I just planted some banana trees in Arizona and not sure what kind they are, would anyone be able to tell what kind they are? I have some videos on my channel showing them but just not sure what they are.
i have been growing Musa basjoo outdoors since the 1980's and all I use is Bubble plastic wrapped around each trunk to protect them in the winter. Works like a charm for me.
I live in Pine Bluff, Arkansas Zone 7b/8a and ive tried 3 different ways of storing and i was successful each way...Easiest way is to cut to ground after frost.Cover mound with a large sheet of plastic...Or cover with a heavy duty black garbage bag.Place fall leaves(i use oak)or mulch over mound....Uncover in spring....I like to use old leave b/c each year they break down and becomes food for my banana..after a couple of years...u have great black soil the banana can feed on...
Musa basjoo are root hardy to at least -20 C. I have been growing them ourdoors for 20 years and I use bubble plastic to wrap the trunks. I also mulch the ground with leaves. The first killing frost takes care of the foliage for me.
well it hasnt rotted out my pseudostem. you got some sunny days in the winter you know. the fiberglass insulation will dry again.mulch the bottom and uncover it occasionally, and let the corm and roots get air on warm winter days. cover the foot at night again so the frost does not freeze the ground damaging the corm.the idea is not letting the cold weather freeze the water contained in the stalk or let the cold freeze and damage the root system. i live in georgia and it works.cold and wet kills.

This does not show how to keep the corm from rotting!
Nor does it show how to keep water out!
All this is going to do is rot the pseudostem!
