  • whats amazing is how much the sport has progressed. Ueli did the climb with no ropes in 2 hours 45 . That is just mindblowing.

  • hmm.. what about climbing with parachutes?

  • there had been a (breathes hardly) Climb iT (bREATHES hARLDY) DAMN HE KEEPS TALKING AND THEN HE KEEPS BRETAHING AND BREATHING ALL LOUD

  • It tells you that he couldn't skydive

  • dumb ass { gravity is no accident }

  • I recommend to read the book written about John Harlin by his son (also named John Harlin). The book's called "The Eiger Obsession. Facing the Mountain That Killed My Father", published by Simon & Schuster in 2007.

In the book there is no mention of a video that anybody actually filmed the accident, so whatever is shown in this video is not the actual accident...

  • plese, in spanish

  • How can you rate a video when somebody actually dies?

    Poor man.

  • brave man, unlucky he didnt make it.

i would like to try climb it myself one day,

    great video!

  • until you have been to the eiger and looked up at the north face, then nobody can comment on this........

  • The reporter was on top of this right ? He saw that the rope was in a bad condition or? Why didn't he say it to them or why didn ' t they react ? I mean saving life is more important than success in a competition ...

  • the accident was the attempt itself

  • Hey douche bag! Maybe he has a hard time speaking about it because his Dad fell off a cliff.....I cant stand people like you. You live in the mid west and are not allowed to date outside the family.

  • very staged, or very unprepared, don't take chances with this shit.

  • Watch the guy in blues right glove just before the frayed rope section, looks like a demon then again just before he has a brief look at the fray and continues.Spooky coincidence !!!!

  • thick rope good.

    skinny rope bad.

  • that's a very unfortunate story... at least he died doing what he loved, that is more to be said than some people.

  • You mean "that is more than can be said"

  • Get some rest. You need your strength.

  • @norwejon he died doing what he loved. FALLING THOUSANDS OF FEET THINKING ABOUT THE SPLAT

  • @norwejon

I hear this line a lot and I kind of find it funny. What if I played videogames and died playing videogames?

  • oh frak!

  • its not 'mount eiger' its 'the eiger'. eiger means ogre in german so its translation is the ogre

  • ogre in standard German is "Oger".

Eiger (rather Eig'r) would be some local Swiss dialect..

  • wow hoe barve i can bearly go on an upside down roller coaster

  • 10 cm from the safe... that's faith

  • kiss my ice frozen cock you dumb fuck. you are one big loser in this life obviously with your biggest accomplishment masturbating with your miniature dick.

  • hy's falling very high!!!!!!

  • lol 1:56

  • It was soloed in 2:48 this month, so no probably not impossible.

    :D

  • Due to Global Warming, the Eiger is now officially falling apart due to the melt of the ice which stabilizes the whole face. I've read that it is no longer climbable, and is disintegrating rapidly...

  • How on earth would you know? You silly little upstart. Bloody grow up.

  • doesn`t death bivoauc just say it all? wouldn`t catch me anywhere near the Eiger

  • the rope is so little of diameter.. The first person who see the rope in bad conditions, have to advert!!

    nice jump

  • at least it would have been over quick for him, unlike toni kurz. next year will be the 70th anniversary of his death, google his name and read his horrifying ordeal

  • Noticed your comment on Toni Kurz, not sure if you have already seen 'The Beckoning Silence' on YouTube. It's a documentary about Toni Kurz and the rest of the team, narrated/presented by Joe Simpson (of Touching the Void fame), it's v good...

  • It's a re-enactment. What came to be known as the Harlin Direct on the Eiger Nordwand. None of the footage is from the actual climb when Harlin Sr. fell.

  • umm... was it a manakin they threw over the edge?

  • i couldnt figure that one out.., lol

  • its based on a true event

  • Dude, what does "re-creation of the fall" tells you ?

  • I wouldn't talk back after that dumb comment

  • to fall 4,000' with lots of gear would take more like 20 sec.

  • Who gives a fuck.

  • Clearly not you.

  • peace

  • That must be horrible. He must have know for like 7 seconds that he was going to die. That would be awful, the thought that "In a few seconds, I am going to die"

  • its must be awful feel of fall down..

  • yeah, they interviewed him after the death and he said it was pretty much a surprise - he was doing everything right, and it was most likely the mountains fault, not the ropes

  • your pulling my leg lol the mountains fault?? sorry has me ratflmao lol

  • if you havent seen the movie "touching the void" go get it. amazing story

  • Filmmaker Leo Dickinson recreated the fall footage which we used in this clip. He made a great film called Eiger Solo. I also should point out that the IMAX film on Harlin III's climb was just released. I saw it a few weeks ago and it was awesome.

  • i went climbing once...

  • is that actual footage?

  • wow thats gotta suck

  • The Blonde God. Thank you for this.

  • poor guy...*sniff*died...just like that...

  • I forgot to say, I've read and heard about John Harlin III's ascent of the Eiger in honor of your father. That had to have taken tremendous courage. It was very meaningful that you understood his passion for climbing enough to become a climber yourself, and particularly a climber of the caliber who could scale the Eiger.

  • I was looking for Eiger Solo today on DVD; I'm glad I found this segment of it. The death of John Harlin is one of the great tragedies of the great wall. My prayers go out to you and all who attempt it.

  • was that real footage of the fall?

  • no, the explanation of the video says the film includes a recreation of the fall.

  • Sad.

Moral of the story: Skinny ropes can get cut by sharp, jagged rocks.

  • woah....I mean....just like......that was so intense just......like horrible.......Wow.........That was a very long way to fall

  • that was some intense s@@@
