  • a hobby my fucking god please fucking die

  • i want to kill you so bad it cant be expressed

  • your and idiot and you dont deserve that comandroe sivty our

  • still works? lucky man

  • Nice video... brings back tons of memories....

  • The power brick does get HOT after several hours...

  • Nice set-up, really neat.

Regarding the surge suppressor: one thing that makes me worried about turning on my vintage Commodore computers (Vic 20, C-16 and C-116, and yes, a couple of C-64s) is that there seems to be a relatively high likelihood that something inside will die at the moment of startup. Do you think that a surge suppressor would eliminate this threat?

  • @r5cpt a true surge protector is a good idea anyway.. however, your C=64, if it should fail, would probably fail due to bad worn solder joints or a tired chip. Good news is there's plenty of replacements available and I have 4 operable 64's with no issues and 2 SX-64's with no issues.. these things were built to last.

  • One thing though, how do you run a cable from the disk drive (drive 9) through the PC to the C64? Now, shouldn't you have been using a REU or Z80 plugin cart?

  • @HoneycombAgent xu1541 cable.. and program called opencbm. After that if you want to modify a disk directory a program called Dir Magic is required

  • My C64 setup is a lot messier, but it all works, and as I only played games on it, back in the day. I still have 1,000's of original games I bought for it back in the day, rather than magazines! :) (Although I have the ZZAP64 magazine collection CD with every magazine in pdf format and every tape demo!) Have to congratulate you on your setup though! :)

  • It's the '82 C64 with 2 1541 drives and above the drives is a monitor in a cabinet for the FDD units and monitor.

  • Very nice video. Loved watching it.

  • Every true C=64 owner knows the WICO bats were the best... are you dialing-up still, somewhere...... WHERE?? I have a full set up too.. complete with (2) 1541's, a 1581. I have a RAM expander and would like to set up a BBS... but with alot of VoIP, i heard modems will not work.... I can post pix if interested..

  • You defo got me thinking about making a little cab for my Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2 as that was a great idea.

  • It's a beautiful setup you got here. Congrats.

  • like like

  • did you made a switch that enable you to swap drive 9 from your laptop to your 64, or you have to manually unplug-plug? Seriously, at the beginning of the video, I though maybe this was recorded around '90.. because I didn't see anything which seem newer.. until we saw the laptop and u mention newest computer ;)

  • That is a bad ass setup, nice one. It's people like you that should be given the noble peace prize!!! I wish I had a talent for electronics and gizmos in general, but sadly I'm slightly lacking there! Anyway, nice video - thanks, Phil.

  • Sweet setup.

  • This makes me want to bust my C64 out of storage.... I'd just need to fix the disk drive.

  • i remember playing Pirates on C64 night after night day after day - 1987 I think....wonder years.

  • Nice. I wish I still had my C=64 system.

  • Awsome setup my freind.

  • Very nice setup.

  • 1:55 so you have real computer too

  • very cool setup someone should make them to sell, the case/cubby thing (with fans).

The fone is very Rockford files, cool setup.

  • I like your C= 64 set up, proper retro.

  • Nice setup but it sounds like a vacuum cleaner!

  • Nice video, I like what you have done with the C64. The Vic20 brings back very old memories! Keep up the good work!

  • I was waiting for that thing to take off. :) You need to get the MMC replay so you can load ALL your shit from a memory card instead.

  • I wonder what would happen if you tried running Windows 7 on this?

  • dude stop smoking, it sounds like you are dying when you breathe

  • @shawnio I don't smoke, dumbass.

  • @DigitalQuirk

For floppies, I mean the 3.5" high density diskettes instead of the 5.25" floppies used with the 1541.

  • @DigitalQuirk Maybe you are exausted from standing up.

  • @DigitalQuirk so you're just fat?

  • @aseglkj Wow. You think your douchebag comments make him feel good? You're a real decent human being.

  • @DigitalQuirk You still sound like you're dying.

