  • i like your choice of guitar and neck

  • @StyleAco This one is a Fender strat. Highway One :)

  • Awesome lessons dude, are you using a metal pick???

  • ECONOMY PICKING ON ALL OF THE SHRED?

  • @edushreds In this particular video I use economy picking and / or sweeping. But it varies. Most often I use alternate picking but there's just some things that are best played with economy picking. Take the path of least resistance when in doubt :o) Thanks for commenting

  • @wizardofshred yeah man. but i still have my doubts u know. i've studing shredding for like a year or two and obviously that i've become a much better player. i've paul gilberts, michael angelo, john petrucci, etc. shred methods. And this are MAB (Michael Angelo Batio) words: "The less I have to move, the faster I can be". makes sense don't you think? so if we put it this way, economy picking is better than alternate. why? because i have to move less. what do u think?

  • @edushreds It's not fair to say that economy picking is the best because it's a matter of what sound you are after. Consider the sound of malmsteen compared to the sound of Paul Gilbert. Pauls picking style sounds a lot different that Mr. Malmsteens. Economy picking sounds more fluent, more like legato, while alternate picking gives you a more even sound rhythmically. And there are things you cannot play with economy picking and things you can play much better with economy picking.

  • @edushreds My advice would be to go for both. It's not twice the work, because learning one picking style will make it easier for you to learn the other. There's also no difference in speed, in my experience, although alternate picking involves more effort when shifting strings, it's quite possible to perform them as fast as those of economy picking simply because you have breaks in between the string shifting (A concept a little too complex to explain here :o) I hope this makes sense?

  • @wizardofshred yeah man kinda.... so you're saying that malmsteen uses economy picking more that alternate picking? and what things can't you play with EP (econny picking)? im just saying man, and i'm asking you simply because you are a way better shredder than i am ;) man maybe we could talk on MSN or faceboook.

  • @edushreds EP requires you to have an uneven number of notes per string in order for you to be able to sweep from one string to another. If you don't incorporate a bit of alternate picking into this technique, it will limit you at times. Malmsteen uses almost only EP but then he blends it with AP when he must. I suggest you start with EP and then develop some AP afterwords :o)

  • @wizardofshred edushreds i challenge you to a guitar battle!

  • What picks/size picks do you use?

  • @PGM992 I use bronze metal picks from a company called "DR picks" :-)

  • im curious but does a scalloped neck make you play faster with more control or what?

  • @someweirdkid95 In my experience, no. But it does make the playing experience more comfortable because you don't have to play the wood but only the strings. Yuo can be more effective when you do hammer ons and pull offs. Bending and not "loosing the string" becomes very, very easy as well.

  • You rock, I subscribed to your videos and checked out you website. I wish I was as good as you.

  • @NisseEricsson Thanks a lot. If you rephrase your statement to say "I demand to be as good as you" then you will be :) All the best

  • Great playing man. Great picking hand!

  • @bbanio Thanks a lot! :)

  • this sounds so exotic

  • paul johann gilbsteen?

  • I went to your site, but didn't find this exactly lick. Made me sad :/

  • Ooo scalloped neck?

  • Yes : )

  • i wonder how fast he can type on a computer

  • How many years you have playing??

  • A lot. But it doesn't take you more than a couple of years to develop skills like these if you're dedicated. Thanks for commenting!

  • Once again, you've taken an awesome technique & expanded it as well as morphing it into something that's your very own. BRILLIANCE TIMES 10!!!

  • Thank you very much! : )

  • If I could get a guitar with low action for once in my life I wouldn't have that strong touch u guys are talking about. But when I do my hands slowly lighten up and are confused...why don't we feel anything? Are we messing up? Idk...I can't tell...lol.

Very nice string skipping though fellow shredder. I tend to legato most of my fast string skips due to lack of picking cleanliness. It seems to be a very common problem with a lot of guitarist.

    Thanx for sharing your wisdom.

  • are your frets scaloped?

  • Yup : ) It's addictive

  • i have too heavy of a touch, my notes all go 0out of tune on scaloped frets :/

  • A strong grib and a scalloped neck doesn't go together. But it's great to have a powerful touch though!

  • yea.... i didnt even realize till i bought a guitar with extra jumbo frets and my notes kept going out of tune

  • I bet you have a killer hand shake : )

  • i do, since i was like three lol. i gots big strong hands, thats why i started playing guitar.

  • cool

  • Glad you liked it

  • Shreds!
