  • Great Coach,

    Old School,

    Gets the best results !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Woody 4 President !

  • The guy was certifiably NUTS! Senility incarnate. The guy was crazy from the get go. 28 years as head coach... probably 28 years too many

  • We dont give a damn for the whole state of Michigan the whole state of Michigan the whole state of Michigan we dont give a damn for the whole state of Michigan cause we're from O-HI-O!

  • Woody was buried with a set of post hole diggers in Union Cemetery.

  • Woody died in his sleep, in his own bed. That day, he was scheduled to give a talk to a group of 5th graders. Since he couldn't make it, Archie Griffin filled in for him.

  • Woody & Ann are buried in Union Cemetary, just north of the OSU campus.Whenever I visit, their headstone looks like an OhioState giftshop:scarlet & grey banners, buckeyes, etc. A fine tribute to a man who has been gone for 24 years now.

  • People would sometimesask Ann Hayesif shewas ever going todivorceWoody. Her reply was"Woody & Ihave been married for many tears...and *neither* of us haveever mentioned theword 'divorce'" (pause) *Murder* on *many* occasions, but never divorce!"

  • After OSU'slast touchdown in the1968 50-14 rout of Michigan, the PAT team ran abroken play which degenerated intoan unsuccessful2point attempt. After the game, reporters asked himwhy he'd gone for two.Woody didn't want to embarass the PAT team, so he said "Because they wouldn't let me go for three!"

  • A lot of people don't know about Woody's service during WW2. He enlisted in the US Navy 7 months before Pearl Harbor. He could havespent thewar at Great Lakes, but he volunteered for sea duty.By VJ Day,he was Lieutenant Commander Hayes, the skipper of the destroyer escort USS Rinehart.

  • Seven straight wins against that School Up North....somewhere Woody is smiling.

  • Those of us who knew Woody loved him, warts and all.

  • My father always told me:don't get in a pissing fight with a skunk.

  • The Arabs havea very wise saying: "Dogs bark, but the caravan moves on"

  • In the early 1970s Bo Schembechler had aserious heart attack.Woody sent him a real "Dutch uncle" letter, telling him to do exactly what the doctors said. The next

year Woody had a serious heart attack. Bo sent Woody's letter back to Woody

along with a note which read "A very wise man once sent me this latter-I hope

    you'll follow his advice"

  • Those of us who knew Woody, loved him, warts & all.

  • Woody was the first Big Ten coach to hire a black assistant,as well as the first to start a black quarterback. He was also the first head coach in the country to allow players to drink water during practices (on the advice of his team physician, Dr. Robert Murphy). No telling how many lives he saved.

  • Just North of the OSU campus is the Woody Hayes Atheletic Facility-quite possibly the best in the country. It did not cost the taxpayers of Ohio a single cent- all paid for by Woody's friends after he died-a great tribute to a great man.

  • People who badmouth Woody are those did not know him.The last eight years of his life, while it was not *illegal* to hold a charitiable event in central Ohio without Woody being in attendance, it simply wasn't done.

I never knew a man who cared less about money and more about people than Woody Hayes.

  • A lot of people don't know about Woody'sdistinguished record during World War II. He enlisted in the US Navy 7 months before Pearl Harbor; four years later,he was Lieutenant Commander Hayes, the Commanding Officer of the destroyer escort USS Rinehart..

  • Those of us who had the good fortune to know Woody (I first met him when I was in grade school) loved him wartsand all.

  • God Bless Woody Hayes

  • @cljenkins63 AMEN!

  • punched a player...man of honor...like Bobby Knight.

  • HE WAS A HECK OF A COACH.

  • Hayes got away with murder; punching players, shoving cameramen, running to the middle of the field during games to argue. He should have been fired years earlier, except winning covers a multitude of sins, I guess.

  • @jln55 you just dont get it do you? God bless Woody Hayes.

  • We miss you Woody!. Go Bucks!!

  • @eric090909 and he also ruined his name because he cant take a loss like a man

  • I remember watching the '78 Gator Bowl, it was a tough game for OSU and they were mounting a late drive for what would have been a winning field goal, when Bauman intercepted Schlichter's pass. I recall being utterly shocked when Hayes slugged him, Hayes being the head coach and all...and as far as I know, he never apologized for it. In truth, he was simply an angry, profane, rotten human being. It's amazing that in the last 30 years, sportsmanship has only gotten worse. Man of honor? Please..

  • @broadjumper1 And Bauman running his mouth on the OSU sideline was a beacon of sportsmanship? Woody Hayes was a great coach and a great human being. He had blood sugar issues late in life that caused him to have a temper and to be forgetful. Ironically, he did what he should have on that day.

