  • I highly highly suggest to have a Operating Floppy Disk first. put the floppy disk in reboot select the fourth selection wait for the DOS type>> format C: after the format, reboot select the second selection(and put windows 98 CD in) type the CD drive location code(like R: E: ...etc) wait for the DOS type setup don't eject the floppy disk before the completion of the install
  • Hi, I'm trying to install windows, yet everything I do points to the fact that it may have no hard drive, but when I open it up, I see the hard drive specified on the front of the machine. Why isn't it recognising it, and how do I get it to recognise it?

  • @Mindstormscreator lo butti giù dalla finestra e ne prendi uno nuovo :D

  • Can you still buy a disc, so you can install windows 98.

And another question, can you also install windows XP instead?

  • @larstog94 Old computers from back then were made for one Windows System and One windows system only.

I mean you could install XP, but it may go super slow and not work as you may want it to.

  • tell properly frend plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • tnx for sharing sir..

  • hi friend can u give me the exact name of the disc u r using if i m not wrong the disc contains some programs related to Hard Drive Low level Formatting Please Give me the download link for that ISO file Thanks Brother

  • bad information!!!

  • when it completes formating the c drive you have to type d:\win98\setup which will load the setup of win98.After that it should be easy,it's similar to xp

  • okay well i found just the disc for it so i dont have the manual or anything so do i need the product key or anything?

  • THANKS

  • For sure regular Format c: does not erase everything. The registry probably still remains. I can tell cuz certain settings are the same. So I ran Fdisk to delete everywhere possible. Next thing I know upon "setup" the computer stumped upon checking the registry and would not start reloading even with ROM support. So now I did format c: /s then entered Setup and it worked. Still not sure if it completely erased.

  • @metalschooldrill Format C: cleans only C: partition.

  • Note the below method does not erase the registry. And if you do erase the registry by deleting partitions in the fdisk procedure the computer might not reload up Window 98 when you type setup

  • Search 'windows 98 security update for web connections". If you want to go to the internet with 98 you have to 1st have IE6, the internet will crash it otherwise. I was able to have a half website crash by not hitting OK after the first Icon with the red alert symbol. Thus as it was crashing I still downloaded IE6. See below "what others are downloading" to get all relevant 98 updates such as the high encryption pack. There seems to be about 3-4 other downloads that may improve things

  • How can i Reinstall 98 using CD ROM???thanks

  • I just pulled it off a 2nd time w/98. You must have a 98 boot floppy disk ready. In BIOS enable the swap floppy+boot seek to boot the 3.5 disk+change boot seq to prime drive A. In DOS, you change the drive letter it does not change the drive just yet. Type Dir to see the drive contents. Start w/no CD support. Type C: then type 'format c:' to erase the C drive, eject floppy to be safe. Reboot w/floppy + 98 disk in ROM. Select CD support. In D drive (D: to change to D) type 'setup'. (see next post

  • @hellearl24 U can install it only from ORIGINAL Windows 98 cd-rom boot disk.

First u must to run computer and boot it from cd-rom. Than run 2nd option (run windows 98 bootdisk with cd support). Than type x: (x is letter of your cd drive) and click Enter. Than type cd win98 and click enter. To format partition type format C: (or enother). After format, type setup.exe to run installator.

  • @hellearl24 First you get a dos 6.22 bot disk, first format the disk using format c: then restart the computer and then at the ms-dos prompt from the bootdisk do an fdisk c: and select "delete primary dos partition" (option 3 I belive) after that has finished then eject the diskette insert the windows 98 cd-rom and restart, at the first boot screen select the "boot from cd-rom" option then select "boot windows 98 setup from cd-rom" and follow the onscreen instructions.

  • @hellearl24 windows 98 came with the floppy hes useing, and the cd, the cd is NOT bootable (most BIOS back then could only boot from floppy)

  • Is it windows 98 or windows 98 Second Edition?

  • i put in fdisk like at 1:30 and it saids no fixed disks present whats wrong?

  • you probably have to install the controller card drivers for your motherboard, as it may be unsupported. Look up your motherboard manufacturer's website and read the manual to see what type of hard drive controller you have.

