  • This was one of the very first 45's I ever bought as a kid.. was 11 when this came out.. RIP Gerry.. You still resonate thru my musical tastes and today's music is so lame compared to the 70s.

  • 4 min 20sec into the video there is a sneak appearance of Stevie Nicks

  • flashes and bits of this songs melody and lyrics have been stuck in my hear for years as i've searched for it. thank you youtube and skytrax for letting me find this wonderful song.

  • muy bueno

  • Music is just not the same anymore with the singers like Gerry Rafferty and Al Stewart

  • Gerry was sooo gifted. He had such restraint on some songs that you just want to "belt out". I bought "City to City" the day it hit my local record store and never stopped appreciating the soul in his voice, that never would have been, were it not for the struggles he had. Despair births blues and is translated by the soul in the voice. I luv ya Gerry. Thank You for sharing your soul.

  • My personal favorite "Gerry" tune, the guy was great and will be missed.

  • Everytime I see this Video I get Tears in my Eyes. I will miss you Gerry FRANK.

  • i grew up with your music..loved it so much, and still... rest in peace, old friend...

  • sublime craftsmanship.

  • AWESOME

  • odd tune , but very clever

  • Great song of course

Just an observation, this is a pure playback, I'll guive an exeption to the Volcals maybe

and also there are more instruments Like acoustic guitar, the violins , percusion, beside the Sax, the Solo guitar , the Drums , the Bass and the Synth that you see here which aren't even synchronized (pretending playing live- like the drummer so obviouse.

  • This is by far the best version uploaded on Youtube, Sounds great, looks great! Thank You and Thank You Gerry!!

  • This really brings back memories. Gerry Rafferty is one of a kind. Thanks for the great music Gerry!

  • Esto, si es musica!, caballero!!!!

  • Gerry Rafferty's music was,is,and always will be fuckin awesome!!!

  • i like the drummer,liam genocky

  • Real music ...right here !!!

  • Every Sat night 30 years ago I would offer to clear up our local hall after the disco if they played this song. The DJ would put this on for me 2 or 3 times while I danced and brushed the floor......We are now married and this is one of our songs. Thanks for the memories Gerry, RIP. X

  • Awesome!

  • just epic , wonder what studio this was recorded in

  • This great song, and the wonderful 'Days Gone Down' are two of the songs that I remember from my youth ( now sadly gone).......thanks Gerry, and may you rest in peace now...

  • Looks like we have 316 people with actual taste and 1 Justin Bieber fan.

Thanks so much for uploading this gem. Mr. Rafferty will never be forgotten. x

  • @Leanashe23

    354 music lovers now :-)

  • GODDAMMIT I WAS BORN TOO LATE!!!!!

  • I listened to Gerry's City To City as a 14 year old, and every year I'd pull it out for one or two go-rounds: LP, then cassette, now iPod. Each year it grew on me, as I grew as a person. Then, Gerry died, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. A lost innocence--I thought he'd always be there. Although I never listened to him as I did, for instance, The Eagles or Aerosmith, he was always there. Until now. So now, I have spent hours researching this man. His indelible music. I'm on board, Ger

  • @coolkayaker1 I always thought he'd be here, too, and his death has hit me like none other.

  • Unbelievably smooth. RIP Gerry, and thanks for the great music.

  • I can't believe my ears!! I have never heard them before!; Fantastic,They are Genius

All !!. Oh , I must have been deaf and blind...

  • 1 person didn't get it right this time

  • Anyone who grew up in the late 70's early 80's, be it uk or otherwise will know this guy and his music the was the "dogs bollicks" RIP Gerry................ Thank you :)

  • I love that this amazing song is played by a bunch of nerdy guys and a tiny saxophone :) Recording Studios really produce magic!

  • @Rumpio MAGIC! Absolutely true, that! (p.s. that "tiny saxophone" is a full-size alto sax) Peace, friend, AHA :o].

  • RIP Gerry

  • You are missed Gerry.................you always got it right the FIRST time.

  • All the best and most talented people seem to die young and yet leave so much enjoyment behind for us all... They have problems - it's not their fault, yet I guess there will always be someone to criticise them...

Great man - great talent! God Bless Gerry. x

  • all his songs were so talented musically and lyrically. Baker st was one that meant a lot to me at the time but now on reflection this is what i really remember when i think of him now. rip gerry thanks 4 all you gave us.

  • Great music from a fantastic talented musician, sad loss. RIP.

  • @leonaofficial I understand prolific as a synonym for successful and productiv a.o., that's what I went with anyway. That he was that is hardly debatable. I'm a bit sad that in my case Rafferty is a case of van Gogh-syndrome, being discovered and cherished by me only after his untimely death. Interesting also how he died in such a similar selfinflicted way as vG, not from a bullet wound but from an internal injury before his time nonetheless, by way of alcohol.

