Name one German beer than can fuck with Pliny the Younger or a Three Floyds IPA. You don't know your beers dude. Look at any top beers list and there's nothing from Germany. By the way, when you're tasting a beer for the first time, you're supposed to take a full sip of at least a couple ounces. That weak ass first sip you did looked like less than a single ounce. That's NOT you do that! It saddens me that you ruined your virginal experience with the Westy 12.

Saint Bernardus, Rochefort, Achel are the top 3 Trappist brands as far a taste goes. Chimay, Westmalle and Westvleteren are all over rated garbage if I may say so myself. Then Koningshoven (La Trappe) is pretty good. Affligem Triple is an awesome beer too although not a trappist beer,

While i agree that the Rochefort 10 is one of the best trappist beers, I'm going to have to strongly disagree with your assessment that Westvleteren is garbage. I had the 12 a few days ago and it was indeed the best beer ever in my opinion. Always take into consideration the possibility that you had a bad bottle. I had some Orval that tasted like fish, and I'm sure it was just a bad one. Give it another shot before you talk too much shit.

Over my 30 years of drinking beers- Belgian beers are my favorites, and Trappist Ales are my very favorite! The Westvleteren 12 is the most complex ale I have ever tasted. The Rochefort 10 is an excellent 2nd... it's the closest thing to the Westy 12, since it's more readily available for us here in the USA.

those ratings are just based upon opinions ok there are ratings or serious beertasters but then again ther are maybe 100 times more ratings of people who only drunk 10 different beers in their life ... and that's what makes u get such high rates for westvleteren , also it's very hard to get this beer and that's also one of effects , people blow there own mind because they finally can drink this hard to get beer , you best try 6yr orval or la trappe quadruppel 100 times better than westvleteren

The most important thing about drinking Belgium beers and especially Trappist beers is to let it warm up.

Never drink a Belgium straight out of the fridge.

its just such a shame that some countries still believe that they have greater beer then belgians. its proven that its not. most of the countries just brew blonde beer or as we call it pils and dont even know what fruit beers are. if u drink a trappist like west-vleteren you should at least know it is not brewn like a normal beer and some people even dare to compare it with heineken on some videos.
