  • egotistic bastard c n r rao. india needs to get rid of people like him if it wants to make progress in science

  • Prof. Rao seems particularly disgusted with the IIT graduates...I must say that he speaks nothing but the truth about them.

  • lol an old delusional indian guy talking about india innovation? lol the biggest joke of the century. the top 5 patents producer of the world is 1st U.S 50,000+ annually, Japan, germany and China 12,000+ anually, and South Korea 8,000+ annually```

and at the very bottum of the table where india lies which produces less than 1,000 patents annually and on top of that 70% of the patents were owned by foreign entities`

  • @manofadventure

Prof Rao has shown from his own efforts how one can built strong scientific culture with more than 50 years of dedicated research. He has published more than 1500 papers and several books and many more achievements. This man might be old but his enthusiasm for science is unquestionably extraordinary than youngsters. so if he says...it should be taken with sincere spirit...

  • India will not go anywhere. Too much corruption and than there is the cast system. So far, for example, all the Indian drug industry is doing copying drugs from the Swiss, French and US companies. Tata and Infosys are exploiting cheap labour and exporting it to the US. Not really a country to invest in ...

  • @mesantanu27 Not sure what India is "at risk" of loosing on technological innovation since it has never innovated the way the US had. Almost all of the moder industrial industries were invented in the US and Europe - none from India or China. So there is really nothing for India to loose.

  • @linuxguru1968

no gain is nothing but loss...when we will understand this?

  • @nanoquanta what "gains" are you talking about? what is india not getting and why does it mattter?

  • @linuxguru1968 ,

The maximum number of patents from INdia are filed in the area of Chemistry /Pahrmaceutical/Biochemistry.........

Altough most of the pharrma companies do contractual reserch but still it is one of our major exports and our pharma industry has a lot of innovations to its credit......

  • @anant14 Not really, This biggest producer of patents for pharmacology is stil the National Institute of Health and universities in the US and Europe. Only pantents related to testing and proving drugs come from India. I guess because it is easier to find human guinnie pigs there.

  • in dream, its not possible untill the mindset of indians change

  • citing old achievements and hailing is not enough, the need of an hour is to implement new fresh ideas to push India ahead. contribute to nation after enough experience in abroad. and produce more children to take over tomorrows world

  • Yes, the US could never outsource enough jobs to fill the growing population. India needs to give up on exporting is cheap labor, dump Bill Gates and IT and concentrate on real infrastructure developement and jobs.

  • its frustrating...... quality education for all must be practised .......

  • Go around your house and find all the tangible artifacts that were INVENTED in India or china. I've found three from China(gunpowder, noodles and paper) and NONE from India. If past behavior is indicative of future behavior that shows you just how much India will contribute. Which Fortune 500 company did this guy found?

  • @linuxguru1968

yes we did not invent noodles, paper gunpowder. but we invented "0" and number "1-9" concepts of calculus, trigonometry etc; are these not enough. just know the history and comment. the world runs on our basics. thanq for you knowldege on india

  • Your assertion that "the basics" were all invented in India and spread from there is incorrect. Not sure what you mean by "concepts of calculus" but derivative, integral, numerical integration all came from Newton and Leibniz. For geometry and trigomometry the Greeks and Arabs played a much bigger part that anyone in India.

  • As I've pointed out in other posts, the native Maya of central America independenly invented the concept of zero, numbering systems and developed caculator for doing astronomical calculations. I don't see many Mayan H1Bs working at Microsoft and Intel!

  • i see you all over you tube on any thing tat involves Indian people demeaning us...shows ur nature and ur racist attitude go get a lifee.... and please let us live our lives.... ,my lord....

  • My comments are about H1B and the corporate execs and lobbyists that promote them. Its just that the biggest user of H1B is Inda. If you read my post carefully you will see that what I have said about the orgins of H1B apply to almost every country in the world - its just that China and India are the biggest users and deserve the most scrutiny about what the corps and lobbyists claim about the people they are bringing in to displace native born Americans.