  • I came to listen to this song because it was used in a Doctor Who Confidential episode. Coincidentally both Gerry's daughter and one of the 10th Doctor's companions were named Martha!

  • @45rpmSINGLES It means he was a prolific songwriter and that he lived from '47 to '11, I bet Gerry was not exactly prolific at age 5. No one likes a smartass.

  • Baker Street and Get It Right Next Time were my favorite Gerry Rafferty songs.

  • The music says everything!

  • Raphael Ravenscroft was on sax, Liam Genocky on drums, bass guitar Gary Taylor, electric Piano and Synth: Tommy Eyre, Guitars: Hugh Burns, Percussion: Frank Ricotti, and Vocals/Acoustic Guitar: Gerry!! Perfect combination!!

  • Absolutely Hauntingly Beautiful-the music the words, thanks for the video.

  • my very favorite Rafferty song and top 5 all-time songs. The guitar riffs, the piano, the sax, all just meld perfectly. Rest In Peace Gerry and thanks for the memories.

  • Billy Connolly on sax!!!

    ... just kidding.

  • a focus group study would elbow that bass player out now

  • Quality.

  • 45rpmSINGLES..shut yer face

  • @ArdRinaRi 1980 - 2010 - 6 albums . You`d have to be Irish to consider 6 albums in 30 years prolific I guess but what do i know eh

  • genius

  • Brilliant. R.I.P Gerry.

  • thanks for getting me through college! RIP Gerry!

  • many thanks, mr. rafferty !

  • R.I.P. GERRY thanks for the memories..

  • Magical video this , to see Gerry and the Band performing a Wonderful song. I love the lyrics especially " you`ve gotta die a little everyday to try and stay awake "

  • Gerry Rafferty a talented man, who sadly had private demons and struggled with alcholism for years.

    R I P

  • Always loved this song. RIP Gerry Rafferty.

  • sad to have lost Gerry.. his music will live on forever! R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty.

  • Gerry created memorable songs that stand the test of time. Baker Street still played regularly on radio and in tv adverts 30 plus years after the original recording.

He was a great talent and it is such a pity he did not derive the pleasure from that he should have. I hope he has now found peace.

  • I have always loved Gerry's music. A true gent, and song writing genius.

RIP Gerry, sleep calm, your torture is now over!!!

  • This song should have 3,000,000 views not 30,000 .

Best Gerry video on youtube !

I was fortunate to see him perform it live on tour in 1993

    RIP

I'm seriously bummed at losing Gerry today, when I was a kid in the 70s I just LOVED his music. Well thought out, melodically endlessly listenable, intelligent and down right fun.

  • Scottish musicians are soooooo underrated and disrespected!

  • That's not Jeff Lynne in there, is it ?

  • best video on youtube, unbelievable sound clarity

  • @stuffitTX You're spot-on there matey. This track is, second only to "Baker Street", the essence. I also hope Gerry has made a recovery from his recent illness. He is a Legend. :)

Hey, don't forget "Stuck in the Middle With You".

  • What a great song, just discovered this, gloomy blues rock shuffle, great lyrics. Is he British? looks like a cross between John Lennon and John Scofield.

  • @egyptianminor Yes. Precisely, he is Scottish.

  • Great song ! Phalaïna

  • Out on the street I was talkin’ to a man

He said "there’s so much of this life of mine that I don’t understand"

You shouldn’t worry yes that ain’t no crime

Cause if you get it wrong you’ll get it right next time (next time).

You need direction, yeah you need a name

When you’re standing in the crossroads every highway looks the same

After a while you can recognize the signs

So if you get it wrong you’ll get it right next time (next time).

  • @leonaofficial Life is a liar yeah life is a cheat

It?ll lead you on and pull the ground from underneath your feet

No use complainin?, don?t you worry, don?t you whine

Cause if you get it wrong you?ll get it right next time (next time).

You gotta grow, you gotta learn by your mistakes

You gotta die a little everyday just to try to stay awake

When you believe there?s no mountain you can climb

And if you get it wrong you?ll get it right next time (next time).

  • They look like they're just jamming along. Great video. Fantastic song. This is what I call music.

  • "Drummer for the Gerry Rafferty band. This is the Ohio State Police. Come out with your hands up!"

  • Hi skytrax1,

do you know if this recording was done by the BRT in Belgium?

  • Brilliant Track Thanks!

  • This is FANTASTIC! It's so rare you see Gerry actually LIVE in person. He was quite shy in the 70's 80's and it was rare you saw him on T.V. or in any LIVE type of performances. Thanks again for posting and PLEASE post more live performances of one of the greatest singer and songwriters of the modern age. Thanks again!

  • this his best..classic..hope he gets well soon..
