Dudes i heared today that if you add up all the funding that america has ever given nasa in there intire history. It still doesnt compaire even close to the cost of the iraq war. Why dont we just spend a some on space ships and educator salaries. Instead of making so many bombs!
@altha2008 Sadly all too true. I was reading Red Mars/Green Mars over the summer and I was struck by the fact that the terminal political-economic decline on Earth is coming far ahead of the time predicted, but the colonisation of Mars is receding into the distance.
this lander always looks like a death trap to me. Jettison the chute and then hover in something that looks like it wants to topple over at any moment. Give me 4 nice wide legs like a LEM
Before we think about sending a manned mission to Mars we need to send a manned mission into space ahve it land somewhere back on Earth then relaunch without assistance from anyone but those in the vehicle. If we can't do that we certainly cant do it on Mars.
@belisariusorb Mars has a similar atmosphere and gravity as Earths. If we can't perform a launch re-entry and unassisted relaunch here on Earth how are we going to do it on Mars?
@atlante2020 You're absolutely right - I tried to suggest Russian involvement with some dialogue, flags, etc, but I didn't have time to incorporate their Orbiter addons in this video.
I hope the West and Russia will remain "friends" for long enough for a post-ISS co-operative project to get under way.
mars is like nitrogen very cold if only the multi billions had been used for fixing earth we all might still have a place to live they say nothing lasts forever guess they didn't include 500,000 plus tons of highly radioactive waste and would personally like to view one of these containers built to hold highly radioactive waste for 240,000 years
1. It was sad you not showing the module command re-entry;
2. Nice soundtrack (love Prodigy);
3. Only thing wrong in your vid: you can´t pull off a "lunar ascent module" solution: Mars´s gravity is 2/3 of Earth. It would take a Rocket (a launcher) a little smaller than the one that flew on Earth to both put the command module in orbit and accelerate it to earth orbit injection.
1. It's not as interesting as you think, at least not in Orbiter. The heat effects only last for a few seconds and they're not very dramatic. I don't have the skills to create my own effects.
2. Every time I hear Prodigy I start seeing images, usually of something going very fast. If you like them, I think you'll love Aphex Twin and Pendulum too.
3. Actually Mars gravity is only 1/3 of Earth's (2.7 m/s/s for Mars and 9.8 m/s/s for Earth. Later I'll post more details.
You're right about my mistake, coming from my poor memory: Mars gravity is 3.725 m/s/s as you said. However, a simple calculation (9.807 divided by 3.725) gives us 2.632 - Earth gravity is 2.6 times greater than Mars.
1 divided by 2.6 is 0.384 - just a little over a third (0.33) and nowhere near two-thirds (0.67). Please pardon my mistake, but check the calculations before you say Mars gravity is 2/3.
thumbs up on the number of sonic booms. they rock.

I hope I live to see the day if it ever comes. No one seems to know about the dangerously high level of radiation on mars.

@chubbypekingnese I disagree, we need to be a lot more daring in our exploration of space. The spirit of Apollo will get us there

You forgot the russians. Their participation and know-how would be very important in a project of this kind.

Go to Orbit Hangar and search Mars for Less. The Ariane and the Ares I are separate

Mars gravity is 3.75 m/s/s. So it´s roughly 2/3 the Earths Gravity.
Where did you see Mars gravity was 2.7 m/s/s? It´s incorrect.

With Wich software did you do the kind of Camera view at the booster's seperations?
Samberu 3 years ago
The whole thing was recorded by FRAPS in Orbiter, then edited with the crummy Microsoft Movie-Maker thing packaged with Windows.
In Movie-Maker there's a visual effect called "grainy film" (I think, my software is in Spanish)which gives you that grainy effect.
