I think what I understand, could be a displacement map with a number of pixels equals the number of pins of Pinart?
Exactly. Each pixel is roughly controlling one pin.

Basically the animation was generated from a Zdepth render and applied to the pins as a displacement. (apologies if that's over anyone's head, the full explanation is quite long)
really good, what software?
3DsMax for modeling and Animation. The reference head at one point went through Zbrush for another project.
tat look pretty hard to do, end results looks good
