You cant ever measure his potential without having played a full 82 game season. Even then thats only one season. With the right training and maturation Greg could have been a great defensive presence in the league. (still can)
The fact is Greg Oden was never that exceptional of a player at all. Rudimentary offensive game, foul-prone, questionable motor and the slightest incident leads to severe injuries. He wasn't better than Kevin Durant in high school or college and it's laughable to compare then as NBA players.

This was not a bad fall. His injury was fallowed by tons of blazer injuries including their coach. It's as if they are cursed or have a spell on them. Oden might be done in Portland, but he may yet be able to salvage a decent career.

You're right sometimes there are guy who you should know will be perma-injured, like Yao Ming. What I meant to say is that sometimes guys who have a history of perfect health sometimes get hurt as a rookie and never really recover from it. As a NFL fan, it is much more common there.

@Elthenar Nah, usually they DO hide it or downplay it as a way to make their value stay the same. In the NFL, its all about how uh, banged up or a kind of physical specimen a player is. Also in question is the motivation, which is why stars like Cadillac Benson who got taken in higher rounds settle for their rookie paycheck but never fight their way back to improve their shape. Which is a strong indicator of how their NFL careers may pan out, despite their talents.

@newagepun Are you talking about Cedric Benson or Caddilac Williams? Benson did have some work ethic issues, but he seems to have gotten over that and became and really productive back. Caddy suffered some catastrophic injuries that probably should have injured his career, but that guy busted his ass and made it back. As a Bucs fan, I can tell you Caddy is a guy all players should look up to......that guy has 0 quit in him.

He was also offensive rookie of the year in 2005. The guy tore the patellar tendon on both knees back to back. Just one of those has ended many careers. I watch every game that I have time to see and there is no way anyone should see them as a dirty team.
