It is not strange that they are on the grass, captive spider monkeys also spend time on the ground. They realize that they do not have to worry about predators! Spider monkeys also scent rub. They will use anything smelly to rub on their chests, onions, celery, coffee grounds etc.

I work at the Louisville Zoo and the wooly monkeys are not stressed they have fun all day...whats not shown in this video is the trees...there is several in there area.
Must be grubs. Larvae. Big delicacy for so many species. Aye-ayes have a VERY special finger that evolved especially for digging grubs out of just such small places.
You know what I find strange about all of yhem, is that they are on the grass. Wooly monkeys spend most of their lives on trees. Clearly the monkey is stressed.
Ok, ignore all of the previous ignorant comments. Your footage shows a woolly monkey indulging in a completely NATURAL behaviour, one which it is likely it would not exhibit if it where stressed. It is known as 'chest rubbing', it involves spitting on an object to moisten it and then rubbing it on the scent glands on its chest to 'claim' it. The 'sniffing' is the spitting and the 'rocking' is the chest rub. You have filmed completely normal and very interesting behaviour in healthy animals!
I have heard that species has the strongest tail of any monkey, look at how big it is. Amazing.

@woollymonkeyuk Thanks! I wasn't sure and the professors I had at the time didn't know what it was either. Your response is very helpful! :)