  • @shawnio he`s just fat

  • @shawnio

Well, you know what they say about assuming? It can make an ASS out of U and ME.

Oh, and to "DigitalQuirk," you could try to find a SCSI PCMCIA card, parallel port adapter or serial port adapter and an external SCSI hard drive for the laptop (I assume your laptop predates USB).

You could load all diskette, cassette and ROM images into the hard drive and just leave it hooked up to the laptop instead of having to deal with floppies.

  • @shawnio dude stop calling me dude, dude.

  • @MagicAyrtonforever you must be confused dude, cuz dude, I was talking to digitalquirk lol

  • @shawnio i was just kidding lol

  • @MagicAyrtonforever its all good dude ;) xo

  • @shawnio i think the same of you. He is probably asmatic

  • classy.

  • Really nice setup!

  • All I want is to get my 1541 and 1541-II working. Can anyone help me pleeease?

  • Nice! But what do or can you do with the modem?

  • Nice. The C64 was my first and most favourite computer.

  • That's really smart. x

  • :-) Even that phone is very 80s.

  • Those fans are noisy man . its looks retro but it does sound like a modern pc :)

  • I do, but Youtube won't let me post those videos.

  • @DigitalQuirk You sound suspiciously like woz.

  • This guy must get a lot of sex

    /sarc

  • @aseglkj more than you probably, since you brought it up.

  • Loved the Beep of the 1200 Baud hayes Modem @ 0:42 picked up on that right away. Good Old days.

  • my monitor is on top of some old textbooks lol

  • does the monitor have audio speakers?

  • You should paint the box black and add a Commodore sticker on the side.

  • I hit my head on programming a C-64. Wrote a BBS program that would not run in memory, unless compiled.

I also came up with a bit of uncompilable code; decrypting the MS-DOS date stamp. Ran fine as BASIC, but Austrospeed coughed it up. Something about 11 open parenthesis..

  • very nice, the cabinet it looks like it belongs

  • Yeah your setup is really cool. I like it.

  • What do you use the modem for? Can you still get q-link or whatever nowadays?

  • Aaahh! good old times ;-) Mi C64 is broken :-((

  • I got the exact same laptop and wanted to use it in the same way.. but the internal disk drive died... :S I can't get anything in-out of it

  • Excelent video and excelent collection! thanks for sharing!

  • omg you'd be hella fun to hang out with .. i love old stuff..i don't know much about it but it's so fun to look at and stuff. way cool! heh i hear mega fans huh? when i turn my computer off at night, it's toooo quiet.. can't do it really... i need the humm you seem like Mcgaver cool.. hugs! my ex would dig ya - ill give him your link - hugs!

  • homosexual drivers^

  • very nice!

  • Wow everything is vintage. Takes me back

  • great work! I like it.

  • your whole house is vintage too ;)

  • Reminds me of my High School teachers console...

  • Wow, now this is -awesome-. Wonderful setup, and I congratulate you. I think I need this for mine...

  • This looks really really nice! I think I will build one as well. The idea of using CPU fans is just awesome.

  • About this video and your setup; really cool and nice system - looks like you put a lot of work and love into this project! I have more clumsy systems but they work for me anyways. I should find someone to build me one of these for the other computers I am planning to purchase in the future though, so I can actually survive with smaller tables and have more desk space! (right now I have -no- desk space or any other than computer tables..)

  • Wow, the NTSC-C64 really has different shaped screen than the PAL-C64 (unless your monitor needs adjusting). Would be neat to one day see one of these NTSC machines in real life.. I only have PAL machines myself (except for one NTSC Atari 2600 I haven't found a way to get colors and sound out of which here in a PAL country)

  • NICE man, i love the setup

  • Nice setup Really love it! :D

  • Lots of software can be downloaded from the 'net and used on the C64.

Enter this title: COMMODORE 64 DATA TRANSFER WITH C64TPC, STAR COMMANDER AND TAPSERV (MTAP / PTAP)

  • I miss my C64 i used to play pool of radiance on it and it was fun.