  • @linuxguru1968 ,

I would agree with you on the visa point....both Americans...... India would benefit a lot if the US expels Indian origin PhDs(especialy in Scinece & Engineering) from US.... at least the recently graduated ones......

Most Americans are not going for science jobs because of cheap foreign Post Docs.....

  • >> and please let us live our lives....

    >> ,my lord....

Yes, but not here in the US on H1Bs or L1 visa. That era is over - massive deportations are on the horizen.

  • Even if you have the "basics" being developed in ancient India, it doesn't explain why ALL of the modern technological industries(innovations) came from Europe and America. India and China "sat" on them for 10K year and did nothing significant with them.

  • yes it does the europe[british your forefathers] looted us for 200 years stole our wealth killed us...came in the name of trade enslaved us with weapons and politics involving religion ... pushed us 200 years back.....

  • I've never said colonialism is a good thing and you are ignoring the fact that China, the number two biggest user of H1B, has had and still has an aggressive colonial policy - Tibet, Japan pre WWII also.

  • If India wants progress, it has to focus on three main things: poverty, corruption, and education.

  • "india might be the 12 largest economy"

    ???

    lol wut?

it's GDP PPP is almost 3.5 trillion. it's the third largest economy on Earth.

per capita, you are correct, wealth is greatly centralized. but the middle class grows.

indian government needs to give incentive for children of poor to go to school instead of work, get mental stimulation, proper nutrition, and not reproduce. Avg IQ will go way up.

after a cultural renniessance they can go back to fully free market and prioritizing human rights.

  • We can not remove corruption overnight but we can bring in transparancy if there is a political will and obligation.

Like the 'Right to Information' act we need a 'Right to access to information' act where the ruling govt is obliged to make available their expenses records online. And it must provide enough details like if you think the road contracter on your street did a poor job (5 ft instead of 7 ft) then you must be able to file a case and get the people responsible accountable.

  • India is not only the world's 12th largest economy but in gross purchasing power parity it is number three. What is means is that how the world values us puts us at no 12 but our true value is number 3. And also we have to pay more for oil/copper/coal/planes that we import but others pay less for importing Iron ore from us.

But India we know the truth is hardly considered seriously economics, military or now science and technology.

  • problem with india is the bureaucracy is very slow and people don't use their skills to build the country.

look at dubai, united arab emirates...they have some of the most futuristic skyscrappers and land marks, putting America to shame...and built by Indian hands for the most part.

India needs to refine its political system and eliminate corruption/poverty. easier said than done, but where there is a will there is a way....everything great starts with a vision...what vision do you see?

  • i agree.

india needs to centralize power greatly and socialize industry to accelerate infrastructure and social development and gear the nation towards military and technological innovation if india wishes to continue to compete with upcoming world powers (and current).

  • putting america to shame? have to ever been to New York?

  • Unfortunately, no body is interested in his life and science.

Do you people never learn to hear the true message of the talk presented?

  • Nehru gave india 'dynasty crazy'

  • fuck you

  • Nehru put indra in power

    Indra put rajiv in power

And assholes like you put Sonia (An italian who refused to become an Indian citizen for 16 years after marrying Rajiv)

Indra married Feroz 'Gahandi' and changed his name to 'gandhi' simply for politics.

The congress killed 5000 sikhs in 3 days in Delhi alone

    Forgot bofors

Read mitrokin archives -> Know about Indra and her Russian gigolos

  • Look what Nehru did to Kashmir

Look what he did to INA and to Subash chandra bose

Did you know 'Colgate', 'Hindustan lever', 'Enfield', 'Suzuki' were all foreign companies protected by Nehu mama's dynasty

the problem is with brain washing ..... check out 10th CBSE history books. There are 10 pics of Nehru and 2 pics of Gandhi .... that too along with Nehru.

As long as there are people like you who are sentimental and refuse to think logically, India will be poor and week.

  • s o whut

  • You should consider changing the title to "Science in the Future of India" as suggested by Prof. Rao in the introductory lines of the talk.

  • inspiring speech
