what they do, but their skills rarely satisfy me, personally. Thanks for the post. If you want to check out some hiphop inspired by the early 90's era, check out my music on SalomonModes

  • yes slapping with brinks indeed, I think the coming years are going to slap many mainstream empires with a brick

  • The fact that Soulja Boy can go platinum to me is proof that you don't need any talent to sell records. Just a gimmick, some catchy beats, and a good marketing strategy that's geared towards the right audience(little kids, females, white people etc.). Anyone who tries to justify how good someone is by the numbers they do is an idiot. Point, blank, period.

  • Shaq went platinum... that doesn't mean he's good.

  • Sales aint everything but they do count, because i think anybody would prefer to be eminem or jay z than sum underground rapper that u said could whoop their ass. even if they rap better who cares they didnt make it. Its funny to me how you can discuss hip hop and never talk about 2pac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the king of rap!!!!

  • Couldn't agree with you more man. I hate it when people claim that popularity equals talent. In the wise words of Immortal Technique, "If you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck. It just means that a million people are stupid as fuck."

  • If wayne went toe to toe with Big Pun, you would need to put Pun in jail for murdering wayne on the mic

  • @WiseUp89 why did you jus pick pun...any body from the 90s could take out wayne his metaphors are all throw aways...there understandable soon as you hearit and arent even that good(wayne couldnt even compete)

  • @cKooLaiD311

"One egg short of the omelet / Simon says shoot a nigga in his thigh and leg

And tell him ketchup like mayonnaise" --Lil wayne

just one of the reasons why he is just a terrible rapper.

  • @WiseUp89 yea i agree...but yea to me pun isnt really a metaphore giant hes jus good at vocabulary and flow his wordplay is jus like normal and anything else he does is normal his flow and vocab is jus out of this world....thats why i said how come you jus picked pun.....but yea wayne is terrible...

  • @cKooLaiD311

    Metaphors are great and all,

but if you don't have delivery it doesn't really matter how great your metaphors are because the execution isn't on point.

but i get what you're saying,

to me Pun is a lyrical beast,

I like the fact that his vocab is outta this world

i get tired of these nursery-rhyming-Dr.Seus-vocab having rappers

I think there was an interview long ago with Pun where he stated he read the dictionary to expand his lexicon, that's some real shit

  • If you wanna talk about record sales, lil lame wayne fails at that shit too.

in his first 5 Solo Albums wayne did - 4.5 Mil

Kanye West = (Graduation and Dropout) - 6 Mil

Jay-Z Record = (Black Album and Kingdom Come) - 6 Mil

and wack rapper chingy has about the same album sales as lil wayne cuz his first album went 3x platinum, 2nd album platinum, third gold and 4th below gold about 4.5 mill sold

If the Aftermath trio woke up with wanyes money tomorrow, the'y jump out the window!

  • Perfect example is the dude playin' in the background. Phonte is one of the illest in the game but he's not even close to doin' Lil' Wayne numbers. I like an emcee for what he can do, not how popular he is. Although I'm always glad to see emcees I like doing well sales wise.

  • "Record sales are the dumbest criteria to base skill upon, These radio idiots have no idea that idividuals that sell are usually terrible artist. Remember back in 2001 it was Nelly who made platinum sales. Nelly is a shit artist and still is. I mean if Soulja Boy can sell records then going platinum is not a viable excuse to justify MC skills or talent"

  • 2:04

    love it!

  • hahaha...slam em with a brick, ha

  • WORD!!! YOU FAKKING ROCK!!!!!!

  • i had this argument with some dumbass the other day at school. i was sayin mos def would murder lil wayne, and he brings up quote on quote "but lil wayne sells more records" then he started mentioning swag, thats the stupidest hip hop term up to date right now. so i just walked away i hate when people think that determines if ur a good artist or not.

    great video

  • I hate the word swag!

  • record sales = popularity not necessarily skillz

  • ppl go platinum in a weeks time! thats cool

but when u go Diamond come holla at me!!!

    ITS THE ROCK!!!

  • your right fam!!! its not about how much CDs you sell, its about your skills and your ability to emcee, the only reason we buy CDs is to show support to the artist music, not help the artist bring up his sale so he can buy a cars, bitches and jewelry

  • u and emceemake are fukin awesome! i hate this new bs hip hop.

  • And alot of Lil Wayne fans try to justify records sales as a legit reason to why Wayne is good...Lil Wayne is weak, he's only average at best. Even if record sales dictated how good a rapper is, Lil Wayne aint got shit on Eminem or Jay Z.

  • People are stupid these days, record sales have nothing to do w/how good a rapper is. If Soulja Boy can go platinum then it's obvious you don't need talent to sell records.

  • most people who enjoy the better artists are intellectual enough to know how to illegally download music.....the majority of these record sales white middleclass teens who have an expendible income and are simply following the popular trend....views are molded by the media and most people just follow the status quo and go with the norm....it is alot easier to find a carter cd in the store than it is to find a madlib beat konducta album.....who is to blame though?....it is up to us

  • LoL I'm not trying to be racists or anything but, I work at this store that sells holloween items & what not & I was working in the dressing rooms 1 time, & his white kid & some other white guys & chicks came up to me & said they were all gonna be lil wayne for holloween they were all buying dreads, grills, & blue & red bandanas LoL! I tried to keep from laughing but it was too much! In my mind I was like don't you people know lil wayne is garbage?

  • how is that racist ?

u didnt say anything racist about whts

  • @alanmorrison1986 well...why cant we blacks change the trend? Why do we feel like we need to invent the wheel over and over? Whatever WE do and say is cool, the world will love it. Weak dudes like wayne say they just want people to feel their pain. Why would i want to feel your pain? Its like you have the flu...why would I want to feel your flu?? So when you idolize someones pain...other will want to have to same pain...the same fame...its perpetual and the cycle wont change until WE change it!!

  • @alanmorrison1986 Word up man! i totally agree