I threw my amiga 500 away with all the games I had for it I wish I never had done that but I did find my amiga 1000 but I have nothing for it

  • @madcatsthekill Auch, yeah classic mistake. I did exactly the s(L)ame thing. But I bought an used A500 a couple of years ago. Now im planning to copy games from a friend using Xcopy pro. (You got to ask people) I bought over 260 1.44 mb floppies for the job. My little son who is 1.5 years old really loves playing Amiga with daddy. Supercars II and North and south are his favourite games... :o)

  • I made about 15 floppy games with an x-1541 cable and Star Commander from my PC to 1541. Once you get used to the DOS Star Commander you can do one floppy every 4 mins or so! I make floppies where I don't think I am going to be able to find the original games on ebay, etc any more. As long as I have a working C64, I will NEVER play via emulation - it's just not the same!

  • These joysticks were so great! Mine took so much beating when playing "Summer games" and that type of games.

  • You have done an amazing job keeping the ambiance of the C64 while making an efficient work space..Ahhhh..I want one of these!

  • that commodore sounds like a constipated rhino!

  • nice shrine for the old breadcase :)

  • what kernal is that? :)

  • I'd rather just use the laptop with an emulator and get rid of the old equipment. That would save a lot more space.

  • that removes the retro feeling

  • blah.. BORING!

  • and you have a OWN video with it so HAH

  • Must weigth a ton :)

  • the fan would get anoying I bet

  • Very cool! I love C64's. I have the second revision of the C64 with the white case, but I love the look of the brown case more.

  • Nice setup - thanks for sharing :)

  • argh I'm still looking for an A500 =(

plays Gods, lemmings and Pinball dreams on that thing...

  • I want one too =(

  • This is a Behemoth of retro gaming.

  • This reminded me of my old c-64 setup. I had the old 1541 hard drive, the 1541-ii drive (about 1/8 the size lol) the final cartridge iii (with numerous built-in programs, a gui, and fast loader), a 4-port expansion port switch, 1200 baud modem, tv adapter, a couple of cartridge games, an aftermarket higher-watt power supply, and a huge stack of Run magazines. Brought a tear to my eye remembering. I'm a commodore fan from way back. Also owned a vic-20 and amiga 500. Video Toaster rules.

  • Wow! Excellent!

I definitely love the c64... and love also the wooden case you made!!! :D

  • Nice setup. I had a simular thing going on with a 128, a 1200 and 2000 with the systems all sharing the same monitor., but I changed it to something more like yours. I just put the monitor on top of the 2 disk drives. The only thing is, is that I like to use the 1581 because with the 1581 speed software, I can load a 64k game in 8-10 seconds. It blows away anything the 1541 can do and each disk can hold MUCH more software. Do you have Jiffydos on those machines and drives?

  • WHOA dude buy a new imac 2009 and throw all dat junk away 8D haha jk , it's awesome too know how old comps work ;3

  • Kudos! Love your setup sir, I have always preferred the Commodore machines myself. Sadly I only have a CD32 at present but plan on getting more again.

  • Cool cabinet. :) Now I'm thinking about building such a thing for my Commodore 64 by myself.

  • VERY cool. Thankyou also for letting us watch your video ;) I own 3 C64's, one of which is a C64G which was manufactured in what was West Germany. It's just the same internally as the C64C which came out around '86 as i'm sure you know, but apparently the German C64 users didn't want the new C64C modern style casing, as all the other add ons such as keyboard overlays for musicians would not fit that casing, so for the Germans they kept the traditional casing which looks cool in the creamy colour

  • Very cool system setup. Classic, clean, and commodore

  • very cool video man! keep up the great work! ;)

  • cool more more moree videos lkike this

  • Very, very nice! It's a great and wise solution!

  • Please do more damage testing on your timex watch! :)

  • wow what a neat setup!

very cool video man! keep up the great work! ;)
