First of all is not computer memory is computer storage, memory refers to random access memory and yes you are right it does rewrite the sectors.

@oohdirkadirka Yeah your going to need to reload the computer with your OS Disk that should of came with the computer when you got it. If you cant find them or if you didnt get them your going to need to purchase it online or maybe call the manufacture for example HP and see if they can send you a cd for free. Worst they can say is no.

@zF4STz They will charge for shipping and the cost of the cd. Expect to pay around 10 to 20 bucks. But that is much better than paying over 200 bucks for a new OS

@Stevinuk As long as you can boot to that hdd you can. But you can also boot into windows and just copy everying in your external hard drive and delete it.

I burnt the ISO and all to a cd,change the boot order, and it just takes me to the Boot menu in a smaller screen.that's it .. any advice ?

If you do this it will completely wipe your hard drive. If you really want to do it e.g. like me as i have failed repeatedly to dual boot things and they all come up when i restart my computer, then you should watch some vids on youtube of how to get a free windows 7 or vista or xp. Ifyou bought your computer it should come with a disc. It will reinstall your operating system. I reccomend backing up all of your files before doing this.

it deletes almost everything on the computer then you get windows xp installtion disk and put that in to your drive and reinstall it and it should have the basics then you can install all the other thigns over internet or buy the office stuff