  • Where's the second part??? I now cannot install Windows 98 because I don't know what to type after the formatting process when I get to A:/

Any clue? I even tried typing in, "setup"

  • type "SETUP.EXE" ;D

  • Uhm, it says it's a bad or unknown command.

  • if you are running it from a cd when it starts make sure you start with cd rom support then type the cd drive then a colon for example D:

now it will look like D:\>_

the type setup.exe the finished command should be

    D:\>setup.exe

  • I'm using an iso because I don't know where my Windows 98 Setup CD is.

  • if you are using an actual computer then burn the iso to a cd-r not rw it will not read rw even if your computer supports one it will not read it so burn to cd-r then insert and do the stuff in the previous comment

if you are using virtual pc from microsoft then go to cd and capture iso image then select your iso and do the stuff in the previous comment

  • how did you get to the part at 0:26

  • don`t forget windows XP is NT based.

  • if you slice your HDD in two, you can use one for recovory.

  • I love old computers.

  • i have an IBM thinkpad t23....which has removable floppy and CD rom devices...so i only have one optical drive at once...so i how do i partition and then install if i only have one avaliable??

  • one time i clicked on dos mode for games and it reset my computer and i still cant get out of dos every time i reset my computer it still sends me back to dos mode i put in exit plus win and it still sends me back to dos mode plus it still saids expaned memory (EMS) support i tipe exit and win and it still wont go back to windows 98???

  • yes u can buy a new hard drive

  • Ok so im just wondering.. does anyone know what i can do, im trying to reinstall vista on my laptop but i keep getting an error, code 0x80004005, apparently i dont have enough disk space for temporary folders. ive tried to format my partition but that didnt work, and ive also tried another method i found on the microsoft website but it wouldnt let me do that either... anyone have any thaughts? they would be much appreciated.

  • how did you get windows 98 boot and work with cd

  • Thanks for the video! I did it with my old Gateway collecting dust in the corner for 5 years, and Windows 98 lives again! And it's pretty fast too.

Screw Windows 7...its all about about retro computing!

  • i have DELL DIMENSION XPS T600 With Phoenix BIOS And BIOS Beep. My Fixed Disc Was Maxtor. It Reboots. Come Over And See The Problem It Was.

  • what do i have to do after 9:32 ??

  • WOW YOU hAVE A BETTER PC THAN ME! lol... thnx.. i installed it and freezes

  • whats teh HD size limit that 98 sees..on 2000 its 130gb

  • I am not sure because I know that MS has send updates with a solution. The Problem is, that old BIOS version does not support large HD drives. It is important to use fat32. If you create partitions it will work. I am sure.

  • I have followed all the instructions and has goes fine until it begins to format, it says something about bad sectors and will go on for hours. any ideas

  • Everything scemes to work but when I come to formatting it says something about bad sectors or something, Anyone help?

  • Perhaps your harddisc is corrupted or out of order. Did you only format it or did you use the fdisk command to create partitions?

  • help man k i did all the fdisk stuff but when installing 98 i go b: then b:dir

then i know u write setup but it says bad command or file name help me asap

  • and yes i put in the 98 cd and it does wor

  • What to do next?

    This video is not complete!

  • Because they're trying to get you to buy their book and/or video! :O

  • It is very simple. After the c drive is formated you should change to your cd drive. In this case you type in e: in the command box and confirm with enter. The next step is to start the installation from the win98 cd. The right command is "setup.exe". After confirming with enter, the installation wizard will start. If I have more time, I will try to create a capture moovie.

  • Thank you so much Romario2007!

    You were very helpful :)

Couldn't have make it with out you...

  • No Problem!

    For further questions ask me...

  • I cant format C:

    Pls help...

  • well, what is your problem? Do you yous win 98 as your normal os or do you use it in as a virtual machine? Does your pc boot?

  • How is this not complete?

  • does it wrk with a virtual hard drive???????

  • DBAN seems to work better for destroying the HardDrive info.

When your installing windows you may want to copy the files from CD to a CAB folder. You need to create folders via typing keywords. I remember the last part which is:

The following means copy files from CD to HardDrive:

    Keyword: D: *.* C:

LOL, though I forgot the other steps.

