I took note from actress/singer ANDREA MCARDLE,When i auditioned for "ANNIE GET YOUR GUN" we also danced to "I'M AN INDIAN TOO" which i enjoyed greatly and i am NATIVE AMERICAN part,My director for my JHS play said she directed this play and was the choreographer,if not this then "ANNIE GET YOUR GUN" the original therefore i had to impress her at my audition,and i succeeded,in elementary school i played the lead role of "DOROTHY" for play "THE WIZ" i had singing courses in grade school.
I enjoyed this play as a child,and in my eyes no other ANNIE could blow like ANDREA MCARDLE,especially singing "TOMORROW" she wud make your hair stand on top of your head and give you goosebumps,i didnt get that from others,I did enjoy the movie version,in JHS i was in play "ANNIE GET YOUR GUN" i was a singer/dancer i remember song lyrics "FOLKS ARE DUMB WHERE I COME FROM<THEY AIN'T HAD ANY LEARNING,STILL THEY HAPPY AS CAN BE,DOIN WHAT COMES NATURALLY,And we did a cute farmer's girl dance.

one word... TALENT! Such talent oozing from all of these performers, but especially Louden and the others in the Easy Street sequence. There is nothing like this anymore and never will be again. I'm so glad this gem is on Youtube.

Despite a strong supporting cast, the movie failed to do justice to the original performance. Nobody could replace McArdle in the title role, mainly because it was tailored to her talents. The "original" actress became her understudy. McArdle's original performance of the opening song "Maybe" still brings tears to my eyes, though her performance of the song as an adult fails to evoke the same emotional response. (She's too trained as an adult)

I'm constantly struck by Andrea's astonishing calmness as she begins to talk then sing. She's appears so relaxed it's as if she's watching TV on a sofa. rather than singing solo in front of thousands and then millions of people. Amazing confidence and talent.
@kitesandstuff i agree with you tottaly, but Kristen Vigard was before her, she did the first two shows then got fired and Andrea replaced her because kristen was too sweet and cound not play such a tough role.

Born on a Leepyear annie raged from 1928 to 1934 in the comic strips. And originaly like how the 1989 Annie (the most acurate portryal of annie in both looks and sound) Annie has a red Curly mop hairstlye and Orpanages were packed during the thirtys not just haveing 7 or 8 kids.

If your niece likes this kind of music, she might also enjoy clips of musicals from the big studios in the 30s and 40s, there are tons of clips on YouTube from movies w/ great songs like: "Meet Me in St. Louis", "The Harvey Girls", "Easter Parade", "Singing in the Rain", "Funny Girl", and if she likes "Annie" she's bound to love "Oliver" (basically the same story). All these old musicals have beautiful scores, great voices, & they're pretty much all kid friendly.

looks like Sandy was giving Andrea a little bit of trouble, walking behind her and tugging on the leash, sometimes hard. But of course, trooper that she is, Andrea tried not to let wandering Sandy cause her to miss a beat. This is actually not an easy thing to do with kids and animals and just shows that Andrea was very professional and capable on that stage with lots of guidance by Bill Burloni who trained Sandy.
i saw this original production on broadway...seems like a million years ago now....but what a GREAT cast and one of the last of the real classic old fashioned broadway shows....full orchestra in the pit (!!!) and all
Andrea McArdle, Dorothy Loudon, Reid Shelton, Robert Fitch, Barbara Ervin, and those orphan kids on one stage is like a luminescent bulb of star power. They are all incredible. No wonder this show was such a huge success.
surely you realize that Annie is a fictional character and looked different throughout various iterations of the comic strip, and with her curly red wig Andrea looked as much like an Annie as anyone.
Well, yeah, but she only played the role for about a week until Andrea took over the role at Goodspeed. So most people (myself included) consider Andrea to be the "first" Annie.
Awesome! I was born in '76 and in elementary school, I checked out the book a milli times,lol. Saw the movie about 2 milli times! I watched the movie again and I saw a really nice school production of it, this past wkend! My friends kids were in it. My 1st ever fav book and movie ;-)

As much as I love Carol Burnett and thought that she did great work in the movie version, Dorothy Loudon was, in a word, OUTSTANDING and will forever own the role of Ms. Hannigan. She was an amazing talent!
The funny thing was Dorothy ,(Miss Hannigan) realy couldn't stand the kids in the production company ! She used to complain about them running around back stage all the time !!!
I read that she did get along with Andrea though, and that they remained friends even as Andrea grew up. Andrea really looked up to her and admired her and has said as an adult that working with Dorothy was one of the highlights of her long career.
Andrea McArdle was very close to being the youngest tony award winner for best performance by a leading actress (although she does have the record to be the youngest nominee). However Dorothy Loudon, equally and rightfully so, earned the Tony.

But of course, trooper that she is, Andrea tried not to let wandering Sandy cause her to miss a beat. This is actually not an easy thing to do with kids and animals and just shows that Andrea was very professional and capable on that stage with lots of guidance by Bill Burloni who trained Sandy.

Andrea McArdle, Dorothy Loudon, Reid Shelton, Robert Fitch, Barbara Ervin, and those orphan kids on one stage is like a luminescent bulb of star power. They are all incredible. No wonder this show was such a huge success.

surely you realize that Annie is a fictional character and looked different throughout various iterations of the comic strip, and with her curly red wig Andrea looked as much like an Annie as anyone.

Well, yeah, but she only played the role for about a week until Andrea took over the role at Goodspeed. So most people (myself included) consider Andrea to be the "first" Annie.

Awesome! I was born in '76 and in elementary school, I checked out the book a milli times,lol. Saw the movie about 2 milli times! I watched the movie again and I saw a really nice school production of it, this past wkend! My friends kids were in it. My 1st ever fav book and movie ;-)

on e of the greatest musicals ever, i wander if theyll ever release this on dvd, thi s is the best version done on stage , noone can do annie like andrea mcardle i remembe ri was in first grade, in 1979 , and my teacher had thi s album, and had posters al l over of the musical , and we did it in a variety show , i played an orphan, they mixed boys and girls too play orphans , becaus e not many girls in my cla

As much as I love Carol Burnett and thought that she did great work in the movie version, Dorothy Loudon was, in a word, OUTSTANDING and will forever own the role of Ms. Hannigan. She was an amazing talent!

The funny thing was Dorothy ,(Miss Hannigan) realy couldn't stand the kids in the production company ! She used to complain about them running around back stage all the time !!!

I read that she did get along with Andrea though, and that they remained friends even as Andrea grew up. Andrea really looked up to her and admired her and has said as an adult that working with Dorothy was one of the highlights of her long career.

Andrea McArdle was very close to being the youngest tony award winner for best performance by a leading actress (although she does have the record to be the youngest nominee). However Dorothy Loudon, equally and rightfully so, earned the Tony.
