I hope Chevy fails. they don't care about their employees, why should I? they dont care about their customers, why should I? they don't know up from down in the auto market. Toyota and Honda, and yes now even Ford have just killed them in almost every way, other than making big useless SUVs. I just hate the executives with the passion, and I hope this French born company well find its final resting place in the graveyard of the USA.
Why? According to the USDOT-BTS, 78% of daily commutes and 92% of one-way trips are LESS than 40 miles. The Volt uses NO gas during these trips and electricity is 1/10th the cost of gas per mile!!
The 1st years Volt production will sell out the 1st weekend even if it costs over $40,000 and competes with other premium compact cars with unique style and performance, like the $46,000 BMW 135i or $44,000 Audi A3.
So cry forever about a couple of hundred prototypes a few years ago while GM is finishing a multi-billion dollar production facility in Hamtramck, MI designed to crank out hundreds of thousands of Chevrolet Volts. I was upset about the EV-1 also, but I'm not going to continue to attack them about it if they are the first to bring electric cars to market en masse.
no matter what any eco friendly journalist says about it, the ev-1 was just not practical. it would have cost way too much and not have driven far. thats the reason gm trashed them, not some conspiracy. and it wasnt a waste either, that technology helped gm develop the volt
bman... what.....are......you.....talking about?? the EV-1 was superior to the volt. i drive a 60 mile range EV as my daily driver. converted with no experience. it takes me 2 to 3 days usually to use it up. the 2nd generation EV-1 went 140 miles... 80 mph (governed) and 0-60 in less than 8 secs. research so you don't misinform.
the volt has 1/3 the gas-free range of the 10-yr-old ev-1. the ev-2 (alan cocconi designed) could be considered his tzero, the teslas, or his ac propulsion eBox, and now now his systems are being used in the eMini coopers... . all hugely superior to the volt.

hundreds of fully-functional, highly-regarded ev-1's were destroyed by this very company just a few years ago. i find that offensive.

Very, very cool looking. I like this BETTER than the "original" concept Volt.