  • @mareckbamf - Oh please! The coach of one of college football's most storied programs punched him for making a winning play in a Bowl Game! There's no acceptable excuse!

Hayes might have been a great x's & o's coach, but he was a shitty human being. there's more than enough proof of his lousy disposition. , Leonard Downie, Jr., a former editor of The Washington Post (a student at Ohio State in the 1960s) spoke of witnessing Hayes scream at a player to take off his helmet and punching him.

  • @broadjumper1 Fuck You Faggot. Go back to cheering for teams with a pussy coach!.

  • @intresselwetrust - Rightbackatcha slick, go back to cheering for a team that ALWAYS find ways to lose the BIG GAMES. Speaking of pussy coaches, nice sweater vest there, Jim!

The BIG 10... BWHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! That's some funny shit Skippy.

  • @broadjumper1

Don't worry Broadjumper...When your team gets eliminated, you can ALWAYS watch Ohio State win a BCS Bowl!!!

  • @intresselwetrust - WIN a BCS BOWL Game? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....thanks for that, it's always funny when OSU fans actually believe their team won't flame out in bowl game...

BTW - I truly enjoyed the ass-whippin' Wisconsin put on ya..Woody was a sociopath, Tressel's coaching style is right out of the days of the single wing, Pryor's a joke and OSU won't even be ranked in the top 20 at the end of the season...good luck BCS...LOL!

  • @broadjumper1

You said you remember watching the 78 Gator Bowl? Now I see your Alzheimer's is kicking in, because you said OSU can't win a BCS Bowl Game. So sad your condition is so advanced that you forgot about last years Rose Bowl Victory against "The Unstoppable" Oregon Team, and The Messiah, Jeremiah Massoli. He should be doing 5-10 right now. We get beat by a strong team and go from #1, to #12. Alabama gets beat by an unranked weak SC team, and goes to # 8 or 9. Great system.

  • @intresselwetrust - WOOT! Skippy was actually right about something for a change! You DID win a BCS Game! Be glad about that cause it''ll be the last one you play in for a while...OSU still sucks ass and Tressel runs an arcahic offense...be glad he schedules cream puffs for ya like Eastern Michigan, Ohio from the Mid-American and Marshall...at least Woody TRIED to play competitive teams

  • @broadjumper1 2009 Oregon in the Rose Bowl 2010 Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl

Creampuffs? Home and home with USC , then home and home with Miami Fl.?

Home and home with Cal, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma coming up.

  • @kentamitchell - yeah, CREAMPUFFS! OSU's strength of schedule was # FORTY last season and in recent years you've faced such stalwarts as:

    Marshall

    East Michigan

    Youngstown State

    Akron

Any team that regularly schedules 1-AA teams has no room to claim they play tough schedules.

  • @broadjumper1 LOL! How about Appalachian State? (and you forgot *Toledo* :)

  • @intresselwetrust - LOL! It's great that you still trust sweater-vest boy, cause the NCAA sure doesn't anymore...get ready for vacated wins, a postseason ban and scholarship restrictions to be followed by Tressel's dismissal ...all the shit you clowns talked about USC comin' rightbackatcha!

  • @broadjumper1 You are right sir!... He is guilty...Unlike Pete Carroll who "Didn't know that Reggie was a cheat", and Cam Newton "Who didn't know his dad was trying to sell him to the highest bidder", and Dick Rod; "Who Didn't know that he was going over on practices so he could win at least 4 games this past season"..

NEWS FLASH!!!! OSU will not fire a coach who took his team to 3 national championships with 1 win; and several BCS Bowl Games in 11 years. He is a truly WINNING Coach!!!

  • @intresselwetrust - Pleeeze, no coach is irreplaceable (especially one who the NCAA is pretty much calling a bold-faced LIAR). Pretty soon all you "Tressell trusters" will be calling for his hide when the REAL punishments come down, if he lasts long enough to see what those sanctions will be.

Enjoy it while you can, cause pretty soon they'll be sayin' OS-Who? as the Suckeyes slide into mediocrity...thatt'll be FUN to watch! Hey, maybe Marshall & Akron will be worthwhile matchups afterall!

  • @intresselwetrust If you and broadjumper1 want to exchange insults,go right ahead-but do you think maybe you could find another site?

  • @broadjumper1 If you want to call Jim Tressel everything but a Precious Child of God, go ahead, it's a free country. However, do you think that *maybe* the two of you could take it someplace else?