  • NEED HELP when i type in A:\>format c: its say Bad command or file name ???? what do i do?

    PLEASE HELP

  • Oh... got. It's simplest way to reinstall Windows 98 and windows 98 SE. You click START - Shut Down - Restart on mode MS-Dos and you write command ,,format C:"

  • It is a very interesting option. Hoever this method, does not allways work. If you have not installed the right cd rom drivers, you are not able to use in the commandbox. You will get the error message. Drive not found.

  • can i just use my XP cd to partition and then install 98?

  • When you have 256 mb ram - YES, when you have lots of 256 mb ram it's not possible.

  • The Ram is not important. You can use 2GB RAM. The Problems are the sttings of Max- and MinFile from the win.ini. The Problem is not the Hardware. If you want to use the win xp cd, you should choose the fat32 format. This is often a mistake, that many people do, choosing ntfs.

  • dude u need to update

  • umm what if all partitionas are gone??

  • my fav. windows!

My 98 is working fine since 4 years :-)

  • my com... b4 is verry fast bat now my com...is verry slow what can i do. can u pls help me....

  • how do i get out of windows 98 cd load the screen shows a floppy disk and me to press f1 it don't let me go to setup on boot because at first i went to setup and i wanted to load only the cd-drive

  • hey if anyone knows how to detect my dcrom because it doesnt detect at all when i pop up the windows 98se and if something wrong with my windows then im fucked up..idont know how to do this thing thats why i reinstall and reinstall if i suspect if theres something now how am i goin to do the detection of this cd rom thanks help me out cya

  • Every time I've done this with used drives I don't let it restart

    I just bomb the partition

and create the new one all in the same Fdisk session and it's always worked for me

    that's

    > boot

    > delete primary partition

    > create primary partition

    > then restart

saved me some time, the only time I'd go the extra step is if the drive was suspected of having an mbr or boot sector virus then I'd take the extra step of exiting the fdisk session

  • hey peeps, btw great vids!i hope all is well with you!Basically i have just deleted and unisatlled some programmes and can not find they cds now!!So hows does one simply restore their computer, to the time before the original uninstalling??please thank you

  • anyone know how format a laptop with windows vista and reinstall the windows

  • I Do

But You Will Need A Windows XP Disk!

  • you need to access PQSERVICE partition in order to re-install the windows os that came with the system.

  • MUCH Handier Than GuineaPigPat's Video!

  • This remind me about my old pentium 2

  • Thanks, now I can install Windows 98.

  • This person did it right. Deleting the partition, rebooting, creating a partition...

it all makes sense, i have done this procedure many times before! a cinch

  • can some1 help me. i have a floppy disc of windows 98 and i tried it on virtual PC and i typed in fdisc at the fdisc oart and it keeps on saying bad command what should i do?

  • and it does the same thing with the ISO file

  • @Rocky54167 yes it does but iso is working on virtual pc

  • @Dariusjat holy shit hahahah i remember asking this i did it and found out what i needed 98 for it wasn't going to work

  • It might say bad command or file name, because it it could be bad hard drive, or it does not have enough space, u can try another hard drive...see what happens, i got that message too in the past...

  • uhh, it's fdisk, not fdisc

  • Rocky, go to the A: drive, type Setup.

For the ISO, go to the E: drive, type Setup.

  • how do I get into the start menu?

  • what if you lost your password? I bought a new PC and since I couldn't find my Millenium CdRom I just installed my Win98...little problem, I lost my password so now I can't install Millenium over it...what I do now? anyone knows?

  • Can you make a second part of this on how to get to the setup screen?

  • cool vid for those people who have never installed a os.

  • where's part 2???

  • O M F G works for Virtual PC 2007 as well, thanks man I was at a loss, all this technology doing things for us lol

  • thanks bro

  • I have only used the floppy to erase the partition so if you have the full installation disc of Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE you can put it in and Windows setup will ask you to setup your drive and the setup will set it up and it will also format it for you and it will continue to install windows without even needing to restart your computer. Please note: The process I described up above only Works with the full install Windows 98 And 98 SE cd's it will NOT work with Upgrade discs.

  • Thank you
