SyFy is doing a movie which is premiering February 25, 2012. It's called Witchslayer Gretl. Also check out SyFy's movie Alice. I know with SyFy it's usually hit-or-miss, but trust me this was definitly a hit when I saw it; I would just like to get your thoughts on it.
I want Fables on my shelves...as for Once Upon a Time, I got angry at it for not taking their idea to what it could be, it feels like its pandering and like Grace said, "lite" and that's not me, I prefer to watch Mad Men, Weeds, and Supernatural without any sugar coating. I forgive Supernatural on their many cop-outs because I know they have budget limitations.
It's weird how they were developing that 'Fables' show a few years back, but instead it seems to have split into OUaT and Grimm, and both shows seem to be doing very well to the point where I don't think a Fables show is possible now.
Great episode. But don't be afraid to give us a little bit more background on the comics being discussed. Haven't read fables, but they look interesting to a Gaiman fan like me.
@MariaVosa Thanks for the feedback! Next time I will be sure to include a little more info on the comic book being discussed. And check out Fables! :)
I love Once Upon a Time!! It has its cheesetastic moments but i love it all the same! I havent yet read fables, but i have been researching and it just seems so daunting, but i think i will give it a try, mostly cause I love all the older comic books (Marvel and DC universe)
@THINKAboutTheINK I've never read comic books before, but with the emergence of comic book movies, TV shows, etc., I really want to read the source material. The thing is I have no idea where to start. Could you do an episode where you tell new comic books readers the comic books they should read first? For me, I love the X:Men. I watched all the movies and the 90s animated show. So should I read Ultimates first or something else? And what is X-Force?. Thanks and sorry for the long-winded post!
I haven't read Fables so I can't comment on the similarities between Fable and Once Upon a Time. I can only say that I love Once Upon a Time. It's a little campy, soap opera-ish with great mythology. It's great.
Im really into Grimm, while I enjoy Once Upon a Time I don't see how they are going to make it last more than a couple seasons with out dragging it out.
I haven't seen "Once Upon a Time" but I love Fables and wouldn't mind watching a Fables TV show or movie. At least make the Jack Trilogy that existed in the Fables books.
@THINKAboutTheINK She's one of my favorites. :D I watched a old, old cartoon when I was a kid that told the story of Rose Red, Snow White, and the bear prince. I've always been the only kid that's known about Rose Red. Haha.
YeahI totally think you should check out Once Upon A Time. I have not read fables and I might be pissed off too. But I do find that it is a rather good show. Very intense. They are not afraid to do away with main characters!
I honestly don't think that either Snow White movie well be very good. I enjoyed this episode but if you are looking to improve, this felt more like I was watching a BTT, then a new comic book show. I am not saying i didn't enjoy it, just wasn't what i expected
Great episode! I love Fables! I thought it was one of the most original story lines in a long time when it came out. If anyone hasn't read it, I suggest they pick it up. :)
Grace, I love how since you have had jobs in the comic book industry, that you know what you're talking about. Too often there are women that say they're geeky or nerdy and they've never even considered watching Star Trek, reading the Losers (Sorry if you don't like that one), or playing MegaMan X. You genuinely care about the material you talk about, whether it be movies or comics, and it really comes through in your reviews. Thank you for not being fake.
In Mirror Mirror the eyebrows on Snow White are huge. Hansel and Gretel seems cool. Grimm seemed interesting but the main character doesn't have the charisma to carry the show. The writing needs some help too. Hollywood needed a relatively untapped genre and fairy tales is it for now. During bad economic times people want to escape their lives and escaping to a fairy tale world might be the way.
Loved it! Your new channel made me get a fidelity card at my comics/manga shop!
By the way, I found Grimm really horrible in the beginning but I kept watching it (I must be the optimistic kind) and the latest episodes were ok+, I thought they added a lot of humor and found their own "personnality". Good when it goes this way, too bad if it's too late...
i never read the Fables comic so i had no idea Once Upon a Time was so similar, but while watching the second episode i kept thinking to myself that the show will probably get cancelled. i kept watching the series anyways and it grew on me. it's now the only show i watch on the weekends since the Walking dead won't be back until February.
Supernatural is a great show that sometimes deals with fables and lore, though the most recent seasons are mostly about demons but it's an amazing show
@lijolienable wellthe twlight fans will like SNowwhite and the Huntsman. Mirrror mirror looks like a live action family version of SNow white. But I prefer Mirrror Mirror because I hate Kristen Stewart. But the best live action Snow WHite is the Tale of Terror with Signorney Weaver as the Witch.
@biguy617 I've never heard of 'Tale of Terror,' maybe I'll check that one out! I still don't know about 'Mirror, Mirror' though... I'm not the biggest Julia Roberts fan (she's the witch i believe), and it's just not dark enough for my tastes. I dislike Kristen Stewart as much as anyone else, but I'm willing to stomach her performance in 'Huntsman' for the sake of Charlize Theron as the evil wicked witch! She's BAD-ASS in the trailer!!
When I saw the trailer for Jack the Giant Killer my first thought was "crap, Jack Horner really does own hollywood"

Haven't read Fables yet, but will check it out one day. Once Upon A Time I found boring and poorly executed.

@elad463 Hmm, I dunno. I think outside of Fables she's not that big a deal, so it would have to be Fables related. Is she your fave character?