  • @kentamitchell - Or, maybe you can grow a PAIR and learn to deal with opinions you don't like...I don't have anything against Tressell, I just saying that when it comes to honesty and compliance with NCAA rules, there's barely a hairs bit of difference among ANY of the elite programs. They all look for ways to skirt the rules, OSU included. They only come to Jesus when they get caught dirty....

  • @broadjumper1 LOL! Ironically enough, I'm a lawyer, so I deal with opposing opinions *every* working day of my life. My point (which perhaps you fail to grasp) is that since Woody was fired in 1978 & died in 1987, there's nt much of a connection btwn him & OSU's present difficulties. But if you want to be the pig in the parlor, troll away.

  • @kentamitchell - Ironic? Go back to school and should learn the proper use of the word, Alanis because there's nothing ironic about you being a lawyer, the world's full of 'em. And no, your point wasn't a particularly subtle one, but our comments weren't intended to draw parallels in the first place. But like most "lawyers", you believe people give a shit what you think when the truth is your a cancer on society.. Best of luck chasing ambulances...

  • @broadjumper1 Isee that *you're* one of those unfortunates who wasted *your* time in school-and never learned the distinction between a contraction and a possessive. Sad, how very sad.

  • @kentamitchell - Isee? You mean I see? School-and? Really? Hyphenated? A new combination? With your attention to detail I'm certain you've been a great addition to the Jacoby & Meyers legal team...as a proof reader... Seriously shyster, if "you're" gonna critique the grammatical errors of others, at least TRY to avoid making an ASS out of yourself in the process...If you got a problem with that, sue me. You're a lawyer (sure you are), you can't help it.

  • @kentamitchell Iam simply having fun with Broadjumper1. I don't have any hard feelings towards him. This is what guys do, they argue over their favorite teams. If you were a real guy, then maybe you would know that.

  • @intresselwetrust *sigh*.Ok,Woody was a good friend of mine.I loved him like a favorite uncle and I still miss him.

So, maybe you two could take your argument someplace else, like maybe a Tressel site?

  • @kentamitchell - Yeah, Woody's a GREAT guy, just like Bobby Knight, lol...just don't make the mistake of intercepting a pass in front of him...

  • @broadjumper1 Well, its the end of the season! Ranked #6 and Beat the SEC's 2nd best! bahahaha, you talk too much & I think you literally get off on it. I like your use of the word ALWAYS...its only been a few games in the past few yrs...not so much ALWAYS huh?

  • @CTheGreenMan - LOL! With a QB that should have been declared ineligible (and won't be back anyway) to beat a mediocre Arkansas team in bowl game nobody cares about....congrats, now OSWho is 1-9 lifetime agaisnt the SEC in bowl games...WOO!

  • @broadjumper1 Yeah, But I'm sure you thought Pryor was the greatest thing in the world before he chose OSU.

  • @intresselwetrust - And you'd be wrong....what else is new?

  • @broadjumper1 He was punched becuz he was standing there after the play staring the osu bench down talkin shit, not classy, not sportsman like, so woody gave him some of his own medicine

  • @CTheGreenMan - Riiight, dude, you're almost as delusional, as Shoddy Hates...he was a crazy old fuck and that was the straw that broke the camel's back...fired by the university in disgrace, NEVER to coach again...Bauman shoulda clothed-lined his dumbass, but he had far more class that Shoddy Hates

  • @mareckbamf wow your fucking stupid. blood sugar doesnt make you have a temper or be forgetful. osu fans are so stupid.

  • "I can do your job, you can't do mine." Eat it bitches.

  • The thing ilke about woody was kicked mich ass and usc many times

  • @vhrocks4 but USC had the last laugh in the '75 rose bowl lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!! learn how to spell!

  • Bear is the greatest at least in college but Woody is one of the best ever for sure

  • @paulfenderply57

Is all Bear Bryant did was make his team practice in 110 Degree heat without water...OOOOHH, What A Super Hero!!!

  • whats the problem with woody hayes.

  • the best of the best...A man of honor, a patriot..and one hell of a coach and motivator.God bless Woody Hayes.

  • @barbienefouse a man of honor who punches players who intercept his qb..... right

  • @barbienefouse u mean the coach who punched a clemson player during the gator bowl and retired the next day????????????

  • The greatest coach ever??? I don't know. Maybe there were/are coaches out there who could out-coach him, but a better person there are probably none.

  • Amen!

  • who would out coach woody? tha man has 4 nat'l champs by himself. and countless victories....who is better?

  • Woody Hayes was the greatest coach to ever live.
